THE ROARING TWENTIES had a great beginning and a very satisfying (if downbeat) ending with a great closing line from Gladys George....."He used to be a big shot." TITANIC 97 had me in tears by the end of the movie. And of course GONE WITH THE WIND has the ending of all endings and THE ultimate film line from Clark Gable as Rhett Butler...."Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

I actually really like DIE HARD 2 really well (the others I agree with you of being shallow second-rate sequels). It still has much of the original cast (even though the Reginald Vel Johnson cop only has a couple of scenes in here, but it's better than nothing). And it does have a villain that rivals Han in ruthlessness and cold-bloodness…..Colonel Stuart (William Sadler)….(SPOILERS) who gives our hero McCain a sounding butt-whipping near the end but McClane still manages to get the last laugh when he blows the Colonel and his comrades up in the plane they've charted with a little help from a leaking gas tank and a cigarette lighter). We never see Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) again since she and John have separated by the time DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE comes out in 1995, which is a shame. Nor do we ever lay eyes on Richard Thornberg (William Atherton) again after this. Insufferable **** that he was, I have to admit I still missed his presence throughout the rest of the series as much as I did Holly's. The rest of the DIE HARD series, while delivering the action, fell way short of making me care about the story or characters.

Agreed. I consider a movie a 'Christmas' movie when it has something to say about the spirit of the holiday. DIE HARD, classic film that it is, has no such message. If it has any kind of message it's don't underestimate John McClane!

I loved Ruth Gordon as the vulgar, tough as nails Mama in EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE and ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN. She was hilarious. She stole the show from Clint Eastwood (not an easy task BTW), even from Clyde the orangutan. I also agree about Gladys George in THE ROARING TWENTIES. Her closing line "He used to be a big shot!" is unforgettable. Elisha Cook Jr. as one of the thieves (the dim-witted one no less) in THE KILLING is probably my favorite supporting role of his. He comes off as very much naïve yet I couldn't help feel sorry for what ultimately becomes of his character.
