  1. Just read this on the IMDB... Hope it's true. Hope it's soon! Yancey Hewlett-Packard has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to turn out DVDs from the studio's library whenever customers request them, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Thursday). The deal will allow consumers to order movies that ordinarily would not be stocked by dealers because they are too obscure or too old. HP indicated that it expects to sign similar deals with other studios. "We're hoping this provides another option to make available products that wouldn't necessarily garner widespread retail shelf space," Jason Spivak, head of strategic development at Sony Home Entertainment, told the Times.Added Doug Warner, head of HP's digital content business, "If studios can sell more catalog than previously, they can generate more money."
  2. The TCM Promo for 31 Days Of Oscar (2008) has 4 running times - 15, 30, 120 and 240 seconds. When I see it start I always hope it's the 2 minute version. I think the editor did an astounding job. I especially like the North By Northwest transition. Yancey
  3. Bill - Below is what I believe to be a complete list of these musical pieces. Please note that the "Merry Wives" 35MM Version is just that. There are different shots of the orchestra used. It is NOT a pan and scan version of the Cinemascope Version. Yancey Capriccio Italien (1953) La Gazza Ladra Overture - (The Thieving Magpie) - (1954) M-G-M Jubilee Overture (1954) Overture - Poet and Peasant (1955) Overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor (1953) - 35MM Version Overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor (1953) - Cinemescope Version Strauss Fantasy (1954)
  4. talkietime - Judge Hardy and Son had numerous problems. The two Maisie films I can point to immediately were Ring Side Maisie and Swing Shift Maisie. On Swing Shift Maisie the problems were numerous in the beginning scenes where Ann Sothern was doing the dog act and James Craig was on the phone. It was quite obvious and not worth watching because I sat there not enjoying the movie but waiting for the problems to happen again. I just turned the TV off. Yancey
  5. "I bulked the recording of Hot Water with the five Durango Kid movies that followed. I have found no similar problems while skipping through these other films at five-minute intervals." talkietime - I did the same as you - bulk recorded. At first glance none of the Durango Kid movies appear to have any problems on my end as well. Over the next few days I hope to be able to examine them more closely. If you look at the third screen capture you will see the two big pixilated bars. The action played behind normally. I felt like I was watching HOT WATER through a prison cell. I know several of the Maisie and Andy Hardy movies I tried to record were ruined by the same situation. I was relieved to see that FOUR MOTHERS was unaffected. To my knowledge TCM hasn't shown that since at least before 2003. Yancey
  6. When you put it that way, yes, it is. However the fear of only being able to do it once puts an edge on things that's quite unlike doing a play numerous times or a film with retakes. That added nervous energy can make or break the whole thing. Yancey
  7. Ollie - In my paranoia I thought it was just me... Sorry to hear that it's not. Unfortunately there's no alternative for me. The dish is not an option where I live. Otherwise... If it were any other station I wouldn't care. I find it amazingly ironic that TCM, my favorite station, is the only one this happens to. Yancey
  8. No, because in a play you can only make a fool of yourself to a limited number of people and secondly with a play you get to do it more than once! Yancey
  9. 12 visits, two new boxes, assurances that my signal is strong and all my connections are tight.size> TCM is the only channel this happens to!!! size> Thank you, Time Warner for your outstanding service!size> Yancey
  10. kennethlawson - As far as I've been told I'd need the landlord's permission to put it on the roof. If I had a balcony I could just put it there and they'd have no say. Fred - I'm going to call Direct TV and find out if they can put a dish in the home. I'm sick of Time Warner. I've got to do something. Yancey
  11. I've been having the same problem for six months now. I'm right in the middle of a good movie and the picture freezes and pixilates. Time and again I've called Time Warner, they've come, they've checked the wires, they've swapped out the boxes, proven to me that the signal is strong and still TCM is the only station this happens on. I actually show them the problem on the DVR, they nod, they can see there's a problem and yet apparently there's not a damn thing they can do about it. WHY???????? Since TCM is primarily the station I watch it's been absolutely no fun anymore. I can't watch TCM without being distracted by the fact that at any moment there's going to be a problem. I used to have the dish but my new landlords won't let me put one on the roof. I don't have a balcony to attach a dish to. So it's cable or nothing and now I think it's going to be nothing. I'm going to cancel my cable all together and just do Netflix. Perhaps I should see if I can just go with out regular TV for a while. Also save about 90 bucks a month. I'll be back when I can get a dish but for the time being... TIME WARNER SUCKS!!!!! Yancey

  13. "When will TCM be showing 88103 again? I meant to set my VCR to record it, but I fell asleep!" I have it on my dvr - if you have 88102 I'll gladly swap a copy! Yancey
  14. Thanks, tcmprogrammer for letting us know. Now if you could only do something about the voices in my head! Yancey Message was edited by: yanceycravat
  15. Time to take off the tinfoil hat, Yancey Not until I hear from tcmprogrammer what the heck is going on!!!!! Yancey 88103 Message was edited by: yanceycravat
  16. MUST WATCH TCM --- MUST WATCH TCM -- MUST WATCH TCM... ONE OF US - GOOBLE GOBBLE GOOBLE GOBBLE - ONE OF US
  17. As you can see by the screen captures the numbers were the same so it would be very odd that they'd be on separate tapes from separate companies. Yancey
  18. Thanks for the reply tcmprogrammer. Too bad they are a one shot deal. They really ought to be repeated from time to time. Hopefully when the internet can maintain larger format content they'll be able to be seen just like On Demand. Right now the TCM Viewing screen is a little too small for me to enjoy at close range. Yancey
  19. You too, Fred? Sorry you did too but glad it's not just me... I hope someone can tell us what that was. Yancey
  20. This 88103 number appeared on my screen during The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming And also appeared on my screen during On Golden Pond What does this mean? Why are you doing this to me? Kenneth, what's the frequency???? Yancey Message was edited by: yanceycravat
  21. Me Too! I've enjoyed all the ones I've caught and lamented the one's I've missed. I wish TCM could/would recycle these intro's and wrap-ups when the movies are reaired. TCMPROMGRAMMER - Is there a reuse issue for these intros? Thanks, Yancey
  22. It feels like I've waited forever to see THE WHISTLER movies on TCM. I've never seen the final instalment. It was a great little story. Anything with Richard Dix is OK with me!!! THANK YOU TCM for airing these marvelous titles!!! Yancey
