I don't mean to knock this person, but I wonder how many films could've been rented (including premieres) for the salary they are paying her????? Weren't the other hosts good enough to host this show? (they have been for years). I assume the intros/outros are written by other people. Why did they have to hire some outside person? I'd sure like to know where all this Backlot money is going ( besides her salary!).

You could say that about all the hosts. If TCM can add another host, it means they are doing well. You need to panic when hosts start to disappear.

I also love LA and SF and want to go back to both. So much to do—much more than Portland.

Living in CA., the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, (or over the septic tank).

According to KATU 2 in Portland:

New report ranks Portland as the 8th most fun city in America

  3. I've been to the Wax Museum in Hollywood. Also, Univeral Studios. But the Timber Mountain Log Ride at Knott's Berry Farm was the greatest. Loved The Enchanted Tiki Room and Main Street Electrical Parade at Disneyland. This was all back in 1974.

In a way, being a tourist in San Francisco was more fun. Got to help turn the Cable Car around, or so I thought. Went to the Ice Follies. Biggest thing for me, Thoroughly Modern Millie on the massive curved theater screen. Back in 1967, when the movie was new. It is the only time I've seen a movie that way.

  4. I think the * next to Ford means it is spence's favorite. I would be okay with spence using a bigger font versus bold. I use zoom in my tablet to make text I can actually see. Huge for others.

On the Google Chrome browser for desktops, it is possible to make the text size bigger all the time. Maybe the others too. Not sure.

Good idea  I'll always remember just how much Ebert & Siskel hated The Jerk (l979)  I still think it's ok (**1/2)

I've seen The Jerk at a video store years ago on CAV laser disc. The original CAV was 30 minutes per side. The disc spin was the same speed start to finish. One revolution was one video frame. Great still frames. Later, CLV. 60 minutes per side. Laser begins at the center. The larger the space grew with each revolution, the slower the disc would spin. The fat end of the disc was 3X the size, or 3 frames. 1800 RPM down to 600 RPM. Still frames were electronic.

The CD and DVD work the same way.

I know, you don't remember asking me to explain.

The Jerk was pretty dumb to me. There are other superior works from Steve Martin. His very best is on the banjo.

  6. I plan on spending less time here, since nothing will be done about all this Twitter nonsense. Right or wrong, it is very annoying.

I don't plan on purchasing anything else with Windows on it. Linux and I don't get along. I'd rather have an old Mac, which I do, to do the things my tablet can't.

As long as I don't say bad things about Apple, or good things about Microsoft, which I use to do, I can return to Apple related forums.

I don't expect Apple forums to be as much fun as this one overall, but I have numerous iPad related questions.

  7. Oregon Rules! I say that because I live in California. I know more about Oregon than California. I get ice cream from Schwan's, but really, Tillamook is better. In Southern Oregon is Harry and David. We send pears to my cousin in Minnesota. Oregon is the best!
