  1. >"I wonder if anyone will ever make a movie that everyone, without exception, will like and not be lost on anyone" ---Lafitte

    >There is no universal agreement on any subject in the known universe.

You missed the irony, that's what I was saying. If you read above, someone said, "I'm sorry the movie was lost on you," and my response, in essence, is what you said, that there is no universal agreement and by implication to each his own. One should be able to express an opinion about something without having to hear, "it's lost on you," which comes across a little rude and disregards what we both seem to agree upon above, that each of us have our own perceptions, i.e., no universal agreement.

    Best Wishes,

  2. >It's difficult to compare these two...

Well, you sure did a good job, in one short and excellent paragraph.

In a way, many actresses can be classified in the Joan Crawford mode. Bette was unusual if not unique among the bigger stars in her penchant for juicy roles and her blatant disregard how she might appear on screen.

  3. I don't find any problem whatsover with the ascending-descending situation. As *MilesArcher* and others have pointed out, clicking on the "last post" (underlined name) on any particular thread serves exactly the same purpose as clicking on the thread itself and getting the most recent post as it was formerly. It's so easy and does not involve an extra step. Is that so hard?

*lzcutter* has a point I guess for anyone using the next/previous button. This is just me, but I've always laughed at that feature. I could not imagine browsing threads in that manner. That presumes I have an equal interest in every single thread and just simply must know the latest regardless of the priority of interest for me. It also means I have a lot of time on my hands to systematically access each and every other thread with new content. I wonder how many members here actually use that. I much prefer to return to thread list and choose what thread interests me the most a that time. Still, for those who use that feature, it would be nice to have a "last post" link there. That would streamline the process at least a little bit.

I hope they eventually give us a choice on the ascending-descending question, as before. That way we can all be happy (I hope).

  4. First time I've seen this. Gosh, after it was done I felt like running out and helping someone. The actors were flawless. I even liked Eponine's breathless, semi-hysteria in having to deliver a message from the guy she loves to the girl he loves. Laughton had a nice lower lip quiver going there in a couple of scenes. I liked his Bligh a little better but the roles are remarkably similar. Anthony Perkins did a Javert in a TV version in the 70s and I remembering liking him in that role. Frederic was great.

  5. >Maybe after welcoming you, they quickly change their minds and decide that they don't like the name "laffite".

*Finance*: Could be. We pirates are discriminated against at every turn. That's why we're so mean. Anyway, I'm thinking of changing my screen name to Guest.

*Cinemafan*: Clicking on the mail icon works for me too. It's easier because the cursor is at that part of the screen. We have a similar problem then. Why don't they like your name? You have the ultimate classical name for anyone on a movie board. Go figure.

    ;)
