Have you seen these 10 classic films..?

Haven't seen 858 or 860. I really love 851 and 854, 852 and 853 I like quite well. The others are okay enough. -

'The Sound of Music': THR's 1965 Review

People can complain about the movie's sweetness and wholesomeness, but it is still my favorite musical of all time. It's one of the very few films me and my family enjoyed together and we still enjoy watching to this day. -

Is Anybody Going to See the New Invisible Man?
Bethluvsfilms replied to antoniacarlotta's topic in General Discussions
I won't go out and buy tickets to see it, but when it comes out on NETFLIX or some such, I might give it a look. Though the 1933 original will be a hard act to follow. Even though you don't see him for just about all of the film, Claude Rains turns in a chilling performance. -

I know I do. Just watched MANPOWER and THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT again and he is just so riveting. -

In the HBO remake she does too, but it wasn't allowed to happen in the studio/Production Code era of Hollywood as you say. I really wish though that they would have kept in the 1945 version of Mildred finally washing her hands of Vera, rather than having her mourn the arrest of her still ungrateful and unloving wretch of a daughter.

(SPOILER ALERT) Noah gets to keep his good name and keep getting away with his dirty dealings. He'll probably end up doing to poor Katharine what he did to Evelyn, where as Jake Gittes just wanted to help Evelyn protect Katharine from Noah, which is what Jake in the end failed to do (biggest mistake he made IMO was confronting Noah and letting him know he was on to him). So yes Noah did end up the victor in here, no matter which way you want to look at it.

(SPOILER ALERT) Well Noah got away with murder, walked away with his daughter/granddaughter in his grasp, and will very likely continue to prosper through his corruption. If that isn't coming out on top, I don't know what is.

There are bad guys, and guys who are just plain ROTTEN to the core. I can't say that, as entertaining and fun as they are to watch, I've ever rooted for the bad buy to come out victorious. I know I wanted Scorpio in DIRTY HARRY and Commodus in GLADIATOR to get theirs, they are so despicable they are almost difficult to watch (no slight on the actors though, they did an excellent job acting wise to make me feel that way). Entertaining as they are to watch, I never rooted for Hans in DIE HARD or Cody Jarrett in WHITE HEAT to get away. They killed or were willing to kill to achieve their ends. They were cold-blooded and unrepentant to the end. While I can sort of understand why some would feel sorry for Cody and root for him, and it's impossible to argue against Cagney playing him with so much gutso and charisma, at the end of his day he was still an unpredictable psycho. Though at the end of the film, I guess you could say he did get the last laugh in a way. Though I will say there are instances in certain films (CHINATOWN for example) where the villain does come out on top and wins over the hero in the end, and it actually enriches the film even more.

TCM and Other Sources for Classic Film

Great films, both of them. Especially LAURA, with a great performance from the underrated Dana Andrews. -
Vincent Price could be quite hammy especially in the Edgar Allen Poe based films he did in the 60's, but I loved all of them. He turned in quite the right amount of ham in his performances without overdoing it. Now that is talent.

I loved Hattie McDaniel in this here, because as you say, she wasn't shy from telling Scarlett how it is or should be (not that Scarlett listened to her advice anyway). I don't care what the politically crowd says, GONE WITH THE WIND remains IMO a classic movie for all time. There is only one Rhett Butler and that is Clark Gable (forgetting that monsterous TV sequel that will never be an equal to the original film). I always thought Scarlett was a fool for not realizing sooner than she did (and when it was too late too) that they were soulmates, that he was really the only one true man who really knew and understood her. She really could be a spoiled twit at times. I realized though that Scarlett could be selfless as well as selfish and when it came to Tara she stood her ground. So she wasn't without her redeeming virtues. The ending is really downbeat.....Bonnie is dead, Melanie dies, Rhett leaves Scarlett for good....but still you can always count on Scarlett to keep on no matter what, another admirable trait. Will always love this movie no matter what.

848 and 849 are the standouts for me. 850 was okay but just another one of Mel's-out--for-revenge roles, and it wears thin especially in this one. -

The mafia's got nothing on Jessica, lol. They want to whack someone, they should just send their intended victim to Cabot Cove, in close residence to Ms. Fletcher, hehe. -
