  1. see anything on the net thesedays & even official books-(especially NATALIE'S by SusanFinsted) & then Robert Downey, Jr. on stage really kicked the dirt up about that horrific incident & can you believe he later bought a house on her exact rd (603 Canon, drive inB. Hills) as if stalking here! ^& in recent years even more has come to ight about this man, regarding a 1949 strangling by hands murder of B-movie actress JEAN SPANGLER at THE GRIFFITH PARK ZOO She can briefly be glimpsed in a couple early pix of his. & 3was even reported to be pregnant at the time of her never solved murder. Police brought him in for questioning, but the DA let him go. Case was never solved & again, basically only ultimate conspiracy I;ve always believed in was of course Nov. 22nd, 1963 in Dallas & JFK. I detest gossip, onlyth4ere is jus to much evidence no matter how old it is-(ALSO JUST UNCH HER NAME IN VIRTUALLY ANYWARE ONTHE INTERNET, NOWHERE NEAR AS FAMOUS AS IN 1954 & NATASHA"s TGHOUGH> YOU CAN'T SEARCHFOR HER NAME & IN VALID BOOKS NOWADAYS TOO, UNLESS THIS POPS UP. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO KARMA BY THE WAY??? & I used to like him as an actor too IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME & I LOATH IDLE GOSSIPP, CHECK ANYTHING OUT & DO YOUR OWN THINKIN'
  2. & TIME'S UP PLEASE HOLLYWOOD ON ROBIN HOOD???
  3. & at this still premature aspect of our, well mine, fasv. game THE OSCASRS, about 98% of my fellow pundits have it a lock for a BP nom & maybe even Spike lee for BD-(I don't agree with the latter though myself, he carries too much baggage to be among the cliquish BD contenders. Though he way win & WALK DOWN-THE-AISLE for it's screenplay this time out?
  4. Bogie56, do you already see recently past *Oscar victor Ali defeating the likes of last yrs loser Timothy Chalamet though?
  5. THANX, I have had this one o MY MUST SEE LIST! Since about 3 months ago when I knew they were making it!!! I just truly hope it gets a nation wide release date in January & not straight to cable or something???-(ANY NEW NEWS ON THAT?) & DUMBO by Tim Burton in March is a runner-up. Plus, *Scorsese, *De Niro & after an 11yr hiatus *Pesci is back in the $135m THE IRISHMAN & as you know this may be the duo's all-time greatest bit "ON THETRAIL OF THE LONESOME PINE" from 1937's WONDROUS "WAY OUT WEST" Most buffs of L & H of their features choose SONS OF THE DESERT (l933)-(TRIVIA: For decades the worlds largest fan-club too!0 NOT ME, I LOVE THIS ONE MOST. & some highly slick TCM-ITE once posted a couple months ago that 1932 *Oscar winning-(Best Comedy Short) THE MUSIC BOX was the most perfect movie ever made! I can';t disagree myself CHECK OUT ON YIYTUBE BOTH ARE ON A 1954 TEECAST OF "YOU BET YOUR LIFE")
  6. (PART 1) (*-always indicates an ACADEY AWARD winner) Now, to start with virtually al true film buffs, etc are full aware to viscous sport of Professional Boxing-(still my fav. NFL is a runner-up) has by far been covered more than any other sports in cinema history. a lot has to Eddie Muller's fav. genre as film 'noir to begin with. & during HOLLYWOODS GLORIOUS GOLDEN AGE & STUDIO-SYSTEM-(l925-63) Life imitated art, with the gangsters that of course surrounded the sport After all his pop was a true boxing writer too!) So below I plan to list as ,many boxing motion pictures as possible-(some lifted from my books) & others off the top of my head. (SO I CERTAINLY HOPE YOU FELLOW-TCM-TES JOIN-IN WITH SOME I MAY HAVE MISSED, OR YOUR OWN TOP TEN???) (NOTE: & will of course compare some rue boxing fax)>(JUST HOPE I DON;T GET CUT OFF ONCE AGAIN & HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THOUSANDS OF P)REVIOUS POSTS RECENTL "DELETED" & ALTERED MY HANDLE FROM (Spencer) to just (SHANNON)?? Welp, they did it to me BIG-TIME & NO FAIR SPORTS FANS 1st of all my personal top ten all-time fav. boxing films> 1st RAGING BULL (l980)-($13m.) was voted the #4th all-time greatest film in AFI's "10th Anniversary Edition" for 2007!) 