  1. Absolutely right! Gloria Swanson was just perfect as Norma Desmond. She is totally mad, yet I can't help pitying her. William Holden is equally great as Joe Gillis, the failed, would-be screenwriter up to his neck with debtors, and finds himself thrown into the delusional fantasies and daydreams of the delusional Norma.
  2. I also have THE OLD DARK HOUSE and FREAKS on DVD. Even to this day FREAKS still causes a lot of controversy. I wish my neighborhood had a movie revival house, I think it would be thrilling to see all the old films on the REALLY big screen.
  3. Seen all except for1555 and 1560. 1558 is a very good film with an excellent performance from Jeff Bridges. 1559, while it has its fans, I can't say that I am one of them. 1553 is watchable thanks to Katharine Hepburn and the rest of the cast, though the film itself is hardly what I call a classic. The rest I can certainly watch from time to time.
  4. With a few exceptions I am hardly big on Lana Turner, but I don't think I've caught this one. I'll give it a look if only for the rest of the cast.
  5. Have not seen 1541, I don't think. Not sure I've seen 1549, though the pic looks somewhat familiar. 1547 is very entertaining, thanks to the energetic performance of James Cagney. 1542 is also very enjoyable to watch. 1548 is an iconic movie with a classic twist at the end. 1550 benefits from the great performances of Paul Newman and Sally Field. The rest I can either watch or not.
  6. Great selection, especially looking forward to A FREE SOUL, THE WOMEN, and THE BARRETTS OF WIMPOLE STREET.
  7. 1533, 1534 and 1539 are my favorites, and also the only ones I recognize. I know I haven't seen 1540, the rest I'm not so sure about.
  8. Been a long time since I saw this one, can't remember if I liked it or not. I will have to watch it to refresh my memory and make up my mind.
