  1. I would like to point out 3 seriously rare airings. 2 not seen in at least 9 years! One stars Robert Woolsey in his only solo effort without Bert Wheeler and loosely based on the stage play POPPY which starred W C Fields and Robert Woolsey. 7:45 AM on Thursday January 9th *_Everything's Rosie (1931)_* A carnival con artist tries to mend his ways when his adopted daughter gets engaged. Dir: Clyde Bruckman Cast: Robert Woolsey , Anita Louise , John Darrow . BW-67 mins, TV-G, CC ------------------------------ Two starring Richard Dix 3:30 PM on Thursday January 2nd *_Day Of Reckoning (1933)_* A man's nagging wife drives him to crime. Dir: Charles Brabin Cast: Richard Dix , Madge Evans , Conway Tearle . BW-69 mins, TV-PG, 7:00 AM on Thursday January 21st *_Special Investigator (1936)_* A crooked criminal lawyer discovers his brother has been killed by one of the gangsters he kept out of prison. Dir: Louis King Cast: Richard Dix , Margaret Callahan , Erik Rhodes . BW-61 mins, TV-G ------------------------------------- Yancey
  2. Unless I've missed something in past airings it looks like TCM is airing the restored version of THE BIG PARADE for the first time. Yancey
  3. You didn't miss it. The Manxman was shown instead. Yancey
  4. Mickey was born September 23, 1920. His first credit is 1926. Mickey will be peeing on all our graves! Yancey
  5. Insane!!! This is absolutely incredible. This is a perfect example of why the internet, when used properly, is such a magnificent creation! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! Yancey
  6. I have never seen THE MACOMBER AFFAIR I liked it well enough. It was a little slow in some places for me. I'm a big fan of Robert Preston so I was anxious to see it for that reason. I found the scene where he beat the servant about an ugly a moment as I've ever seen in a film. It was quite powerful in a way I wouldn't have expected. I found it very upsetting. The print seemed to have either it's end credits or just THE END title card lopped off. It was a rather abrupt transition to Ben's wrap-up. BTW - the TCM guide had a "P" next to it so I assume it was a premiere. Ben never mentioned it as being so which is often the case. It's a UA release so if it was a premiere I wonder what the reasons for it being so long in coming. TCM often shows the older UA titles. Yancey
  7. I'm pretty sure the forner rating clips were introduced in 2008. I like the change. Simple and colorful. I like the new look of the trailer graphics. I thought the recentlly retired "screen" graphics were distracting as well. Thanks TCM for all you do to keep us entertained, even when the movies aren't playing! Yancey
  8. I wanted to take a moment to voice my support of this thread being archived. In all the years of the TCM Message Board I believe this is the first time such a suggestion has been made. This speaks not only to the great affection and esteem in which Kyle is held but also the value of his knowledge and insight into classic films. We lost Kyle it would be a shame if future posters never had access to that knowledge and insight. Yancey
  9. Dear Lynn and Michael, I am terribly saddened to hear of Kyle's passing. The internet is often cluttered with anonymous people whom we meet through the printed word. Some are great detractors to our collective psyches. Some, on the other hand, add immeasurably to our lives with their knowledge and wit. This was Kyle. There's no doubt hiis death is a tremendous loss to the TCM Boards and Festival goers. It's probably too much to ask TCM to acknowledge him on air but how marvelous would it be to have TCM repeat his segments during an evening screening of MEET JOHN DOE? Thank you Kyle for sharing with us. You will surely be missed. Yancey
  10. > {quote:title=kingrat wrote:}{quote} > > I'm guessing that as a stage actress Kim Stanley looked down her nose at a mere movie star like Leslie Caron. > > > King - I'm in agreement. I had the same thought. Especially since Stanley only made 6 films in her career. I've a feeling there was a bit of stage snobbery at play. (Forgive the pun.) Also, Stanley was not the young beauty Caron was. I like Stanley's performance in SEANCE. One odd thing though, through out the film I was reminded of Geraldine Page. I found a similarity in style and voice between the two. Miss Wonderly - I, too, was glad the little girl lived. You're quite right about Richard Attenborough. His performance is quite touching. I hated his age make up. I thought that was pretty bad. Yancey
