  1. Ben is the only one I've noticed who seems to lean into those intros with a little bit of politics. Though I found it interesting, in light of Chick-fil-a's anti-gay stance, that he would host this months spotlight from the Chick-fil-a College Football Hall of Fame. Not sure where you draw the line on such things. But then again Dennis Adamovich, the HOF's CEO, is a friend of Ben's so take all of what I just wrote for what it's worth.
  2. Let's be honest, there aren't that many silent films out there. How many silent films are premiered on TCM every year? I liked Robert Osborne because he loved movies and tried to put the film in context with the people who worked on them. That was it. He didn't spend half the intro saying something absurd, unfunny, or "insult" his family members, only to give a wink and say just kidding. I enjoy learning something about the movie being shown. That sort of behavior feels belittling of my effort to tune in, and is definitely a waste of my time. (And yes, I can always skip the intros but isn't that a basic part of TCM? Learning about the film? Otherwise why have anyone intro the film in the first place?) One of the reasons I like Eddie Muller so much is that he really gives the film context to the people involved and the world they inhabited. I look forward to Noir Alley every week, just to hear Eddie's remarks, even if I've already seen the film many times. That's all I ask for in a host. If Jacqueline Stewart does that I'd be so grateful.
  3. Yes! As predicted TCM acknowledged Miss Lynley's passing before both the Intros and the Wrap-Ups.
  4. I just like saying her name... But I have to do it with a French accent that sounds like Charles Boyer! 😂
  5. I'm guessing there will be some sort of disclaimer before each showing.
  6. THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE is one of my favorite childhood films. In 1982, ten years after it came out, I had the pleasure of meeting Carol Lynley when they filmed an episode of the short-lived tv show, BAKER'S DOZEN at my university. I couldn't believe I actually got to meet someone who was in THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE. RIP Ms. Lynley, there's got to be a morning after...
  7. With a nod to Movie Collector OH - Last aired October 2005! Dangerous Partners (1945) airing on Thursday, 26th at 10:45am PST / 1:45pm EST A young couple's accident could make them rich, if they can evade a Nazi spy ring. BW- 79 mins I'll be watching this intriguing sounding film. Anything with a Nazi spy ring from the 40's has got to be at least a little bit of fun. This one has an amazing supporting cast as well. (see below) It's an MGM film which makes it a little puzzling that it's taken 14 years to air again. Should be in the library, no? James Craig ...Jeff Caighn Signe Hasso ...Carola Ballister Edmund Gwenn ...Albert Richard Kingby Audrey Totter ...Lili Roegan Mabel Paige ...Marie Drumman John Warburton ...Clyde Ballister Henry O'Neill ...Police Lt. Duffy Grant Withers ...Jonathan Drumman Felix Bressart ...Prof. Roland Budlow Warner Anderson ...Miles Kempen Stephen McNally ...Co-pilot (as Horace McNally) John Eldredge ...Farrel King Baggot ...Lunch Room Customer (uncredited) Chester Clute ...The Diner (uncredited) Edward Gargan ...Police Sgt. at Kempen's Apartment (uncredited) Harry Hayden ...The Coroner (uncredited) Teddy Infuhr ...Boy in Budlow's Waiting Room (uncredited)
  8. Always delighted to hear a film has been found! I love RKO films of the 1930's. Hope I get to see it soon! Thanks for letting us know!
  9. That was a Red Skelton not a Red Buttons. That falls under the heading of what used to be known as STAR STORIES. Now they are under "TCM Original Productions".
  10. I thought some other choices might be: Franklin Pangborn Eric Blore Allan Jenkins Margaret Hamilton Elizabeth Patterson Edward Everett Horton Aline MacMahon

  12. That was part of the story line. She basically remembers after the fact but is delighted to realize why she tied the string in the first place.
  13. Today's airing was a TCM Premiere. Hopefully it will show up again. But it's a Columbia picture so it may be a while.
  14. In context of the film, it's a moment when Virginia Bruce remembers why she tied a string around her finger. As older people might recall, tying a string around your finger was a way to remind yourself of something important you had to do. I suspect very few people, if any, do that anymore. They just schedule a reminder on their phone.
  15. I actually enjoyed the movie. It's no THIN MAN but it's entertaining enough with great supporting actors. The kind of movie from the period which isn't a classic but entertains none the less. And, no, it's not photo-shopped!!! Flipping the bird is an age-old 1st Amendment right!
  16. And I couldn't agree with her more! From There's That Woman Again (1938) which aired today (2019-08-05)
  17. Yeah, Eddie mentioned she was "the apple of his eye" during the outro.
  18. Make sure any and all material used to store these items is in acid free, archival material. Try not to handle the material without proper gloves. Oils, dirt, etc can get on them and hasten their decomposition. Always remember, we never own collectibles we are merely the custodians of the material until they are passed on to the next person.
  19. One might presume there are new viewers every year seeing these films for the first time. Also - As far as July 4th goes, if they only showed those films,(1776 being one) on that day it might make for a family tradition. But they'd have to be sure to only air them on that day lest they get played out.
  20. WOW! I hadn't realized that. I thought something looked familiar in the body of the page. I should have investigated further...
  21. I found an interesting thing today when I received my NOW PLAYING GUIDE. If you click on the link that says View this email in your browser it will send you to the September Now Playing Guide. There you will see Dean Martin as Star of the Month and other highlights!
  22. I believe Robert Osborne is on film somewhere saying something akin to, Bob Dorian being a "good reader". Which I took to mean he wasn't a film historian like RO but rather was able to read a teleprompter with ease and present himself well. MHO
