  1. The quote was: I am really sorry some director took time to take pictures of all that Sand, but I am not interested

My reply is: We must send word to the Shade of Sir David Lean!

  2. Though he's now considered a "supporting" star, DEAN STOCKWELL has always deserved more attention than he gets. His three major careers have carried him through prominence in films since he was six years old:

Child star-- Boy With Green Hair, Happy Years, Kim, Anchors Aweigh, Gentlemen's Agreement.

Young Leading Man-- Sons and Lovers, Long Day's Journey into Night.

Mature Character Actor-- Married to the Mob (Oscar-nomination, at last), Air Force One, Manchurian Candidate (remake), tv's Quantum Leap, and probably whatever film is coming out next week.

What a month-long salute could be put together by TCM for this long-lived star! Starting with the first film I ever saw-- "The Boy With Green Hair."

  3. Hello from Joe B, currently in Jackson, Ms.-- New Orleans resident.

I just checked on the status of the Saenger Theatre in Biloxi. In recent years it has been host to touring and local theatrical productions and is the home of the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra. The info I received is that the theatre may have had some water but is fine. The Symphony is playing its first post-storm concert at the Saenger next Saturday night, November 19th.

Just goes to show you that the arts will survive anything.

PS-- The Saenger was part of a chain of theatres with the same name. Others were (are) in New Orleans (soon to reopen after repairs following water damage), Hattiesburg, Ms. (active as a performing arts venue) and other locations in the US Southeast. Perhaps others can pinpoint more locations of "Saenger" Theatres.

PPS-- The Saenger in my home town of Vicksburg, Ms. was destroyed in a devastating tornado on December 5th, 1953. A high death toll included many kids who were in the theatre at the time--- watching "Botany Bay" with Alan Ladd and Patricia Medina. I had just left the Strand--- around the corner-- and the Saturday matinee showing of "Bomba the Jungle Boy" and the weekly Serial. I was ten years old and remember the entire experience vividly.

This tornado is mentioned by the character "Big Daddy" in Tennessee Williams' 1955 Pulitzer Prize play "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." He says that when he was told he didn't have cancer he, "heaved a sigh as powerful as the Vicksburg tornado!"
