A Broad Bellflower - This one is pure romance and has almost no propaganda at all in it. An elderly man returns to his hometown with his son and reflects on the love he left behind. He wanted to marry the woman but her jealous sister who feared being left alone (now the head chairwoman/ mayor of the town) ruined things for them. This one has Bollywood style musical interludes sprinkled throughout it. A bit stale but still decent. The lack of propaganda in this one makes it more enjoyable than most films from this country. I also liked the shots of the countryside. This film was also screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia.

The Felons - This film is from Yugoslavia. The framing story is of the man talking to two criminals. He describes how he joined a dissident group during the Nazi occupation and was imprisoned. The film chronicles the arrest and terrible torture he is put through in prison. This is a decent dramatic film but nothing special.

Hey no one said anything about any "conspiracy theories." It's just a bit funny how he predicted exactly what would happen.
-
Well you certainly called it!

Akseleratka - This is the Russian version of the Martial Arts movies. Irina Shmeleva plays Anuta, a young girl who wishes to become a police detective. The police tell Anuta she is much too young and inexperienced to join the force so she sets out to prove them wrong. With her boyfriend Kuzey, they try to infiltrate a carjacking ring. In dubiously choreographed scenes she fights the carjackers with karate. This is a pretty interesting action film and is worth a view if you come across it.

One of my favorite old slang words is "23 Skidoo." It's such an odd phrase. 23 skidoo (sometimes 23 skiddoo) is an American slang phrase popularized during the early 20th century. It generally refers to leaving quickly, being forced to leave quickly by someone else, or taking advantage of a propitious opportunity to leave, that is, "getting [out] while the getting's good." The exact origin of the phrase is uncertain. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_skidoo_(phrase)

Yeah, it was taken off the schedule a while ago. Hopefully they reschedule it sometime in the near future.

How come Burt Lancaster didn't appear in any movies in 1967?

Maybe he briefly changed his name to avoid going to Vietnam. -
All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)
Sukhov replied to antoniacarlotta's topic in General Discussions
For me, The Star (2002 remake of the 53 classic) ranks up there with All Quiet as one of my favorite anti-war films of all time. The scene where the soldier returns to his village to find all the civilians hanging from nooses by the Germans is very powerful. Paths of Glory as mentioned before is also a favorite. -
My favorite actor of today is probably Kyle Maclachlan.

Or Steaks and red meats.

Jade Scorpion is the one where the magician tricks Helen Hunt and Woody Allen into falling in love everytime they hear the words "Constantinople" and "Madagascar."
-
My favorite film of his is The Curse of the Jade Scorpion. I don't get why it was so critically panned. I thought it was a funny send up to screwball comedies and mystery films of the 30s.

I agree but on the other hand it is pretty hard to think of Oscar nominated films that would fit in TCM Underground (barring the David Lynch ones of course). -
RIP. My favorite Finney role-

Or they could just rename St. Patrick's Day to "Slavic Patrick's Day" and that would work too.

Has he actually broken any laws though? I know many consider him creepy but I don't think he has really done anything illegal.
