  1. I enjoy your lists. I would have a hard time making one in that fine an order. One thing we can certainly agree on is that Joan Crawford isn't on my list either. Though Jean Arthur would be fairly high on mine. I give you credit for being so organized on these lists.
  2. Thanks. I don't think you over-analyze as much as you have more to say. Ladies: I spent the evening with John Payne and "99 River Street." My first thought was I liked Evelyn's hair more than I did her. I thought she was too much too often. Once again, for me, Payne was really good. Tough but still likable he carries the film. He is older and looks a little weathered while still being in good enough shape to carry off the boxer character though he may a be a bit old. A bit of a convoluted plot is set in a pretty seedy part of town with an equally seedy group of people. Payne gets sucked into this and fights, literally and figuratively, out a predicament. One thing that struck me is how sexual parts of the film are. We get a couple of cheesecake shots of Peggy Castle fixing her stockings and getting something off of a shelf. There are also several times when for her and Evelyn there are shots where there chest is prominent in the foreground of the shot with Payne as someone else is the focal point of the shot. Later when Evelyn goes to the bar in Jersey I'd like to think that just because a woman hiked her skirt a little, pulls back her coat and sticks out her chest that some guy wouldn't just lose all reason. Luckily "Rollins," after some more blatant flirtation he refuses more than once. Pretty good drama. I still like "KC Confidential" better but this one has its moments. Some of the plot points were a little hard to connect. More proof that they can make a perfectly fine film in less than 90 minutes.
  3. You already are supportive. You talk to me.
  4. I'm a Libra but it sounds like I could "minor" in Virgo.
  5. I am not all that familiar with Gray but if we are referring to the pictures that were posted at SSO of the two stars I don't find the hair all that startling. A tad unusual but it didn't make me go "Hey, look at that hair!" Most 60s hairstyles did. I am the exception, generally, in that I like short hair on ladies.
  6. I only watched "Kansas City Confidential" and really liked it. I had not seen Payne in a noir before but thought he was quite good. Handled himself well and was properly mysterious at times. You had to pay attention and I think it could have played a couple of ways right up to the end. A nice new film for me.
  7. I will say at least this much, when TCM has had problems before they have attempted to rebroadcast films once they have been able to obtain a proper copy of the film. Can they always? No. As for the rest of it....
  8. Burn down the house trying to make a fire. (No I have not done that.) For some people, me, some things do not come easy. What is easy for others is a complicated task where disaster awaits my next step. Things that others can do in their sleep and blindfolded are can be an event of unspeakable frustration only to have it come out as if a three year old completed it. I hardly try anymore. Our boys often suffer from the same affliction. Their heart and their intentions are in the right place. After that it is all downhill. The more they try to make it right the worse it gets until their frustration has passed its limit. Then is when it really gets crazy. Somewhere in their lives we see ourselves. But we are never quite as ineffective as they are. In the end though, who wouldn't want a friend that loyal and close.
  9. I don't think anything will change after a third time. It is the same way with vegetables. On the other hand our Miss Favell did have a revelation about "The Searchers" after several more times. Maybe there is hope. (For Ryan, not the vegetables.)
  10. Wow, if you find Ryan annoying here there must be something amiss. Scary is a different matter.
  11. Well, I thought of you when I saw it. I also wanted to add it to my collection of those tributes but after the sixth or seventh time I was getting less excited about it. (It is a good one though.) One film that did intrigue me was the one with him and Ida Lupino where he threatens her. He is kind of creepy there. I'll have to watch it one more time to get the title of the film. However, the last thing I want here is for anyone to be mad at me and certainly not you. Also, if I don't see the trailer for "A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court" again anytime soon it is fine with me.
  12. Two things. I got an Emergency Broadcast System test near the end of a short. One minute later and I would have missed it. Argghhhhh! At least I don't have to watch the Robert Ryan tribute with Ernest Borgnine again. It must have run after every other film.
  13. I didn't check yesterday but that happened to a recording I did when they had their day on "Summer Under The Stars." It was a constant buzzing and I couldn't hear any dialog. I'll check yesterday's and see if it is the same.
  14. As you both suggested I sent him a note. The man must be busy beyond reason but I hope that somebody gets it and can show the film again. Tomorrow life takes over again.
  15. It was a nice day to be in front of the TV. Then to top it off, and because that is where the TV was left, I caught my bride watching the Ranier interview. She liked her. Thanks for the suggestions.
  16. Yes. About half the film was left off. It might have been a print that was used for TV and a break for a spot might have made someone think it was over. (Someone shared that thought in another thread.) I'm sure TCM will broadcast is again. I'd let someone know except I don't know where to tell them.
  17. Stan had a word of wisdom. "You can lead a horse to water but a pencil has to be lead." Sorry you're having a lousy day. Mine is going quite well so far.
  18. Fred, that was "Them Thar Hills." Something just happened to "Below Zero." It was cut short.
  19. Okay. I'm bummed. I'm watching "Below Zero" and they cut it short. I don't know what happened but it is not all there.
  20. I'm a idiot. I went over my list twice and somehow I missed that I didn't have "Thicker Than Water." I had practice last night but that is no excuse. I happened to be up a 4:30 this morning (my bride left for work) so I watched "The Music Box" in your honor.
  21. Hi Christina: It has been shown occasionally in the past so keep an eye out.
  22. How sweet. Thank you. Maybe I'll have to join one of their "tents." I've thought about it now and then but never went anywhere with it. "The Music Box" is Roach. It is one of my favorites as well. I hope you enjoy some as well.
  23. >Since I'm on the newer side of watching classic film, I've attempted to broaden my horizons. I've bought many DVDs that are nothing but new experiences for me. The vast majority of DVDs that I buy, I have never seen the movie before. It is amazing to think that you are on the "newer" side. I've learned plenty from you. It makes me think for a lot of years I wasn't paying very close attention. Buying DVDs I've never seen is out of my comfort zone. I always wonder how much I like it and how many times am I likely to watch it before I am comfortable enough to plunk down $10 or $20.' I also like reading some of the rambles before I watch something. I don't want to read too much lest it give me a preconceived notion of things but I like to get a sense of what everyone likes and a few things to look for.
  24. The premieres are mostly grouped together Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon. Here is a list but for the time in your area you should go to the TCM schedule on the site. Thicker Than Water Going Bye-Bye Oliver The Eighth Dirty Work Busy Bodies The Midnight Patrol Twice Two Below Zero The Hoose Gow They Go Boom Perfect Day Men 'O War Berth Marks Unaccustomed As We Are Come Clean Any Old Port
  25. 47 Ford films. Amazing. And I get the sense you are not all that fond of him. I don't have near as many as either of you. Part of me thinks I'll never be able to watch them and another part thinks that at 40 cents a disc I ought to record everything. I think I did figure, based on another of your lists, that about 25% of my films are westerns.
