Quite a startling change, but as long as I can keep posting, I can live with it.

Love BLONDE CRAZY. Cagney and Joan always worked so well together.

Have to check that out. I am assuming Burton is Heathcliff, he looks like he can pull the role off.

Haven't seen 172, all the rest I definitely have. 171, 173, 178, 179, and 180 I can watch over and over in a week.

I wonder if John Barrymore might have won Best Actor for his portrayal of DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE in the 1920 silent film.
Even without sound, I felt he really put in a top notch performance.

I feel they are both great filmmakers so here's my take:
As far as the actual finest, I'd probably go with Scorsese.
But as to who is my personal favorite is between the two, I'd go with Spielberg.
I know many have a problem with Spielberg's sentimental take in moviemaking (especially in his earlier films like E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL) but maybe that's why they appeal to me. Nothing wrong with a bit of sentimentality.
Scorsese does bring a lot of dirty grit and brutal realism to his films which I also can appreciate.

Remember his brilliant performance in BUtterfield 8 along with Liz who actually won an Oscar for such drivel? And btw, that's the so-called classic I don't want to see again.
Liz should have won for CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF a couple years earlier. But it's hard to deny she turned in an award worthy performance in WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?

Sorry, but Ric Edelman is a bit off with his "George Bailey was a financial failure" positing here.
Nope, George didn't live in poverty but was firmly middleclass, as he owned his own home (but yeah, with a mortgage I'm sure), his kids didn't go hungry, AND perhaps most importantly, had AT LEAST enough extra household money so that his wife Mary could occasionally visit a Bedford Falls beauty parlor and where they were able to keep her from looking like THIS if George had never been born and thus wasn't there to marry her...

(...but yeah, I'll DEFINATELY agree with Mr. Edelman's "If you’re a nice person to begin with, money will make you even nicer, and if you’re a jerk, you’ll become a bigger jerk" comment and ESPECIALLY the latter part of it...in fact, a good example of the latter part of that comment comes readily to mind...a certain rich guy who been in the news quite often these past three years or so)
LOL
If the worse that could happen to her if George had never been born was she became a spinster librarian, she should count her blessings.
I mean, there are far worse professions she could have turned to other than working at the library (like maybe working on the streets, if you know what I mean haha).

161 is hilarious, 162 a much more intriguing film than the 1981 remake (even if the latter version had Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange in it), 163 and 164 make for very good viewing, 165....well, let's just say I don't think very much of Elvis' acting ability (though I do love his music).
Haven't seen 166, 167 just love the sparring between the two leads. Not sure if I've seen 168, I may have, but it's been awhile. Haven't caught 169, and 170 definitely in my top 10 of favorite movies.
