  1. Hi; It is a lot easier for my arthritic hands to keep the caps. No harm intended. By the way, Los Angeles has the greatest number of historic movie theaters that still stand. There are wonderful books on the subject. When I was younger, I was involved in Historic Preservation. Now, that I am older, I live in the Antelope Valley, which is a lot quieter. .the Wiltern Theatre almost became a parking lot. A lot of brave people saved it. WE lost the terrific Black and Gold Tera Cotta Richfield Building in the early 70s.it was quite an Art DEco gem. It was such a loss. Our building

THE EVENTS PROCEEDS GO TO HISTORIC PRESERVATION IN THE LOS ANGELES .THE CONSERVANCY HAS DONE TERRIFIC THINGS SAVING IMPORTANT HISTORIC BUILDING SUCH AS THE GRAND ART DECO WILTERN THEATRE/PALLIISER BUILDING AT WILSHIRE AND WESTERN AVENUES. IT WAS ONCE A SHOWCASE THETRE FOR WARNER BROTHERS FILMS DURING TH
  4. AS FOR LESLIE HOWARDS'S FILMS. HE MADE QUITE A FEW IN GREAT BRITAIN. THEREFORE, HIS QUANTITY OF FILMS ARE HIGHER IF YOU FACTOR THEM.
  5. I WOULD ADD TWO NOIR FAVORITES. ËAST SIDE WEST SIDE"(1948) "OUTSIDE THE WALL"(1950) STARRING THE UNDERRATED RICHARD BASEHART
  6. AS FOR LESLIE HOWARDS'S FILMS. HE MADE QUITE A FEW IN GREAT BRITAIN. THEREFORE, HIS QUANTITY OF FILMS ARE HIGHER IF YOU FACTOR THEM.
  7. HERE IS MY POINT. ON APRIL 30TH, THERE ARE SEVEN WILLIAM HOLDEN FILMS ON THE SCHEDULE, WHCIH CARRIES OVER TO MAY 1ST. NOW, THERE WERE AT LEAST FIVE DAYS DEVOTED TO HOLDEN, WHICH INCLUDED SOME ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE FILMS THAT HE MADE. I WILL GO BACK AND COUNT HOW MANY HOLDEN FILMS WSERE SHOWN DURING APRIL. APPARENTLY, MANKEWITZ WAS SO ENAMORED WITH STEPHANIE POWERS. MOSTLY, SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT HOLDEN FILMS , WHICH AT A TIME THAT SHE HAD NO RELATIONSHIP WITH HOLDEN.THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS TOTALLY NAUSEATING. I WOULD SAY TCM PLAYED ABOUT 40 HOLDEN FILMS.

  9. I ONLY STATED THAT THE FIRST OF HER FILM START ON MAY 10TH, NOT EARLIER. BOY DID THEY SHOW SO MANY HOLDEN FILMS AT BEGINNING OF APRIL. IT MADE ME SO SICK. WHY IS HE SO IMPORTANT? I SEE HIM AS A PRETTY AWFUL ACTOR. GLENN FORD IS BETTER THAN HE. TCM SHOLD HAVE TRIBUTES TO CAROLE LOMBARD AS WELL. EVERYBODY SEEMS TO FORGET HER. SHE WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST COMEDIENNES AS WELL AS A GREAT DRAMATIC ACTRESS. ALL THAT I CAN SEE IF YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THE MGM STARS, TCM HAS A LESSER VALUE TO THE ACTOR.
  10. Here is my beef with the programmers. MARLENE DIETRICH WAS ONE OF THE BIGGES STARS KN CINEMA HISTORY. SHE WAS A LEGEND/ . SHE WAS A WAR HEROINE DURING WW11, ENTERTAINING THE TROOPS AND VISITING HOSPITALS. HER FILMS DO NOT SHOW UP UNTIL MAY 10TH WITH HER FOUR MOST LOVED FILMS SUCH AS "SHANGAHAI EXPRESS", "BLONDE VENUS AND MOROCO. THE PRAISES CAN BE GIVEN TO OTHERS BUT SHE GETS FAR LESS PRAISE THAN SHE DESERVES. IT IS A SHAME THAT TCM HAS THIS BAD ATTITUDE TOWARDS PEOPLE FROM THE 1930S SUCH AS HER , CAROLE LOMBARD, MAE WEST AND MORE PEOPLE FROM OTHERS STUDIOS THAT WERE NOT MGM STARS.
