Yes, I don't imagine MARATHON MAN is too popular with a lot of dentists. Personally I never had any problem with going to mine.

Well MARATHON MAN probably didn't make a lot of folks anxious to make an appointment with their local dentist any time soon after seeing the movie, lol.

I thought Olivier was gorgeous as the headstrong Heathcliff in 1939's WUTHERING HEIGHTS and as Mr. Darcy in the following year's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, not so much as Maxim de Winter in REBECCA the same year. Even much less so in 1976's MARATHON MAN (but he was in his elder years by then).

LADY IN THE WATER

Well one nomination is better than nothing. His SOME LIKE IT HOT co-star Marilyn Monroe was never nominated once in her brief career. Nor was Edward G. Robinson ever rewarded for one single nomination for any of his film roles (I know I sound like a broken record on this point, but dang it, it still makes my blood boil that he never got any respect from the Academy).

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Tom Cruise's performance in BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY. He was also nominated that year alongside Day-Lewis, Freeman, Branagh and Williams. Speaking for myself, he isn't one of my favorite actors, he was good in that, but not great.

Oops, I got the numbers mixed up. I am a bit surprised you don't like that one, but I'm not one to talk, there are dozens of 'classics' that everyone loves that I despise.

I will concede that SISTER ACT is barely watchable because thanks to Kathy Najimy and Maggie Smith, but my goodness, just too much of Whoopi in it to take for me. 1188 one either loves it or hates it. It still scares the pants off of me even to this day. My mom hates it though so you are not alone in your disdain for it. Even though I like it, I understand completely why people would hate the film.

1181 is the only one I haven't seen. The best of the bunch IMO are 1184, 1188 and 1189. I hate 1190, for I cannot stand Whoopi Goldberg. The rest I like to watch once in awhile.

That's another good film from her. Yes, I too wish TCM would play that, it really showed her versatility.
