And Best Cinematography. And Best Director. And 75% chance of Best Picture.
True but Best Foreign Film I'd put as 110%. Really nominating other films is just to make it look like other films had a shot. lol
Edit: But I'd say it's not going to win Best Picture as foreign language films never win.

Don't the majority of members with a vote for Best Picture live in the So Cal area?
If yes, Roma is a shoe-in (as part of an anti-you-know-who protest).
PS: I should have stated that I'm NOT saying the film doesn't deserve to win (I haven't seen it or any film released in 2018), but that in a close contest (in a voter's mind) the above type of sediment could be a tie-breaker and that could push it to the top.
Roma is going to win Best Foreign Film. I'd put all my money on it.

I have one account. I have never used multiple names. I have over 500 posts and they are all tied together with one account. Getting along with others sounds like walking on egg shells and conforming to their desires. Is that how it should be?
I got angry and overreacted with one forum member when I closed my first account. Went for close to a month and tried to sneak back in and start a-new. I have explained all of this in the open already too. I was 'discovered' and welcomed back.
I don't think changing my name is a big deal. I am not a troll and the name calling offends me. My personal health should not be part of the equation.
I do not subscribe to the rumors I've seen about a former member having multiple names and accounts.
Having one user name and not fighting with other people in the Noir Alley pages or being off topic should absolutely not be "walking on egg shells." Literally everyone else here manages to do these things. People aren't just picking on you for no reason. No one is asking you to "conform to their desires" but if you want to keep on changing your name and trolling people then don't be confused when people get annoyed and tired of what you're doing.

I never said I dislike movies. This is a TCM forum, about all things TCM. Don't see how my comments in the Noir section are so disruptive, AND I did apologize. I apologized for my behavior to you personally once, but the thread was likely removed before you saw the post. I suspect many have already made up their mind to force me out, by insulting my character. At this point I am furious with the name calling and incorrect information about me. If I do leave again, it will be for good. Is that what you really want to be responsible for?
I don't think anyone here wants you to leave. They just want you to "get along" better with everyone and not troll/ use multiple names. We already have another poster who uses multiple names (accounts).

Sure! I'm tired of being in the hot seat. Now someone is quoting about my backside. Sheesh!
The point is you outright said you dislike/ don't care about movies and this is a movie discussion website! You don't see anything wrong with that. Also at this point it really does seem like you are just trying to troll and rile people up (especially in the noir thread). I don't want to think you have an ulterior motive but it really is looking that way.

Wow, talk about being presumptuous. First how do you know what 'most here find disturbing'?
Also, I have know this user for a long time (e.g. on the other\old forum that TCM used to host) and while their knowledge of studio-era movies is 'light' their interest isn't.
In another thread, he said he can't physically watch movies so he can only watch TV shows.
"Sitting on my backside for a full movie is a no-no from my chiropractor. In 2015, I had done it for so long, X-rays looked like my bottom two discs had been fused. I used a walker for a month and slept in a recliner for two months. In other words, TV shows versus movies, especially with commercial breaks, is just what the doctor ordered."
Also changing your name all the time seems like something a troll would do. Now I don't think he has any bad intent but it is rather suspicious.

just as full disclosure, I'm neither rooting for nor against LA GAGA in the BEST ACTRESS race, and haven't seen A STAR IS BORN, I'm also not familiar with most of her work except for the (awesome, IMO) tribute she did to THE SOUND OF MUSIC from the oscarcast, what? two years ago?
but...
I can just smell that desire that HOLLYWOOD has to thumb their nose at a (female) arriviste, daring to "step outside her area" and attain the validation that only a nomination can give. see also: MADONNA, STREISAND and COURTNEY LOVE
they LIVE FOR denying this **** to people who clearly want it bad (see also: JIM CARREY).
So, I'm not gonna be happy either way if she does or doesn't get it, I am just saying my SPITEY SENSE is tingling palpably on this one and I just FEEL like they're itching to lock her OUT.
She didn't get a Golden Globe and the Globes are a decent predictor for how the Oscars may go. I don't think she'll win either.

I think all the hosts are a little phony while working alone and reading a script. If we must have hosts, it would be nice if they felt more realistic. Once again, I am not excited over any host on TCM. Do we really need them? AT&T, TCM's parent company, just may cut out what isn't necessary. They just gave up AT&T park's name, the home of the San Francisco Giants, to Oracle. Rumor has it they continue to spend, even though they have $19 Billion dollars in debt. Be prepared for anything.
AT&T?
I don't get the relevance.

I like having the hosts. It's not like they introduce every single movie that airs. The hosts introduce movies on the weekends and during Primetime. During the rest of the day, one movie follows the other, with perhaps a short or a TCM-original filler segment in between. I love the TCM Late Night introduction and music for the movies that air after Primetime (starting 11PM PST? I think?). However, I like Mankiewicz, Malone, Karger and Muller.
I like the music for the intros too but the one I really, really wish they brought back is the old Silent Sunday Night intro.
The new one sounds like some Sigur Ros instrumental which is okay but it doesn't get you in the silent film mood like this intro + tango did.

Most films about people from 300 years ago are going to have historical inaccuracies. That's just how it is.

Was Hart cruel? I don't know, because all I hear is that he uttered "homophobic slurs". But that's too vague for me; I'd like to know exactly what he said. And the criteria for "cruel" and "offensive" is very low these days. As for forgiveness being overrated, I think it's that very attitude that's causing a lot of the divisiveness and uncompromising attitudes in the world right now. Too much anger.
https://www.theverge.com/2018/12/8/18131221/kevin-hart-oscar-hosting-homophobia-twitter-tweets
“Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay,’” read a 2011 tweet that Hart deleted sometime on Wednesday or Thursday.

At the risk of offending some, I'm going to say that I wish they'd stuck with Kevin Hart as host. I know, I know...But if everything everyone said 8 years or more ago were to be vilified and rejected, there'd be precious few celebs left to host anything. Kevin Hart is funny and edgy. I know all about the allegedly offensive comments he made about gays - but since those "tweets" have been deleted (well, I couldn't find any of them, anyway), I was unable to read them and judge for myself. And why can't people ever be forgiven for things they said in the past?
I imagine, Lorna, you may have been happy that Hart stepped down. Curious to know if you were.
I'm not a fan of him but I heard his routine is all about being offensive so I think it's kind of silly to get outraged over him being intentionally offensive. I think they should have just kept him too.

I think times have changed where people just don't have the patience to sit through a ceremony of that length anymore. Three or four hours is just too long. I don't have the data in front of me, but I think viewership numbers have been steadily dipping. It takes James Cameron or a superhero movie to bolster ratings. I think the highest-rated ceremonies of the last 25 years have been the ones when Titanic and Avatar were up for a bunch of Oscars or that year Heath Ledger won posthumously for playing the Joker. That's why they wanted to create a Best Popular Picture category, or whatever they were going to call that. They're gonna try to make it shorter this year by giving out some of the awards most people say they don't care about during the commercial breaks and just announce them later in the show after those acceptance speeches have already been given.
Plus they add in all the unnecessary skits/ songs and also that one time they brought in a bunch of random tourists and the stars were clearly very bored/ uncomfortable.
