There's nothing wrong with putting Al Pacino's "Dog Day Afternoon' at the top.
Not just one of the best films ever made in the 70s but really a film that's going to catch a number of generations' interest.
Great actors, based on a true story, and fantastic Direction-- Sidney Lumet.
Plus I can't wait to see Ida Lupino's direction of Perry Mason's Hamilton Burger as a serial killer.
Ida actually interviewed a real serial killer to get this one just right.
That's a terrific lineup for a lot of different audience types.
Couldn't agree with you more. Watched it again the other day, and Pacino just holds your attention. Who can forget his yelling "ATTICA! ATTICA!".
He really should have won the Best Actor Oscar that year, but unfortunately he had the bad luck to be competing against Jack Nicholson, who was also overdue, for ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST. I can't say Jack was an undeserving winner, but I really wish it could have been a tie that year between him and Al.

I have to admit I was disappointed when I heard that Walter Brennan was a racist but I was flat-out shocked when I heard that story about him doing a dance of joy after hearing about the assassination of Martin Luther King.
Still enjoy his film work though, but the sounds of it wouldn't want to meet him in real life.

DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK with Henry Fonda & Claudette Colbert
Good film. Not the best film of either Fonda or Colbert, but still entertaining.

Robert Mitchum is a tough act to follow as the monsterous, manipulative Max Cady in 1962's CAPE FEAR. But I think Robert De Niro filled those big shoes admiringly.
At least in this version (SPOILERS): Cady did have a legitimate reason to hate Sam Bowden. In the original Bowden testified against Cady, setting off Cady's undeserving wrath upon him and his family. In Scorsese's version Bowden, as Cady's defense attorney, deliberately withheld evidence that allowed Cady to be sent to the prison. Even though Cady is still a piece of crap even in this version, Bowden has no one to blame but himself for bringing Cady's vengeance upon himself and his family.

JOE cemented my favor for PETER BOYLE as for too long an underappreciated actor. Not thankfully for his entire career, but for too long a time. As for Sarandon....
I paid her no mind in Joe, and only count PRETTY BABY and ATLANTIC CITY as movies she did that I can tolerate. Sorry, but we part on THELMA AND LOUISE, as the best thing in that movie was them driving off that cliff!

I forgot about JOE, yes that is a great movie, and Peter Boyle is absolutely fantastic in it. I am glad that he finally got the recognition he deserved, even if it was belated, in EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. He was hilarious as Frank Barone.
As for Susan Sarandon, I can take her or leave her. I think she did deserve her Oscar for DEAD MAN WALKING, but THELMA AND LOUISE kind of left me cold.

I'm not so sure that Stewart's remarks weren't taken out of context, the same with Wayne's comments in the Playboy interview. On that I am willing to give them the benefit of a doubt.
