  1. I'm with Sir Francis. It is hard to choose. Many moods bring many good songs. Do they have to be hits?
  2. I would think any picture should be on a separate post from your schedule and notes. If you want to copy part of your notes to another post with the picture that would be best so that I don't bring it over to the voting thread. Glad it is going well.
  3. My thought would be that as it would have aired prior to your date than count it as previously screened. I don't recall that having come up before so I'd count it this way.
  4. I really like the shot of Carey coming into the cabin with the light behind him. It feels like he is coming back to a place in himself that is also dark. With each subsequent shot more comes to him as well as us. So much is revealed in that scene and yet nothing is said to explain it. More rambling to come for all of us I hope.
  5. I am all those things. (I've missed you.)
  6. I had it ready so I put it up. I proof read it until I couldn't read anymore. There is probably something wrong so I'll check in later if anyone catches anything. That way I can fix it tonight.
  7. One of my favorite McCartney songs. "Tug Of War." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIfPIfuTFXA and "Dear Boy."
  8. Welcome to the 16th Programming Challenge. Surprisingly as I won the last Challenge so I get to be your humble and obedient servant for this challenge. This challenge will run one month from May 6, 2010 to June 10, 2010 All schedules must be posted by midnight June 10 PST. (A little time is built in so you can enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.) This is a fun event that was started by fellow member path40a as a way to challenge people to program a week's schedule as if they were the holder of this most important job. The only prize will be that the winner of this challenge will host the next one. This contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or coordinated by the good people at TCM. Everyone registered by today?s date is encouraged to join in. *Programming Requirements* 1. Select any week for the upcoming 12 months. Your week starts at 6am ET on Sunday and ends on Saturday at 5:59am ET. (Going into the following Sunday.) 2. Any other day usually begins at 6am ET but can start later if needed. 3. One night of at least four films must be devoted to a Star Of The Month. Be sure the person you select would have enough movies to schedule over a four week period. 4. This challenge's Spotlight will be *?On The Town.?* Schedule some films that show off some city, town, village or community. The location can be an integral part of the plot or important in its setting. All locations and time frames are fine to use. 5. All other evenings are themes of your choosing. Daytime themes are encouraged. Feel free to mark birthdays, anniversaries and historical events, etc. for any portion of the day. 6. Feature films start on the top, quarter, bottom, three-quarters of the hour. 7. Primetime features start at 8pm ET. Please allow enough time on your evening schedule to allow for intros and outtros for each film. 8. You are not required to but feel free to include short films, featurettes, trailers, etc. in your schedule. You should hope to not leave more than 15 minutes between each film without scheduling some short film. 9. Please program the regular TCM features in your schedule. "Silent Sunday Nights" begin around midnight Sunday and is followed by "TCM Imports." "TCM Underground" starts about 2am ET on Friday evening. Those start times can be flexible. Saturday's "The Essentials" must start at 8pm. ET. These films are not counted against your premieres. Please include some notes on your schedule. We are interested to know why you picked a selection and your inspirations. *Premieres* This challenge will allow for 15 premieres. A premiere is classified as any movie not available through the core libraries and has not been shown on TCM. Movies for "Silent Sunday Nights", "Underground" and "Imports" are not counted against the 15. Public Domain films are not counted against the total premieres. As in the last challenge - The core film libraries for use in this Challenge are - Warner Bros (pre 1948):?http://www.imdb.com/company/co0026840/ MGM (pre-1986):?http://www.imdb.com/company/co0020206/ RKO (all):?http://www.imdb.com/company/co0041421/ Other libraries can be found at: Samuel Goldwyn (all):?http://www.imdb.com/company/co0016710/ Public Domain list -?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Public_domain_films Columbia Pictures (all)?http://www.imdb.com/company/co0071509/ United Artists (after 1950):?http://www.imdb.com/company/co0026841/ 20th Century Fox: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0000756/ Paramount Pictures: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0023400/ Universal Pictures: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0005073/ And, as always, you are free to program any film that has already been presented on TCM regardless of library affiliation and should be designated with a "p/s" symbol (designating "previously scheduled"). And you can find running times for your film selections by using IMDB.com or TCMDB.com to research your titles. The TCM database usually indicates a film has been shown on TCM by virtue of having an accompanying article. The world ?article? will show in bold. *Formatting* Format your listing by showing the time it airs, name of the film, year it was produced, star or person of interest, studio, running time, premiere or previously scheduled. It is best not to use any emoticons as it may well mess up your posting. It might be wise to consider typing it outside this forum and then paste it in. *LINKS TO PREVIOUS CHALLENGES:* Here are links to previous Challenges and schedules: Challenge #15 http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=150344&tstart=450 Challenge #14 http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=148117&tstart=0 Challenge #13 http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=142511&tstart=0 Challenge #12?http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=139071&start=150&tstart=0 Challenge #11?http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?messageID=8155190 Challenge #10 (?http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=127551&start=30&tstart=495&messageID=8088572#8088572?) Good luck and most of all ? have fun. Any questions just chime in and I or any of the other participants will be happy to answer. Let us begin.