2. *MILLION DOLLAR BABY (2004)=($100m.)-(like *Clint's Frankie Dunne this superb yet staggering depression pic. I;m not a fan of girls boxing, this sold it on me)-(won him 2 more ACADEMYAWARDS) 3. CINDERELLA MAN (2005) ($65m.) (I dont' care what most critics said, I rate this thee best film with all involved! & only snagged a ridiculous 3 nods? sheer perfect filmmaking at every level) 4. *ROCKY (l976) ($117m.) (Is there any living person that doesn't yet know about "THE ROCK" here?) (though considered a huge OSCAR upset over both All the President's Men & more-over Network) 5th THE SET-UP (1949 RKO Radio) (The Real Deal of Tank town fighters & brilliantly constructed by *R. Wise & especially Robert Ryan once again!) 6th BODY AND SOUL (l947-UA) (John Garfield looked the pt here & got his 2nd & last OSCAR shot for it as well. He truly was made for Oddetts 1939 Golden Boy over *Holden=-(I like *Bill a lot, but Garfield played it on the stage, where is *Wiliam was barely 21 in it?) 7th THE HARDER THEY FALL (l956) (all know this was the legendary *Bogie's grand finale here, *Steiger yrs later said he kept leaving for tests, but never complained. All in all a very strong picture (***1/2) 8th REQUEIM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHTS (l962) (Now I once back in mid '80's accidentally caught Rod Serling first version on tv, a tv kinescope with *J. Palance, Ed & Keenan Wynn. it';s terrific & had a happy ending this time out. This has the edge as most know anyhow & all also know of *Quinn's superb characterization here, but both "The Great 0ne: Jackie Gleason & Mickey Rooney also had strong roles. especially Jackie!)) 9th CHAMPION (l949-UA) (I hate to say it, but one must give the devil his due in regard to K. Douglas here!? He & Arthur Kennedy scored acting shots & like many boxing flix it won Film editing) 10th THE CHAMP (l932-M-G-M) (*Wally Beery took home his only ACADEMY AWARD for this classic but some true to fax trivia: under the AMPAS rules of the Day, Best actor winners were officially a tie & *F. March in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" was one vote ahead of *Beery, but it was considered an actual TIE? (READ UP ON IT, ESPECIALLY IN MY A #1 OVERALL OSCAR BIBLE BY Mr. OSBORNE "85yrs of the OSCAR") & 11th FAT CITY (l972) (*John Huston did this one & again, very sad stuff!) & Like fellow TCM-ITE below me & sole moviebuff that has even replied to date? I also must include THE QUIET MAN (l952-Republic) Though it only briefly has 1 scene in the boxing ring, many books have been written & somewhat dirty in regard to Maureen 0'Hara-(always the perfect on-screen mate for *JW about it-(longer story, not fit for here though) It did contain one of HOLLYWOODS overall & longest fight scenes between him & then 66yr old & true fmr boxer *V. McLaglen. Of whom truly fought for the world heavyweight championship vs then champ: Jack Johnson-(l878-l946) Johnson won though & was much smaller at about 6'0 & 190lbs But, *Victor, then approx 6'3 & 1/2 & 225lbs was musclebound, like others including Primo Carnera, etc of whom in 1933 got demolished by Max Baer-(l909-59) & please fill in the pothers SPORTS-FANS???" Because I still got a million or maybe a hundred of them THANK YOU!
  7. However, one man shows have made the cut James Whitmore in 1975's Give 'Em Hell Harry for one
  8. With all due restpect though, even if he gets a lotta publicity, critics & trades for this one, the main leading actor competition right now & looking ahead will likely be CHRISTIAN BALE in Vice, BRADLEY COOPER, A Star is Born, RAMI MALEK, Bohemian Rhapsody, RYAN GOSLING, First Man & VIGGO MORTENSON in Green Book pohe, mian Rhapsody,
