I admire Alec Baldwin as an actor, but I don't think I would want to hang out with him in real life, he's been known to be a hot-head.

Actor-producer-author Kirk Douglas (1916-2020)

Tom is right.....it's time to lay off the "Did or didn't Kirk rape Natalie Wood?" scenario, at least on this thread. This thread is meant to be a tribute to Kirk, his film legacy and paying respects to his passing....if you're not interested in contributing anything but insisting "it's very possible that he is a rapist", then I suggest to start a new thread about it elsewhere. -

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM

James Mason is definitely the best thing about Julius Caesar, though I wouldn't sell the rest of the cast short. I mean, even Brando as Marc Anthony was certainly watchable. -
TCM and Other Sources for Classic Film

Awesome selection, especially ATLANTIC CITY and FROM HERE TO ETERNITY. That infamous beach scene with Deborah Kerr puts many explicit sex scenes in today's cinema to shame, I must say. -

Yes, Kirk was so great in ACE IN THE HOLE,, as was Jan. As good as he was in DETECTIVE STORY, I thought he was even better in ACE, he should have gotten his Oscar nod that year for that one (though I know ACE IN THE HOLE was a box-office flop that year). -
Have you seen these 10 classic films..?

612 is a classic without a doubt. 615, 616, 617, 618, I truly enjoy each and every one. Haven't seen 619 and 620, while one of my mom's favorites, I can't say it's one of mine. -

You are right, this thread should be focused on Kirk's career and accomplishments, not unproven accusations. My apologies for unwittingly bringing the subject back to the surface. He starred in so many great classics, it always astonishes me that he had so few Oscar nominations. I am glad at least he got an honorary Oscar. -

Climaxes That Couldn't Be Better

So many memorable finales, but these are the ones that stick out in my mind. Of course there will be SPOILERS: James Cagney blowing himself up at the end of WHITE HEAT.....doesn't get any more exciting or better than that. Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) finally fed up with Scarlett (Vivien Leigh) and her mooning over Ashley quits giving a damn and walks out on her at the end of GONE WITH THE WIND. And just when she finally realized she had a good thing all along with Rhett and didn't see it. Sad but fitting finale. The whole world blowing up after the doomsday device is set off at the end of DR. STRANGELOVE as the song 'We'll meet again' plays as the bombs go off. The end of TITANIC when Rose finally meets up with her first love Jack and the rest of the passengers and crew who perished that night in April 1912. -
