  1. BTW how are the hosts not likeable?  Ben’s existed almost 20 years on TCM.  Dave Karger reminds me of a young Robert Osbourne.

I’m not a huge fan of the Film Noir guy, but he clearly knows his subject.  I have no objections to any of the hosts.

Yes some subjects like “blackface” get repeated a lot, but for people who only tunein for one movie per day, it might be the first time they’ve ever seen it.   To us it’s old. To them it’s new.

  2. PLEASE DON’T CENSOR NUDITY.  For every naked Churchill there’s also a naked Fay Wray (or similar beauty).   I want to see & appreciate it.

I’ve seen very few post-2000 movies I’d call “classic”.  They are barely watchable.  For example: Slumdog Millionaire was a decent film, but it comes nowhere near the Golden and Silver Age of Hollywood.

Hopefully TCM’s experiment with post-2000 gets low viewership, so they don’t do it again.

    We shall see.

  3. You are using a blog.  Even Wikipedia would not allow that for a valid citation.

    - In 20 years Parasite will be considered a bad movie just like Oscar winner Tom Jones (horribly written & bad camera work) and a few other “best picture” winners.  Movies we think are great today often age poorly as the decades pass.

    - Your policy of “instant classic” means my 2019 Honda Insight could be considered a “classic car”!  Ridiculous.  And nonsense.  There is no such thing as an instant classic.

(Aside: If I want to get special classic plates on my car, I need to wait 25 years to do so.  “Old” is part of the definition of the word classic.)

  4. I just checked the schedule & this 14-part documentary is being shown with non-classic movies from the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s.  Not just one or two, but a whole ton of them.   Over the years I’ve seen a lot of channels (Learning, History, Travel, SciFi, etc) drift from their original purpose & I hope Turner CLASSIC Movies is not drifting too.

This documentary & accompanying modern movies probably would have fit better on a different channel like HBO or TNT or AMC.

Robert Osborne said in 2013 it takes a few decades to discover if a movie is truly classic: Does it stand the test of time (or does it age poorly).   I agree.  TCM should avoid post-1990 and 2000 movies as much as possible IMHO.

    "Star Trek: Picard"

Picard is emasculated.  Instead of the strong confident captain we saw from 1987 onward, he’s been turned into a wimp, that lets people boss him around.  CBS ruined the character in similar fashion as Disney did to Luke Skywalker (also emasculated).

The show also ruined 7 of 9’s character & the Federation itself. It’s no longer paradise on earth, and Roddenberry’s positive future.  Instead it looks like a dystopia (which I would not want to visit).
