1. They are obviously attracted to each other, but the woman holds back a little more with her feelings. 2. Though I've heard of these actors and am very aware of their legendary status as an acting duo, I don't believe I've actually ever seen any of their films. 3. The men in the movies are very strong masculine men, while the women are often in the "damsel in distress" mode (especially in the second clip)

1. The clip shows a much more optimistic view of life than what was actually taking place at the time. The lavish theater (no doubt, full of wealthy patrons), the large flower arrangement, the 5-pound tip, given without a second thought would not have been normal actions during the depression. 2. I believe musicals during the Depression Era were designed to entertain and make people forget about their problems. They could live vicariously through the wealthy characters. 3. If this movie were made pre-code, I'm sure the dress would have been more revealing.