  9. "War of The Wildcats" is a typical okay JW western. Everyone is fighting over oil and, if I recall, Martha Scott. There is one pretty good fight scene with Wayne and Dekker. Like I said it's okay but don't go rearranging your schedule to see it. There is probably a few Wayne films you won't know from the early 40's. Some of the more obscure titles run like "Lady From Louisiana" and "Lady For A Night." Also "Flame of The Barbary Coast" and "In Old California" are pretty rare as well.
  10. It will go into June just for the reason you mention.
  11. It's not a silly suggestion at all. We have seen the movie and enjoyed the scene you refer to. Thanks.
  12. I attended the Baltimore Symphony's performance of Rachmaninoff''s 2nd Symphony. An exciting performance that was preceded by a short explanation of the work by the conductor, Marin Alsop. I was explaining to my bride on the way to the show that Eric Carmen pinched a primary melody from the work for his hit "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again" only to have it mentioned and a bit of Carmen's song for comparison purposes. It is always nice to hear it live as there are subtle things that may go unnoticed on a CD. A fun evening.
  13. The Divine MissG: My history with "Marnie" is ambivalent. There are parts I find interesting but some seems over the top. That may be more Miss Hedren than "Marnie." One minute shes normal the next she is not. I have mixed emotions on the marriage. Part of me wonders why Connery would be so adamant about chasing a woman who, often, seems so determined to be separated from him. The ending is interesting and makes sense but I am not sure if the degree of her situation is solely do to her childhood. How is that for a superficial answer? I certainly need to watch it again if I am going to sound half way interesting. The Divine Miss CM: I am flattered that you have such an interest in including me. My primary interest in Hitchcock, for better or worse, fades after "Psycho." I have seen them all but they don't hold a lot of interest for me. I don't think I have seen "The Family Plot" since I saw it in the theater.
  14. I should have it up by the Friday or so. Check back.
  15. I am not counting the picture pages but I am so far behind that even at this I am doing nothing more than interrupting. It has been a good read though.
  16. There must be plenty to talk about. I have a book called "Hitchcock's Films" by Robin Wood. To follow up your comments he spent 27 pages on "The Birds" and 30 pages on "Marnie." So you all be thorough.
  17. I do. She is a very unique beauty. From "Twentieth Century" to "Hands Across The Table" to "To Be or Not To Be" it was fun to find that she was more "My Man Godfrey," good as it is. "In Name Only" was an early exposure to her when really looking for Cary Grant. There is a down-to-earth quality to her. She can be a lady without being so stuffy or proper about it. I haven't seen nearly enough of her early work. I would like to see when she became Carole Lombard. It seems for many it takes a few to find their screen self. She has a surprisingly big catalog.
  18. I think "Bolero" was the first Raft picture I saw and it was years ago. I knew of his reputation but was surprised to find him in this. At the time I had no idea who Lombard was.
  19. Sorry. We were looking for something to watch on Netflix and my bride just picked "Wire In The Blood" out of the blue. It's really good. Never heard of it. Don't know anyone in it. We've been through the three of the first season and have the second season lined up. I hope you will tell me what you think of it.
  20. I've never seen it but the title is a turn off by itself. I guess I'll have to put it on my Neflix queue. I never even bothered to see if it was Leone.
  21. Overstay? Heavens no. This is to talk about music. Go for it.
  22. Ms. Trevor is the leading lady.
  23. Glenn Ford in a plaid shirt and striped pants. My goodness, what were they thinking? "Texas" from about 1941 has a young Ford and an equally young William Holden. You ladies should check that one and you will have your "Cuteness Quotient" satisfied for awhile.
