I think sugar cookies are the worst. This is certainly no place for sugar cookies.

ELO? Great band. Jeff Lynne wrote some interesting music and made it more interesting to listen to. He is a unique talent.
My favorite albums are "Eldorado" and "Out Of The Blue."

>you talk mighty big with that post number hangin off your hip. spoze you can't see where a guy could get ignored to death, huh? maybe cuz its youse doin the ignorin. ignoring somebody en masse is a death sentence around here. like I said its nothing new to set up cliques on boards. but, uh, how do you get rid of the clique once you got one? and you got one.
I imagine you are talking to me as you haven't seemed to figure out the reply button yet but that's ok.
My posts numbers or how long I have been here have nothing to do with how I treat someone. People don't get ignored because they are new. I was new once and if that had been the case I imagine we wouldn't be having this discussion. People get ignored when they don't post things that others are interested in. That doesn't mean it doesn't have any value (somewhere) but being a movie board it can be a more narrow list of topics.
If we have a clique anybody can get in with some topical, interesting discussion. I don't think I talk "big." I try to talk in an intelligent and tactful manner. I don't pick fights. I don't throw around slang (or whatever you call it) trying to be oh so cool. I'm just me.
Find a thread you like join in the discussion (movie related would be good) and you will see some join in. Maybe I will too. Just some friendly advice.

Ben, along with Harry Carey, Jr., are the stars of "Wagon Master" so it is hard to compare. They are quite good though and seem to be enjoying themselves. Dru is fine.
My favorite line from SWAYR is Wayne's - "Picnicing, Mr. Pinell?"

>Everybody likes the Carpenters, but not everyone will admit it.
Karen had a voice of silk and Richard a gift for arrangement. Unfortunately, the material became weak after some time. When it was good it was very good.
One of my favorite songs was "A Song For You."

The post numbers can be useful in determining how knowledgeable someone might be, but not always. Whether the posts numbers are there or not won't make any difference on how someone will treat you. They can tell as much about someone who has too few as well as too many.
Why worry about it? To have 13 posts and less than a week here to start making demands suggests maybe a little research is in order.

But dear God in heaven, it is a group that should just SHUT DOWN MEMBERSHIP NOW to anyone befor 2006.
I don't get it. You and several others join, seem to be warmly greeted by members, maybe get hassled a little by a small number of people who see it as their job to do it and because this and because not everyone fits your world you get upset about it.
As someone who has been here since 2005 I hardly feel I need to give up my membership here because a few people hurt your feelings. We are not all lemmings. Some people here are as smart as you are likely to find about movies. (Some not so much so.) All the same a little courtesy will earn you some.
It is not our place to decide who comes and goes (as you apparently would like that job) but everyone has a responsibility to be respectful and even when you disagree do it in an adult and civil manner. Name calling is for another place.
No robots here. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them a sycophant, kool-aid drinker or lapdog.

>suddenly made me think - why aren't their several channels incorporating classics into their schedules. There's so much energy expended on questioning why TCM does or doesn't seem to be adding more recent fare, but shouldn't we instead be putting the squeeze on other channels to incorporate more classics into their offerings?
That would be great except they are probably making too much money doing the way they are now.

For others:
I counted only 5 films made after 1980 for April. That should make you feel better.

I've only ever seen the Fry/Laurie set. I really enjoyed them. They did bog down a bit when it came to America but on the whole it was a lot of fun.
They were very detailed about about the time period and then let it get away from them in the New York scenes in the establishing shots. Uncharacteristically sloppy.

Are you new to TCM?
Another go round the "31 Days" chat.
-
I hope this is a one time deal.

Frank:
Thanks for the video. It's still a cool song.
I was listening to "So" this week. I think "Red Rain" is the best song on the album. "Big Time" is fun as well. It's the only Gabriel album I have though.

hope you'll be jumping in August. Just keep an eye open for 'movieman1957' who will likely be jumping too.
Well, if they are we meet at my house. (I must invite Judith.) I'm sending my family away for the day and checking my supply of tapes and DVD's. I'll supply the M & Ms. An "Essential" and a day. It hasn't been this good since Buster had his day last August.

I was introduced to the Monkees in the mid-80s thanks to MTV. I used to watch the
show and I ended up liking their music. I'm very poppy when it comes to music...
except rap, although rap is now much more poppy than it was when I was very
into it. The Monkees are my second favorite group from the 60s.
As someone who was the right age when they came on TV I still have a fondness for The Monkees. Still have all the original albums (vinyl.) I enjoyed Nesmith's tunes but my favorite was "Pleasant Valley Sunday." Up until about five years ago I could hit those high notes in the background at the end near the fade-out.
Never did enjoy the Beach Boys. I was too busy listening to The Beatles.

There is now another page that, as you correctly stated, may be lost. One funny thing is they archived "Paper Moon" that had nine posts and then set up a new thread in the current list. Go figure.

I saw him in a "Have Gun-WIll Travel" from '57. He looked ok but he never did anything strenuous. The odd thing was he never took off his hat. I think it was his last appearance. Nicely directed by his son.
-
Recently watched the whole series of "Jeeves and Wooster." It was a great deal of fun. I'm getting "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" to run through now. A variety type of show. You better have a taste for British humor or it won't be much fun.
In keeping with our music thread Hugh Laurie does play the piano somtimes.
-
I saw him on "Law and Order: SVU" last night. He was good. I remember how everyone praised him when he did "The King of Comedy." My favorite is "The Bellboy." Some of his movie stuff with Dean I find him a little overbearing in a Jim Carrey kind of way. I do like him more in the old TV shows I've seen.

The title is "The Mating Season" and so far I only see what you have listed. Here's a link -
-
35,000,000 titles. (That's a hard total to believe.) Must be a typo. Even if it's not TCM doesn't own anything.
-
I caught the end last night just where you mentioned. You're right. Watching McLaglen look around to see who is watching looks embarassed enough. I guess I was paying more attention to him trying to "tough" his way out of the situation. That may help explain the cheap shot he takes at Duke coming down the hill.
-
They used to do it in March. They changed so it would precede the Oscar ceremony.

Donna:
You are such a tease. You put "Easy Living", "The Music Box" and "A Tale of Two Kitties" all in the same week. You make me want to vote for your schedule before they are all in.
I'd like to know what is going on that three of us picked the same week.
Another fabulous job.

"Love Affair" and "An Affair To Remember" were on opposite each other this morning. Timing is everything.
