I don't think he was a bad actor but he was definitely given terrible scripts/ movies.

I mis-read this and thought you were citing examples of all the films Eleanor Parker appeared topless in... and I was thinking: "There are topless scenes in The Sound of Music?"
Yeah but only in the Laibach version.

A couple of posters have already told me they could get upset at whatever they wanted. That meant they DID get outraged. So there.
When you say "Do we need your approval now?", there is a tinge of outrage right there.
We are all grownups here, and we can tell whether someone is upset or not without them telling you so, both online and in real life.
Okay, my bad. Why don't you make a list of things that are acceptable to discuss and threads acceptable to post in and those that are not? I would greatly appreciate it.

As I mentioned, we need film restoration done on existing film prints and negatives. Having bootleg copies online made from decades-old VHS and laserdiscs is not the answer. Who knows what shape the film is in right now, and who knows if Disney has done any restoration at all.
Trust me, you people need to calm down, ABOUT EVERYTHING. I'm just pointing out what I'm seeing: getting upset over inconsequential things, getting upset over people telling you not to get upset, LOL. That's the very definition of getting upset over everything, don't you think? You may disagree, but I'm right. Calling these students "outrage machine" when THIS VERY THREAD is the very demonstration of an "outrage machine" is just laughable. Let's BE BETTER, PEOPLE. If you think less of others, then BE BETTER YOURSELVES.
No one here is outraged or calling for anything to be censored or have any names changed. We're merely discussing this. Is just discussing something an "outrage machine" to you? If we want to discuss something do we need your approval now?

Personally, I'm gonna be sad to see that discontinued during the 7th inning stretches, Eric.
And, for the sole reason that depending upon who the "professional" singer was that would tackle it, it helped me judge how good a singer they actually were.
IF they ended it singing the final line "My home sweet home" going DOWN the octave scale instead of UP as Kate Smith did, they pretty much SUCKED as a singer in MY view!
Hell, even I can sing it going down instead of up, and I ain't no professional singer!!!
(...BUT, don't EVEN get me started on all the needless and showy coloratura every damn "professional" singer now days seems to think The Star-Spangled Banner should be sung with!)
Ha! A bit off topic but you reminded me of how Igor Stravinsky almost got in trouble with the Boston Police for changing the Star Spangled Banner and using a dominant chord. A rumor later emerged that he was arrested for it which is untrue.
Compared to some of the modern renditions of the Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America and other such patriotic tunes, this seems very non-controversial to me.

The makers of "A Night at the Opera" (1935) had to delete scenes of Italian locations to avoid offending American viewers because the US had fought Italy in WWI.
Italy and the US were on the same side in that conflict.

when I was younger I never appreciated how excellent son of Frankenstein is.
today it is to me the best of the Frankenstein universal movies.
My grandma loved that one. She forgot the name sometimes and would call it "Frankenstein Jr."

Ironically there is another state college where probably 30-50% of the buildings are named for Confederate officers and the official spirit flags are reproductions of the flag that school's cadets carried into battle against Union forces during the war. Nobody has mentioned changing anything there - at all?
Give it time. When people find out, it will be the next manufactroversy.

No mention of Judge Priest?

This is from the article btw-
A university task force issued a report last month saying the Gish name and displays about “The Birth of a Nation” contributed to an “intimidating, even hostile, educational environment.”
Jeez, I understand (but disagree) if they want to change the name but "intimidating" and "hostile" are just melodramatic.

Please those on both sides of the argument....keep politics out. This thread is heading for the Off Topics forum.
Well the people calling for the name to be changed are the ones really bringing politics into a non-political area here.

I've always preferred Broken Blossoms. Despite the crude yellowface, it's a really good anti-racism movie.

Yeah, I think the last time I saw it was the edited version as I didn't recall the God quote. Next week is Bride of Frankenstein which many consider even superior to the first film.

Some of Jean-Pierre Melville's noir inspired films have also been on TCM.

Paramount classics TCM has yet to show.

Huh... The Docks of New York is on that list and it's not scheduled. I could swear it was scheduled in an upcoming month. Must have been replaced.