  11. The Beatles "A Hard Days Night" is my favorite. It has great Beatles songs and a wonderful jazzy soundtrack. By THE WAY, IT IS ON THIS AFTERNOON ON TCM. I AM TAPING IT. If you can see it, it is an absolute treat.
  12. Hi; Donlevy was so comfortable being a good guy or someone inbetween. He was fantastic in The Miracle at Morgan Creek as McGinty again. I thought he was in jail but he appears again as McGinty, the governor. In "Morgans Creek" there is fantastic manic interaction between him and Akim Tamaroff. Tamaroff is another neglected actor. Well, they worked at Paramount during their early years therefore people do not view their films at much. It is a shame that young people do not have the opportunity to view Paramount films such as the films of Carole Lombard, the early Marx Brothers,
  13. hi The best MADELEINE CAROLL AND GARY COOPER FILM IS "THE GENERAL DIED AT DAWN, WHICH IS FROM A JOHN O'HARA STORY. I SAW IT ALL THE TIME FROM THE LOS ANGELES INDIE STATION KTLA, WHICH WAS THEN OWNED BY GENE AUTRY. AUTRY OWNED THE RIGHTS TO BOTH PARAMOUNT AND UNIVERSAL CLASSIC FILMS. HE WASN'T AFRAID TO SHOW THEM. IF ANYBODY REMEMBERS TOM HATTEN, HE DID THE '"FAMILY FILM FESTIVAL" EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT.THAT WAS LONG AGO. NOBODY REMEMBERS THE FILM NOW.
  14. I forgot to mention. The film in question, which was produced by Paramount is "No Time for Love", where she plays a photojournalist. who is loosely modeled after Margaret Burke White (the famous New Deal journalist). She befriends a sandhog played by MacMurray. All sorts of things happen in the Paramount way. Try to catch it. There are many free film services that are legal to watch.
  15. Hello; The PROWLER IS DIRECTED BY THE GREAT JOSEPH LOSEY, WHO WAS ONE OF THE GREAT DIRECTORS . IT IS A GREAT FILM WITH A GREAT PERFORMANCE FROM VAN HEFLIN WHO ESSENTIALLY PLAYS AN AMBITIOUS PEEPING TOM.
  16. CLAUDETTE HAD MANY GREAT FILMS AT PARAMOUNT INCLUDING A SERIES OF FILMS WITH FRED MAC MURRAY, WHICH ARE VERY FUNNY. I AM SO SURPRISED THAT THE TCM VIEWERS DO NTO MUCH ABOUT CLASSIC PARAMOUNT FILMS, WHICH INCLUDES THEIR STARS AND CHARACTER ACTORS.
  17. THE FXM IS SHOWING MORE RETRO FILMS. THEY HAVE SHOWN HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY, DOWN ARGENTINE WAY, LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN AND THIEVES HIGHWAY TO NAME A FEW. WHEN I GET FRUSTRATED WITH TCM, I SWITCH TO FXM.
  18. BY THE WAY TO THE POSTER "DUCK SOUP" IS A PARAMOUNT MARX BROTHERS FILM. IT IS THEIR BEST FILM. THEY WERE AT THEIR BEST AT PARAMOUNT. THEIR MGM FILMS ARE SUB PAR TO PARAMOUNT DUE TO THE FACT OF THE CORNY ROMANTIC SUB PLOTS. BY THE WAY, TELL EDDIE MUELER THAT THERE WERE FOUR MARX BROTHERS NOT THREE AS THEY STATE IN THEIR WINE COMMERCIALS. I AM SO SURPRISED THAT THE TCM VIEWERS DO NOT MUCH ABOUT CLASSIC PARAMOUNT STARS OR FILMS.
  19. I JIUST WATCHED MIRACLE AT MORGAN CREEK(1944) ON LINE. A WONDERFUL UNDERRATED PRESTON STURGIS FILM THAT TCM HAS NEVER SHOWN. WHAT A SHAME.
  20. YOU GUYS FORGOT THE WONDERFUL PARAMOUNT ACTRESS SUCH AS PAULETTE GODDARD MADELEINE CARrOLL DOROTHY LAMOUR CAROLE LOMBARD CLAUDETTE COLBERT VERONICA LAKE AND THELMA TODD \ Nowadays, people do not see too may Paramount films as I did at earlier decades. You are missing so much
