  1. My favorite title card from the film is from the anti-racism scene where the racist guy with a stupid expression on his face blurts out "Let's destroy the Jews!" right as they're talking about working together and leaving racism in the past. The scene is just so over the top and cartoony and the guy's expression is so stupid, it makes me laugh every time I see it.
  2. Yeah, doesn't look like too many premieres for July. I imagine Star Wars was very expensive.
  3. They should show Tarkovsky's Stalker again if they're focusing on Sci Fi. I love that one.
  4. July 30th is a premiere of Star Wars. I wonder how much that cost...
  5. Before Giulietta Masina starred in Nights of Cabiria and Fellini's other masterpieces, she was in Without Pity. This film deals with racism against Black GIs in post-Mussolini Italy. She plays the friend of the main lead and is very good in it. It has appeared on TCM a few times.
  6. I like this one. Sounds like it was discarded from an old soap commercial.
  7. My favorite sitcom is probably Citizen Smith. The antics of the "Tooting Popular Front" always make me laugh.
  8. I wouldn't blame him for that. Colbert isn't very funny and is way too political imo.
  9. Anna Christie (Garbo and her father are Scandinavians) Next: kitchen fire
  10. The German version is okay but the woman (Viertel) delivers her lines in a really garbled, deep voice and I didn't like that. Also all the characters in that film are so rude and hard to like or feel for.
  11. Yeah, the Divine Woman. I only saw the 9 minute fragment that turns up on TCM from time to time.
  12. Tomorrow night is Flesh and the Devil - my favorite Garbo film of all time. It's a shame that John Gilbert never made it to sound because I think he was a great actor too. I hope they use the same score as last time as I thought it suited the film well. I just noticed that I've seen all her silent films except for the really early Scandinavian ones. She was in only a few films but so many ones that I consider superb.
  13. La La Land is another one that comes to mind. It took superficial elements from golden age musicals but was just a wreck. It also annoys me that they put the Cinemascope symbol in the opening titles but just shot it like a modern film.
  14. Yeah, back then most of the native roles were played by Italians or East Euros. It's always funny going through the cast list and finding decisively non-native surnames attached to the role. How much things have changed.
  15. Yeah, some of these films haven't exactly "aged well." I still enjoy them though!
  16. My favorite Giallo film is Un Tranquillo Posto di Campagna. Such an eerie and beautiful film. Also an extremely underrated score by Ennio Morricone. I really hope TCM schedules this one again.
  17. It's really a bit loud. The characters are always shouting and yelling. It gets to be a bit obnoxious at times. That is just my opinion though.
