MGMWBRKO,
Thank you for the last year's efforts of letting us know what shorts were coming up.
You truly changed the way I watched TCM.
For me, keeping an eye on the schedule everyday will be a little tougher than your fantastic updates but that's cool. Just glad to know us short fans have been heard and TCM recognizes there are folks who care about the shorts you show!
You're the best,

Of course, Capra's writers, particularly Robert Riskin, would probably argue that if anyone was being robbed by the director, it was he.
Touche!

I had the same exact thought about the film. Especially since it was a Columbia picture as was Mr. Smith. It wouldn't surprise me as stories back then were often recycled.
If you've ever seen American Madness (1932) I think you'd agree that Capra later stole from himself using elements of that movie for It's A Wonderful Life.
Any form of Capra is OK by me.

Perhaps it would be interesting if TCM had a night of films from only know prints such as Deluge. Even if they are dubbed or with a reel missing. It would be a good way to call attention to film preservation.
Anyone else find this interesting?
General Question for all - What would your film choice be for only know prints?
I'd like to see it again.

Is DELUGE (1933) available to TCM?
I know it's considered something of a "lost" film... Misplaced might be a better term.
I saw it fifteen or more years ago at FILM FORUM in NYC and wondered if it was still available for viewing. What are the prints like? The print I saw was dubbed with English Subtitles.
Thanks to anyone who know!

Sorry to have to tell you but that was Canada only. The US aired the scheduled shorts.

Anyone else notice the new screen for trailers being shown?
I saw one tonight that has the trailer playing on a billboard high atop an office building. It's different and while the aspect ratio was off it was pretty cool.
I guess that means those classic deco pieces of art that surrounded the trailers in the past will most likely never be seen again.

The Rookie Bear (1941) is the name of the cartoon.
Please private message me.

Richard Dix in THE DEVIL IS DRIVING - a mid 30's Columbia.
Some Crime Doctor's before Cartoon Alley.
Not to mention a bunch of Hal Roach Features and a ton of things for which there's no description which leads me to believe they must be Columbia features as well.
All in all I'm looking forward to it.

"this is like one of the best thrillers ever made"
I decided to try it out because I was really in the mood for a thriller. I never found it to be thrilling at all. Naturally I was disappointed. Sim's performance was the only thing that kept me going.
Funny how a film can be just right for some and not others.

How about George Burns was reminiscent of Robert Woolsey!

I just tried watching this movie. Aside from Alastair Sim's wonderful performance I thought it was rather dull and unexciting.
The print is great and some of the shots very nicely photographed but I was not left wanting to "see it again for the first time", like say The Lady Vanishes.

Can anyone answer this?
Now that TCM is running some great old Columbia features, is So This Is Africa part of the package?
According to some it was probably the most censored movie of the period.
TCM showed it years and years ago. Hopefully it will show up soon.
Anyone know?

I, for one, appreciate that the Pacific Time codes are posted. It's easier for idiots like me who keep recording the wrong time.

Back in October we saw that the 1932 Humphrey Bogart film, Love Affair was being shown in January... Now I don't see it...
Was it postponed or cancelled? Anyone know?

You've got to check this short out ---
1/1, 1:50am EST - Leo Beers
This is one for the books and an indication of, perhaps, why vaudeville died!

West Side Story coems to mind or the land rush scene from Cimarron!

I'm pretty sure my brother and I saw HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL about 9000 times on WOR's Million Dollar Movie.
Remember this... If you've missed any portion of today's movie, it will be shown again at...
3pm 5pm 7pm 9pm Monday Tuesday, etc... (my joke about the Million Dollar Movie)

I think you've got the wrong movie, definitely the wrong comedy team...

I wonder if there are good prints of the Harry Sherman's. Everything I've seen of those are bad PD prints.
Even though there are plenty of lost film that we know are really lost, there are lots of "lost films" sitting in vaults that never get to see the light of day. The Dix Columbias from the 30's for sure. The Whistler's at least show up on television from time to time. The prints used aren't bad either.

I've said it before and will say it again -
This thread is the best thing going.
I really appreciate MGMWBRKO posting the shorts schedule here.
I just can't believe it's been going on for 6 months now!
Happy Holidays!