  11. Last night during Robert Osborne's remarks regarding SEANCE ON A WET AFTERNOON, Robert commented one reason Kim Stanley took the film was because director Bryan Forbes got a good performance out of an actress Stanley thought of as a cold fish. Stanley never publicly stated who the actress was. Since Forbes only directed twp films beforet, THE L-SHAPED ROOM and WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND it might narrow it down pretty closely about whom Kim Stanley was speaking. Since WDTW doesn't have a big actress in it's cast I'm wondering if Leslie Caron is the one. Not an earth shattering question just wondering what people think of Caron as an actress. Yancey
  12. Did anyone catch this short? Anyone know how many of these were made? It was a pretty fascinating edited down version of the silent film with narration. I'd like to see more of these if they exist. Yancey
  13. > {quote:title=CaptainRenault wrote:}{quote}I know TCM needs filler between movies, but listening to Scorsese and Pollack, et al whine about "pan n' scan" is getting on my nerves. > > > > > > > > Why does TCM keep running this? Nobody runs "pan n' scan" anymore. We all have wide screen TV's with a variety of aspect ratios and can watch movies as they were shown in theaters. > Captain, my Captain - I must take exception to this post for one simple reason. While, I too am a little tired of this particular segment, I must point out that not all people with widescreen TV's understand or in fact care about letterboxing. I can't tell you how many homes I've been to where they refuse to correct the aspect ratio of the program airing be it a movie or a TV show. A few of them have told me - I paid for a big screen TV I want it all covered. I keep hoping for a multitude of epiphanies but I sincerely doubt this will ever change. So, alas, I'm glad it's still airing even though Pollack is dead and none of those directors looks the same. Yancey
  14. > {quote:title=Dargo2 wrote:}{quote}Oh, I see, yancey. Kinda like how some folks who live in that OTHER metropolis located on the opposite side of the country and situated around the mouth of the Hudson River still to this very DAY call THAT city, "New Yalk"??? Drago2 - I hate to correct you but it isn't New Yalk... it's "NEW YAWK" You gotta problem wit dat? Yancey
  15. > {quote:title=Dargo2 wrote:}{quote} > > OR listening to "James A. Fitzpatrick mispronouncing the name of a certain large metropolitan city located in Southern California as "Los Angle-less", by now???!!! > > > LOL > Just a historical note here - The pronounciation of Los Angeles, FitzPatrick uses, is correct for the time. It was not uncommon then to hear it. I'm not sure when that changed per se but it wouldn't have turned heads or ears back then. Yancey
  16. I was sorry not to see the Esther Williams Private Screenings on the schedule. I thought the EW PS would have been a great addition to the tribute. I've seen all of them at one time or another however the Rod Steiger interview hasn't aired in at least 6 or 7 years. (It was put on a podcast in recent times but not aired.) Is there a rights issue with these programs? Any know if they've gone into some kind of moratorium? What about the long unseen Steiger interview? Any answers would be most appreciated. Yancey
  17. Are you speaking of one of my favorite films? The Comic? Great picture with Mickey Rooney. I was told there was a scene which was cut from the film. Apparently there was a nude tennis match or something there of. No joke. I heard this from an extremely reliable source. Yancey
  18. First Ben introduces the sound version of BLACKMAIL instead of the intended silent version. Then a TCM Premiere, THE MURDERER LIVES AT NUMBER 21, is given a less than auspicious debut by airing in widescreen instead of the correct apsect ratio of 1:33. I was looking forward to both films. After a week of a bad signal from TWC my picture was finally void of pixilation but it was not to be. I hope this is this remains the worst part of my week! Yancey
  19. TCM often shows films from Monogram as well as Allied Artists. You just have to keep checking the schedule. A short while ago they ran all the BOWERY BOYS in their release order. One of the great reasons I love TCM! Yancey
  20. Valentine - Thanks for clarifying that term. I'm guessing if TCM were showing the superbowl it would have been fixed immediately or not have happened at all. Yancey
  21. As far as TWC is concerned it's more about gremlins than pixies!
  22. I'm extremely grateful for TCM. I can honestly say, without hesitation, TCM is the only real reason I still have cable!! However one can't help pointing out room for improvement. And really that's my only complaint I can think of. Movies should never repeat when there are so many others that never see the light of day... or dark of night! Yancey
  23. It wasn't for me but I feel hopeful it will get fixed soon, Yancey
  24. I would like to challange the TCM Programmers to have two months in a row where no movie repeats. There's no need for a film to air 4 times in one year when I can think of several obscure films that haven't aired once in 5 years or more. Yancey