  9. Was in a stage production though?
  10. Although 1987 HAD NEW MOVIES I WENT TOI & LIKED MORE THEN HIS 9 TIME SWEEPING *Last Emperor ($34M.) (***1/2) I did excellent that year in forecasting what HOOLYWOOD will do on Oscar night. & predicted it would take home either 7 to 8 but not 9. (TRIVIA: It's to date among the AMPAS' only (3) to make a clean sweep 1958's *GIGI & 2003's *LOR-ROTK) (TRIVIA FUN-FAX)>-(you be the judge as to other 1987 films deserved to be either over it for BP, or in slots of the other nominees)??? *LAST EMPEROR BROADCAST NEWS ($27m.) (****-stars!) FATAL ATTRACTION ($157m.) (strong ***) HOPE AND GLORY (3 & 1/2) & WORKING GIRL ($30m.) (***) & A few other notable releases for '87> THE UNTOUCHABLES ($76m.) (4 BIG STARS & MY FAV OF THE YR) & I without question personally rank this heavyweight scoring by, yep again *Ennio Morricone's over *L. EMPEROR's FULL METAL JACKET ($46m.) (****-stars & brilliantly made at every level! ridiculously it's only nod Best script?) THE DEAD (4 STARS!) (I;m prejudiced here being IRISH, but at any rate it's absolutely marvelously crafted filmmaking at every turn & I always must include this dandy in my annual ST. PAT'S FILM FESTIVAL) IRONWEED (strong 3 & 1/2) (Without a doubt among cinema history's most depressing movies! But, both *NICHOOLSON & *STREEP are magnificent here in 1938 Albany as hobos) WALL STREET ($42m.) (strong ***) (all know this 1 of course, but most don't klnow it was *MICHAEL (Gordon Ghekko's) DOUGLAS' 2nd ACADEMY AWARD victory, winning for BEST PRODUCER-(Picture) for *ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (l975) GOT ANY OTHERS??? thanx
  11. I already see the FAVOURITE snagging about 8 or 9 AMPAS nominations overall. Matter of fact it may be among this years most nommed contenders, along with FIRST MAN & A STAR IS BORN? Despite all the asinine pc & changes within the AMPAS it still adores huge costume epics (it's trailer is also all over the net & check out ROMA'S)-(SEE BELOW ON STAN & OLLIE'S 1st) IT LOOKS UTTERLY PERFECTO!
  12. WHOOPS BUDDY, just now checke'd out (boxofficemojo) & BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is approaching $160m. do0mestically Not a film I plane to see, others more important to me first Just went to last Friday CREED II (**-out of 4 stars) what a bit of a letdown considering I thought CREED (2015) AKA: ROCKY 8 was & is terrific overall moviemaking, most of all SLY, who looks bored here too. Even the legendary music of his ROCKY FRANCHISE is missing BIG-TIME HERE? I know what, Stallone would say it's mostly not about ROCKY BALBOA, at any rate this score is lousy Not bad I remember those, just flat which I usually don't It made) will post it of approx. $86m. to date He says he will kill of the beloved ROCKY BALBOA CREEED II. I ask the question why have another one? (TRIVIA: Highest grossing in the ROCKY FRANCHISE is 1985's ROCKY IV" (**1/2) ($127m.) Next 88yr old *CLINT'S THE MULE (Dec. 14th) & hopefully the one I've most wanted to see for months STAN & OLLIE-(hopefully will finally open here in January of 2019) I've always been a huge sucker (LIKE MY FELLOW TCM-ITES) of HOLLYWOODS GOLDEN AGE/STUDIO-SYSTEM-(circa 1925-63) & DUMBO in March by Tim Burton (CECK OUT THE TRAILER TRUST ME! & OF STAN & OLLIE ) THANK YOU b
  13. JAKEEM, have you had a chance yet to check out A STAR IS BORN-remake??? I was somewhat pleasantly surprised
  14. & think I previously posted on here a couple of times-(as you know tcm.com's message boards had a massive overall & my handle is now altered-(IT WAS SPENCER) & without me saying a word!?) & my previous 4,000 posts are apparently now DELETED!? NOT FAIR FOKS Anyway, 6 time nominee without getting her chance to WALK DOWN-THE-AISLE GLENN CLOSE in THE WIFE seems a BLOW-OUT for Best Actress BP seems tight right now though??? Maybe ROMA (NOTE: This marks my 37th year at oddsmaking UNCLE OSCAR & 2018 was pretty weak in movies.)\ THANK YOU
  15. JAKEEM, i';ve said it before, but you once again outdid yourself pal!!! I just saw it on the net & weeks ago can you verify NBR is tomorrow & New York Film Critics are on Thursday??? WATCH BEST ACTOR CLOSELY EVEN THIS EARLY BETWEEEN C. BALE in VICE vs. RAMI MALEK in BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY It's ridiculoiusly but all know how these things generally work, if *BALE hadn't already won for THE FIGHTER he'd probably have a better shot, unless he is something like the incredible *D. DAY LEWIS or something
  16. And it's very easy to already predict it will take home that Best O. Song Gold
  17. & a few others too! John Barrymore was magnificent for just one in Hawks screwball comedy from 1934 TWENTIETH CENTURY! & I know many may scoff at this but both Buster Keaton, W.C. Fields were brilliant at what they did! Split BIg-TIME WITH MacDONALD THOUGH, LOATHED HER! HARLOW is yet another in LIBELED-LADY!?
  18. AGREED! Don't now if i'll also go & see this one, too many others coming up & recall Pryce in BRAZIL & GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS? Don't see him making the cut though, to crowded a field GARP is my fav of hers & *ROBIN'S too! THANK YOU
  19. & Who got the tcm Christmas book yet? I won one from AMC, back before it's overhaul in 2000 & an AMC Western poster too!
  20. THE WIFE, you can find the trailer right now it appears she will finally WALK DOWN-THe-AISLE on her 7th try
