I am a huge DARK SHADOWS FAN, as is my mom who watched it through its original broadcasts. Have all the episodes on DVD.
I always loved the going back in time stories. I especially loved the costumes during the 1897 period. And Quentin was one smart-**** character but he was so darn funny!
But Barnabas was always my favorite character. Though I have learned to appreciate the pre-Barnabas episodes as well.

Marilyn's career and her personal life were both in a shambles around the time of her death. So I don't think it's at all inconceivable that she would decide to take her own life or at the very least end up unintentionally overdosing.
We'll never know the truth about what really happened to her, it's all speculation at this point. She clearly did not have a very happy life, and her becoming a big movie star did not change that for her.

I adore Cecil Kellaway. He's a real joy to watch and definitely deserves a lot more recognition than he gets.
From Veronica Lake's devious, trouble-making warlock father in I MARRIED A WITCH, the likeable, doomed Nick Smith in THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE to the wise Monsignor Ryan in GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER, he's always a treat to watch.

For the longest time I put off watching CITIZEN KANE, wondering whether or not it lives up to its hype as a classic.
I finally realized I needed to see what all the fuss was about and sat down and watched it one day, and I was AMAZED by it. I found it deserved its well-regarded reputation and only wished I had gotten around to have seen it much sooner. But better late than never.

I have seen American Gangster upon release,I did not like it at all, A big gangster organization with no visible staff, it was very bad, Ness with no colleages.I like Washington early roles,i.e Carbon Copy and several others-early ones.He is having the De Niro syndrome for several years. American Gangster is the last film i have seen by him and lost all interest in his career.
Sorry you didn't like AMERICAN GANGSTER, I found it to be a very excellent film. Denzel was great as always as was Russell Crowe.
My only gripe is that there wasn't more scenes between their characters in the movie.
I wouldn't write off Denzel off as of yet. If you didn't like AMERICAN GANGSTER, you might want to check out FLIGHT, FENCES, THE GREAT DEBATERS. He turns in really fine work in these films.

I love The Big Country, not only for its intelligent performances and epic size but that great Jerome Moross musical score.
However, it's a western with a pacifist message, not cool for many western fans who like to see action and shoot 'em ups, often along with macho heroics.
THE BIG COUNTRY is a great film, and I love the fact that even though it takes place in western times, its message is one of pacifism.
And of course you have Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Charlton Heston, Burl Ives, Chuck Connors in here.....what a cast!
Just got the DVD a few days ago, I have to watch it real soon.

Imagine it.
I enjoy Arsenic and Old Lace (the only Frank Capra movie that I can stand). But, Cary Grant's mugging and over-the-top antics are the weakest, most irritating element in it . . . for me.
I enjoy Grant's over-the-top performance myself, I think the role calls for it being so 'outta there' so to speak and that's what made him perfect for the role.
Once he learns what his aunts are up to is really when the fun gets going for me.

Bringing Up Baby is strictly a nostalgia piece. It never really made me laugh either. What's Up, Doc might still work in spots, but it's newer of course.
For Marx Brothers I like the "Getta you tootsy fruitsy ice-a creeeam!" bit from A Day at the Races. Any gag really where Chico puts one over on Groucho.
Speaking for myself, I love BRINGING UP BABY, it never fails to crack me up. On the other hand, I absolutely loathe WHAT'S UP, DOC, maybe because I can't stand Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal.
Anything with the Marx brothers is a gas.

And, surprise! No NxNW...
I grew up in the late 60s and early 70s wearing out the grooves on my parent's soundtrack to Charade. Didn't see the film until sometime in the 90s, but I knew all the music.
Haven't seen Mr. Blandings... in quite some time, but I really prefer Myrna Loy in that one. Too bad it's not on the schedule.
I love MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE.
It is a bummer it isn't on the schedule, but I suppose they wanted to go with some of his lesser known films as well as with some of his classics.

WHAT?! You're tellin' me you can't envision the words, "I'm shocked, SHOCKED to find that gambling is going on in here!", coming out of, say, Seth Rogan's mouth???
Well, let's say if you'd wanna make a stoner's version of Casablanca, anyway.
SURE, and then you could get everybody's favorite Nazi of late, Christoph Waltz, to play the Major Strasser role!
(...can't you see this NOW, Beth???)

Next, you'll be telling me you see Adam Sandler as Rick!

Back to CASABLANCA, I still say it doesn't need a remake or a sequel. IMO it doesn't need a continuation to the story, it ended perfectly just as it did.
I can't think of an actor today who could play Rick as brilliantly as Bogey, nor can I see any actress in today's era topping Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa or anyone being able to fill Claude Rains' shoes admirably as Captain Renault.

If Burton had made it through the 90's or 2000's, I think the Academy would have eventually voted him an honorary Oscar. Who knows, maybe Burton would have turned in another oscar-worthy performance that would finally have snagged him an acting award.
My personal favorite performance of his is WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? But that was only one of many great performances he turned in on screen.
Would have liked to have seen him on stage as well.
