Will that puss be wearing boots?  ;)

    But fear not Simpsons fans....

Like "I Love Lucy" and other long time "classic" TV shows, and others not so "classic"( Like LAW & ORDER) the show will outlive us through syndication. It's already in syndication on a few channels.

I love LAW AND ORDER and have never watched an episode of I LOVE LUCY (though it was before my time and my mom's favorite show).

  2. I thought the original SALEM'S LOT TV mini-series was pretty spooky (though again it does take liberties with the book as well).

I guess it depends on how one views a movie's changes from the book it's based on, whether it's good or bad. I love THE SHINING despite Kubrick's many changes from the original book, and THE DEAD ZONE is an excellent adaptation as well even if it did leave out a lot of stuff from King's original story.

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is a rare exception where I actually prefer the movie to the original short story it was based on (though I did like the King's version as well). THE GREEN MILE was also a pretty solid adaptation as well.

Ehh...The first Omen had stoic Gregory Peck's gravitas and the filtered elegance of Richard Donner's soft-focus 70's-horror vibe--and Patrick "Second Doctor" Troughton as the mad priest--but DO2 sort of proves the problem of why Damien is a lot scarier when he doesn't talk.   And yeah, the "Who's 'in' on it?" gimmick gets more confusing than an average screening of The Last Jedi.

The third Sam Neill one is a bit goofy--the ending may properly be called the Ultimate Anticlimax--but Jerry Goldsmith ends up being the true star of the movie, with the most orchestral and classical variation on his evil-Gothic theme.  Which he puts to use in what's considered one of the better movie opening-title sequences in past years, as we find out what happened to the daggers that were buried with Leo McKern in the cave-in:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVlJmqsir58

That was supposed to be a Fox TV-pilot, and didn't quite make it.  (Two words:  Singing zombies.)

Also, the series doesn't quite work with a girl, either--Too many flashbacks of that now must-see Jodorowsky-esque cultural-oddity Italian Omen-knockoff The Visitor (1979), which is now everywhere on streaming but prized in cult-film circles:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0vBRdplSps

DAMIEN OMEN II had William Holden and Lee Grant and also provides a twist at the ending that I never saw coming. And while the little boy in THE OMEN, was quite sinister, Damien in the second film was bound to have issues after realizing who he really was...but I think it was only natural that he would eventually get over that and embrace his darker side. I thought the teenage Damien made that change in character very believable.

Jerry Goldsmith is a genius, no argument there, but an awesome musical score and great opening sequence can't save the third film from being a really dismal piece of crud.

I'm not sure that in THE OMEN that evil WAS triumphant, since it was only the beginning of what was suggested to come.  ;)

(SPOILER ALERT) At the end of THE OMEN, Damien survives unscathed, while poor Robert and Katharine Thorn ended up 6 feet under. So as far as the first film goes, I would say that the terrible forces of evil did end up victorious.

  5. Sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying. I get what you were talking about now.

I can't deny that THE OMEN certainly did generate a lot of talk, as did THE EXORCIST. One could say though that in the case of THE EXORCIST, good did win over evil in the end, in THE OMEN, it is evil that is triumphant. It would take another two sequels before (SPOILERS) Damien could and would be defeated. But even that is kind of ruined with OMEN IV which is almost too similar to the original film in terms of how the story is played out).

Well, it was a big hit, spawned several sequels and caused a lot of talk.  So, I'd put it in the "classic" list.

I don't buy into the theory that just because a movie makes a lot of money and spawns a lot of sequels that it automatically makes that film a 'classic'.

Having said that, I confess that I like the sequel DAMIEN OMEN II a lot more than the original THE OMEN. I have no intention of EVER seeing the third OMEN film again in my lifetime, even if it does have Sam Neill (whom I usually like) as the adult Damien.

  7. ALIEN is one film that I think fits perfectly in both categories of sci-fi and horror (though perhaps a bit more on the horror side....when was the last time we read a story of an astronaut fighting off a monsterous, murderous alien?).
