Great film.
Robert Duvall is great as always. As far as I am concerned he should have won the Oscar for Best Actor that year (but lost to Jack Nicholson in AS GOOD AS IT GETS, not one of Jack's best performances, I must say even though Jack is one of my favorites).
The fact that Duvall also wrote and directed this movie proves how multi-talented he is, not only is he an expert actor but also an expert filmmaker period.

6 p.m. The Philadelphia Story (1940). Enjoyable George Cukor film. James Stewart won the Best Actor Oscar. My vote would have gone to Charlie Chaplin for The Great Dictator.
I love THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, but I agree with the majority that Stewart's Oscar for this film was a make up award for losing out for MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON the previous year.
However, my vote would have gone to Henry Fonda in THE GRAPES OF WRATH. Not that Chaplin wasn't good in THE GREAT DICTATOR, but Fonda just impressed me a wee bit more.

Seen them all except 686 and 687.
681, though not the best prison film I've ever seen, still very much watchable thanks to Cagney and Raft.
682 and 683 I say no thanks to....not really a fan at all of the films of Bob Hope and Danny Kaye.
685 is probably my favorite of all of these.

As a teen in the 80's, I started watching SANTA BARBARA around the time Kelly Capwell (Robin Wright) accidentally killed her ex-boyfriend and had to go on the run for quite some time (Wright was filming on location for THE PRINCESS BRIDE at the time). I stopped watching by the time a 3rd actress (forgot her name) took over the role of Kelly and turned the character into a self-righteous, judgmental witch.
I also got into ONE LIFE TO LIVE around the time Bo Buchanan (Robert S. Woods) was kidnapped and being held prisoner along with his wife in a castle then moved to Llanview into a bomb shelter while an imposter took his place. I hated the conclusion of the storyline, if I recall Bo eventually escaped but the wife wasn't so fortunate.....I think both she and the fake Bo ended up getting electrocuted. I actually watched the show for quite a few years, but my interest began to wane after the death of Megan Gordon (Jessica Tuck). I stopped watching altogether once the writers broke up Clint and Viki and hooked her up with Sloan Carpenter, a character I despised through and through. And I never did like any of Bo's newer love interests, with the exception of Sarah Gordon, Megan's 's sister, who was killed off only a few months after marrying Bo.
I wasn't born until 1974, I got into DARK SHADOWS through reruns. My mom did watch the show during its original run on television. Now I got the DVD's and we can both watch the show together.

Anyone with any speculation on what happened to Strother Martin's character after Valance is killed?
My guess is he either went into politics or got a job cleaning out spittoons.
"Friends, vote for me and I promise not to steal as much money from you as the other guy would."
My guess is he met up with another Valance-type bully along the way, with that insufferable sneer still on his face. Guys like him need to hide behind the toughest, meanest dude to make themselves feel just as important as the bully and superior to others.

Here are my choices for favorite romantic movies:
1. CASABLANCA
2. TITANIC
3. THE APARTMENT
4. ANNIE HALL (granted it's a romantic comedy but still an interesting look at love coming, going, coming again and then gone again).
5. IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT ( again I know it's a comedy but you can just feel the romantic chemistry sizzling between Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert from the moment they met).

On the minority on this one but I cannot stand the title character in 679. Give me Bugs Bunny any day.
680 a true acting powerhouse from two great actors.
678 is my top favorite from this bunch, even with the infamous chest-bursting scene I can watch it many times over. Having recently got a new better-sized TV, I can see it in all of its gory glory.
677 very unsettling film but good all the same. It is interesting to see Clint a bit on the vulnerable side for once.
675 I also quite enjoy, and the defining movie (IMO anyway) of James Dean' short career.
The rest of the bunch I give an A on as well on being very much entertaining.

Yes, nothing says true love like a psychotic nutjob willing to kill you or your loved ones for not wanting her!
