  1. A few years ago the Great Dictator aired twice in the same day.
  2. No, Ben didn't mention that it was the silent version during the intro.
  3. You do realize this is an anti-war movie and the moral of the film is that slaughtering foreigners is wrong, right?
  4. That was a pleasant surprise that it was the silent version. Very rarely seen! Nice.
  5. Along with Bezhin Lug and the original cut of Greed it unfortunately isn't going to turn up any time soon.
  6. Most other channels really are far worse at repeats than TCM is.
  7. Bringing up Compulsion reminded me that Hitchcock's Rope was also basically about the Leopold and Loeb case. Psycho is also modeled after Ed Gein.
  8. Laurel, Mrs. - Anita Garvin in Blotto
  9. Never seen There Will be Blood but have heard good things about that one.
  10. From the foreign additions of the 1001 Movies book there are two movies on the Finnish edition's list- 1.) Varastettu Kuolema (Stolen Death), Nyrki Tapiovaara (Finnish Edition) 2.) Niskavuoren Naiset (Women of Niskavouri), Valentin Vaala (Finnish Edition)
  11. My list for 1938- 1.) Alexander Nevsky, Sergei Eisenstein, USSR 2.) Volga- Volga, Grigory Aleksandrov, USSR 3.) The Country Bride, Ivan Pyryev, USSR
  12. Stanley Donen might be good if directors are allowed to host.
  13. I edited my post. Was I right about Son of Kong too?
  14. 1= Son of Kong 2= Destroy All Monsters
  15. Slavoj Zizek's interpretation of Gee, Officer Krupke and how it relates to violence and criminality in the real world.
  16. The Twin Peaks intro is pretty good. My favorite part of the soundtrack along with the "pink room" in FWWM.
  17. Land Without Bread Next: They Live
  18. I like Bernstein's, Korngold's and Prokofiev's soundtracks the most.
  19. The sequel Pervert's Guide to Ideology is also good.
  20. The Pervert's Guide to Cinema
  21. Lenin in October - Film about Lenin's activities immediately up to and following the October Revolution. Stalin had a prominent role in this movie but was edited out in the post-Stalinist era. Peter the Great - Film about Peter the Great's war with Sweden. Decent historical film from that era. Bezhin Lug - This one is a photo still recreation (I hope the original turns up someday). It's a retelling of the story of Pavel Morotzov - a kid who tries to stop his reactionary father from destroying Soviet buildings and equipment. One of the most famous lost films the still recreation is worth a watch.
  22. I think the guy's just presenting during 31 Days of Oscar.
