  1. The variety of thread topics never ceases to amaze me.
  2. He did not sound "so angry" to me. Just disappointed. Anger=Nip's reaction.
  3. Agreed. I just saw Ten North Frederick (a blurry uploaded YouTube version). Off topic, but it made me wish more and better movies had been made from John O'Hara books.
  4. Still sounds like Carrie. Olivier loses his job in New York and cannot find another because it is discovered he embezzled money from Fitzgerald's restaurant in Chicago to go to New York with her. If Carrie is not what you are looking for, so be it.
  5. It was felt that you needed the publicity. Ludwig II has cut you off and you are broke.
  6. This thread has really gotten long with lots of nominees for the Captain Obvious Award, but I have to ask where has it been established "as a fact" that Natalie said she was being abused by "Richard" Wagner and felt he might try to kill her? As has already been noted, even if this were the case it would not be evidence of his guilt for her murder, but I still wonder where this came from.
  7. I am not excited about the first one but will likely watch it when it comes out on cable. Caged is excellent, imo.
  8. It also sounds a bit like Carrie (1952) with Jennifer Jones and Laurence Olivier except there is no banker involved but the rest of your description fits pretty well.
  9. Spence, I have to wonder if you are using a laptop and accidentally hitting the touchpad while typing.
  10. Not to mention the Starz Encore western channel. You missed Major Dundee? Wait a couple of hours, or tune in tomorrow or the next day or every day for the next week.
  11. The promotions on the TCM channel are not very enticing. "I like it you get to vote on(whatever)"" I like being able to tour the back lot". Not too long ago they ran a promotion on Facebook which I no longer see. The responses were mostly irrelevant to the promotion-"why doesn't TCM stream? I can't afford the cable package." "I hate the Wine Club ads." Relevant responses included comments like "How come I don't have my T Shirt yet?" "How much does it cost after the trial period?" None of those questions were answered and the posts are no longer visible. It seems to me that if you live in the LA Area, have ample discretionary income and want to widen your social connections, and hope to be "discovered" as a potential guest programmer, it might be OK. I guess I do not really care about the lame promos for BackLot or the Wine Club. They are certainly not as bad as the Big Pharma commercials which run endlessly on the commercial channels. ("Ask your doctor if your heart is healthy enough for....". I can imagine my doctor's reaction to such a question Nah, but your reactor button may break again.
  12. Is this what Morricone heard in his mind's ear?
  13. I see you received no responses to this. What do you think of it so far?
  14. Same here. I thought it was an excellent movie.
  15. I know the word "pregnant" was used in Ten North Frederick, but I cannot imagine that was the first time.
  16. This could be the longest thread ever especially since it includes performers who have been nominated or won, but should have been nominated or won for something else.
  17. I was thinking of her in terms of a nomination, but not necessarily a win, for On The Town.
  18. I suspect that what people posting in this thread want is someone who grew up loving and studying the movies, who interacted with the actors, directors, producers, etc. Who may have been an actor also, but was mainly a film student, ie another R.O. I think we have seen the last of those just as we have seen the last of the Ken Murray's who film Hollywood parties where all of the stars hang out together (as if those still exist). Frankly, I think Ben M. is about the best you are going to get.
  19. No. I am specifically looking for the movie version Robert Benton was planning. I am aware of the Robert Montgomery Presents TV version you linked.
  20. Well, how about Ann Miller, John Barrymore and Myrna Loy?
  21. I was watching Targets which contained a scene where Boris Karloff recited the story about Death and the appointment in Samarra. I wondered if it had been made into a movie and discovered online that Robert Benton had taken steps to make the movie, including finalizing the script and casting the movie. According to a TCM overview, the movie was released in 2011, but I can find nothing else about it. Does anyone know whether it was, in fact, ever released. I am a big fan of John O'Hara and would love to see this.
  22. Hint: The Sheriff has a residual disability from his participation in the Civil War.
