i saw a movie years ago and for the life of me cannot remember the actors names, let alone the title. black and white, i'd say late 40's early 50's maybe...
premise:
a young lady meets an air force pilot on a bus who she ends up falling for much to her mother's dismay. she is her mother's caretaker since her father walked out on them some years before. after spending some time together, the two fall in love and plan to be married. she waits for him at her mother's home but he never returns. as it turns out, he was shot down and killed before returning to her. he appears to her in a vision or dream and soon after she collapses and is found unconscious in the rain on the steps of a church, clutching a roman (?) coin or medal in her hand - the very same coin/medal she gave to the pilot as a token of remembrance. she is found by the priest and a good female friend.
