  1. I agree Mickey! Here's hoping the last of the TravelTalks will be seen before the year is out! Also - Traveltalks - Visiting Vera Cruz (1946) aired this morning. Yancey
  2. TravelTalks heads up - Tomorrow Friday, August 22, 2014 @ 11:07 AM Eastern Beautiful Bavaria (1953) Yancey
  3. Today is my favorite SUTS day of the month! So glad Lee Tracy was selected! Kudos! Yancey
  4. Thanks, Mickey - There was no indication of these titles airing soon. One can hope my inquiry inspired an airing or two! Mastering Night In Mexico City will take some time. It may need some restoration and that would take time and funds to complete. Yancey
  5. Good news!!! I inquired as to whether or not TCM had the titles in question. I received this wonderful response from TCM's own Dennis Millay! Yancey ------------------------- We have all of them, except for “Night In Mexico City”, which has not been mastered to video. Cheers, Dennis Millay TCM Programming Alluring Alaska (1941) - YES Colorful Guatemala (1935) - YES Glimpses of Mexico (1940) - YES Glimpses of Peru (1937) - YES Holland in Tulip Time (1934) - YES Land of the Incas (1937) - YES Land of the Quintuplets (1942) - YES Night In Mexico City (1944) - NO --------------------------------------------------
  6. I set both my DVR's to record HURRICANE ISLAND and once again got the following message on both machines - "Did not record due to a fatal hardware error". I hope we'll get another chance to see it. Yancey
  7. Glad to know that! Thanks very much for saying so. It's really a nifty little picture. I was glad TCM was able to get the rights. I felt extremely privileged to help introduce it to the TCM audience. BTW - I catagorize my films by actor. If not a particular star by year or genre.
  8. I've recorded so many movies off TCM if I started now and tried to watch every film, with no repeats, I probably wouldn't live long enough to complete the task! Yancey
  9. Great finds Mickey!!!! Thanks so much for posting these. They're new to me and were great to view. On another topic, I am so disappointed. I thought I posted two recaps of Beautiful Banff and Lake Louise (1946) and Sitka and Juneau, "A Tale of Two Cities" (1940) but I don't see the post. Can't imagine what I did wrong! Sorry foiks. I'll try and recreate them again at a later date. Yancey
  10. St. Helena and Its "Man of Destiny" (1936) This 8 min Traveltalk explores the remote island where Napoleon Bonaparte spent the last 6 years of his life. At the time potatoes and flax were their largest crops. FitzPatrick jokingly says the only 2 reasons to visit the island are to mail a postcard so collector's could get a rare stamp and to see the house where Napoleon lived. As always an interesting time capsule. I wonder if FitzPatrick had any idea his films would be not only a source of entertainment and study but a lasting reminder of a time gone by. Yancey
  11. WOW! It's a bonanza! I just watched Suva "Pride of Fiji" (1940), Now it's become a fascinating capsule of pre-war Fiji. FitzPatrick narrates a look at how colonization of Fiji by the White Man has helped develop the island into a civilized place. No more Cannibals here! It would be an interesting social project to be able to go and look at all the locations FitzPatrick filmed to see how they've changed. Yancey
  12. My pleasure Janie! Thanks for posting these two "new" Traveltalks! I just hope my DVR doesn't have one of its usual " program didn't record due to a fatal hardware" error. Yancey
  13. Taken within the context of the broadcast I liked it. Puts the entire show in context. Not to mention airing that way made for a complete program. The quality of the source material was superb. Bundled with Mitzi Gaynor's films while she spoke about her experiences made the evening complete. Frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing more of this type of programming if presented in the same manner. Great job TCM! Yancey
  14. Well said! I couldn't agree more. Yancey
  15. Chile, Land of Charm (1937) to air on Monday, May 12 at 1:40 PM. This is a definite rarity! Thanks TCM for digging this one out of the vaults! Yancey
  16. Sounds like just another day in Los Angeles to me. Yancey I Wake Up Screaming
  17. Looks like a great line-up to me. Some exciting stars and films. My picks = Lee Tracy, Edmund O'Brien, Alan Ladd, Thelma Ritter, Gladys George and Little Joey Cotton. A bad movie starring any of those actors still has something going for it. Yancey
  18. Now I'm curious how the word interstitial is presumptuous! Yancey
  19. LZ - They've been running randomly night and day since January. Some I've seen numerous times others only once or twice. They also showed them before the movies during the festivall. Yancey
  20. TCM "20 Years of" Interstitials I've counted 19 of these interesting little bits TCM has put together but have yet to see number 20. Does anyone know what's missing from this list? 01 Anger Management 02 Catching Planes 03 Classic Chemistry 04 Classic Couples 05 Classic Desire 06 Classic Goodbyes 07 Classic Noir 08 Classic Wayne 09 Close Quarters 10 Computer Problems 11 Fiscal Repsonsibilty 12 Independent Women 13 Jungle Red 14 Marital Bliss 15 Nick and Nora 16 Quick Studies 17 Robert Osborne 18 Upward Mobility 19 Wicked Witches Yancey
  21. Below is a list of Traveltalks I have compiled. The first group are titles I've seen listed in filmographies but have not seen aired on TCM. 22. Kyle - Just wanted to say you were missed at the TCM Festival this year. Funny how something can be so different because of one person. We raised a glass in your honor at Musso and Frank's. I so hope there's a place where you are enjoying all the things that weren't possible in this life. Yancey
  23. Fred - Until it craps out or I hit some lotto money I'm sticking with my 11 year old Sony Vaio with XP. I'm sure there's a lot more I could do with a newer and much faster computer but I've got it right where I like it. It's been a great PC, records TV that I can edit which is really the biggest thing I us it for. It might freeze up from time to time but nothing earth shattering from my point of view. I've got a good antivirus program so I hope that will keep me safe. Yancey
  24. Personally, I'm gonna miss "The Big Red Chair". Yancey
  25. There were two people I remember from my New York days. One was an actor named *James Hayden*. I saw him in two Broadway shows. AMERICAN BUFFALO (starring Al Pacino) and A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE. Hayden was an extremely talented actor with what seemed like an incredible future ahead of him. Like Philip Seymour Hoffman he died with a needle in his arm. Unlike Philip Seymour Hoffman he didn't do enough film work to really be remembered. The other was... *Kathy Bates* I saw her in a Broadway show called GOOD-BYE FIDEL. It played at the New Ambassador Theatre in April of 1980 and ran for a whopping 6 performances. I don't remember much about the play except it wasn't very good. The one thing I will always remember is Kathy Bates stood out among a talented cast that included Jane Alexander, Christopher Cazenove, Lee Richardson and Gale Sondergaard. I had a feeling Kathy Bates was going to be around for a long while. Glad to see it so. Yancey
