Most folks I know only seem to be familiar with Gaynor from the original version of A STAR IS BORN.

Speaking of Errol Flynn . . .

Adventures of Don Juan (1948)
The last of the great Flynn star vehicles, this handsome swashbuckler, with terrific sets and costumes and noteworthy Technicolor, further benefits from a witty, at times tongue-in-cheek screenplay. Flynn, perhaps a bit past his prime, is still in great swashbuckling form, with some delicious dialogue. ("There's a little bit of Don Juan in every man and, since I am Don Juan, there must be more of him in me.").
Viveca Lindfors, Alan Hale and Robert Douglas co-star under Vincent Sherman's direction, and there will be an exciting duel on a giant staircase. One more thing. This film has one of the great Max Steiner musical scores.

Looking forward to it. Yes Errol was starting to go downhill, but he was still agile enough at this time to pull off another great swashbuckling performance.

Doctor Sleep (2019) 6/10 current theatrical release.
A sequel to The Shining (1980) with grown up Danny Torrance (Ewan Macgregor) meeting a young girl with similar powers, they team up to battle some demons.
This is a good film, not overly gory and very low key. It is overlong (152 minutes) and the lead villain is a bland looking actress (Rebecca Ferguson) with an equally bland performance, she is not very frightening. The film is a treat for fans of the original, it copies several shots from that one.
I wonder how Stephen King will like this one, considering how much he loathes Stanley Kubrick's film.
Have to admit, I am kind of interesting in going to see this one myself. Always liked Ewan Macgregor.

Chris Tucker in The Fifth Element, truly one of the most obnoxious characterizations ever captured on film. If he had been in the film any more I'm sure I would have been in need of major dental repair from all the teeth grinding I was doing whenever he was on screen.

I find Chris Tucker obnoxious in every movie he's been in.

The Hitch-Hiker was everything Eddie promised. As usual, his intros and outros give new reasons to appreciate the movies on Noir Alley. I have Road House (1948) with Ida Lupino on DVD and will need to watch it again. It is a good movie, but I don't like the way Richard Widmark played his role. But this is about The Hitch-Hiker.
Liked that Eddie pointed out how well Frank Lovejoy performed in it. As for William Talman, definitely not Ham Burger.
I noticed that in the opening sequences a pack of Chesterfield cigarettes fell out of the car after Talman shot the couple. Chesterfields seem to show up a lot in movies from that period. There was also a pack in the glove compartment of O'Brien's car.
I have to give the ROAD HOUSE version with Ida Lupino a look. The only ROAD HOUSE film I've ever seen was the one with Patrick Swayze.
I'm guessing the Swayze film is NOT a remake of the earlier movie.

That could possibly be it? But I can't remember. I try to block out memories of seeing The Shining if at all possible. That movie is so boring.
THE SHINING is many things but boring IMO is NOT one of them. It's been a childhood classic for me since I was a child.

I have always enjoyed Donald Crisp in everything he's been in (even in films unworthy of his talent).
It does seem like he was in almost every movie from the mid 30's to the mid 40's.
I always felt his best role was as the matriarch of the Brown clan in NATIONAL VELVET. But he made every movie he was in that much more special

I still like some of these people's work, mostly earlier efforts. And to tell the truth, I don't recall ever hearing anything untowards about RUSSELL CROWE. What'd I miss?
Sepiatone
Well, Crowe was known to thrown a hissy fit at a hotel where he was staying....he threw his cell phone at one of the hotel's employees. Plus he's not exactly known to be a gracious loser (he had THE sourest look of any Oscar loser I've seen when he lost Best Actor for A BEAUTIFUL MIND to Denzel Washington in TRAINING DAY).
Many folks believe it was his behavior over that incident that cost him the Oscar. Whether that is true to not I have to say, in my opinion, as great as he was in A BEAUTIFUL MIND I think Denzel was just a little bit better.
