HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM
Dr. Somnambula replied to Bogie56's topic in General Discussions
My tablet said snipets was okay. Thanks. I'm better with numbers than letters. My Grammer didn't teach me grammar. But she learned me my numbers. Some might say it should be "snippets." (not "snippets".) That is out of my league. -

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM

Why is this such a big deal? I could change my name from Michael Rennie to The Keeper. Would that be better? Has anyone here seen that 2-part episode from Lost In Space? Why not? Season 1, Episodes 16 & 17. -

Nope, but you can next Wednesday, along with a really long trailer. I miss TCM already, but can't afford it. -

I am a modest classic movie fan. I enjoy classic TV just as much if not more. I will get by without TCM and it would be a shame if I cannot partake in this forum anymore, because I don't watch. I know nothing about Tom. As for SR5, even I am interested in The Adventures of Robin Hood. Lost In Space is one thing. I am not a Sci-fi movie fan. Treasure of the Sierra Madre is no big deal to me. But I do enjoy other Bogart films. Knock on Any Door is very good. Then there is Cagney. I only like him in Yankee Doodle Dandy. -

TCM is now gone from my cable package. I use the Michael Rennie name because of his roles in Batman/Lost In Space. So why are you asking LawrenceA instead of me? I have seen snipets of the film and it did not appeal to me. Best remembered doesn't mean best. Not for me anyway. -
Almost all the Live TV streaming services have settled in around $50/month. Sling TV is a little better for "cherry picking." I stay with cable because I can't receive anything with an antenna. I mentioned having to give up TCM on this forum because Xfinity/Comcast will eventually price others out. I talked with two Comcast employees yesterday. I got my digs in both times. "All the popular streamers but one (Philo) have TCM. All but one (Sling TV) include it at no extra charge. East/West feed plus On-Demand. HD/DVR. 50 bucks and done! Comcast Derrick said, "Say that again." Streaming isn't for me terms of replacing cable. The new streaming service from WarnerMedia is pushed back to 2020. They expect the HBO brand to do all the heavy lifting. Xfinity/Comcast has TCM in a lower priced Latino Economy+ package. No sports. (LawrenceA?)

I guess that is true. You hear the gun shots and someone falls. Lady in the Lake is very creative. So is the Murder, She Wrote version. (A Lady in the Lake) I can't save by switching to Dish, and DirecTV is dead to me. If I downgrade cable from 220 channels to 140 channels, TCM is my only casualty. I can run Prime or Netflix through my cable box. I think there are more classics on Netflix DVD. If I have to leave, it will be so exciting when I come back. (I seldom use On Demand or DVR) EDIT: $11.99 for 2 DVDs at a time per month (Netflix DVD) First month free. Check this out: https://dvd.netflix.com/Collections

Okay, I sometimes read posts in this thread, not really being a Noir fan. My bad. When here, I try to be useful. I enjoy Key Largo. Love musicals and courtroom dramas. Not a fan of violence, which probably keeps me from being a Noir fan. Comedies too. Auntie Mame. I am a fan of your posts. In a different section, I laughed at your trip to San Jose and used DVDs. It is funny how people still want DVDs. Blu-ray is still sluggish, I believe. I cannot see the picture difference. TCM is getting too rich for my blood with Comcast. I may have to downgrade and may consider Netfix on DVD.

Some drifting may occur. UPDATE: I looked at Christmas Holiday on my 23 inch computer screen. It is 1920 x 1080 HD without upscaling. While I'm not interested in watching the movie, I found it good enough to do so. My PC is all-in-one, with HDMI input. So I was actually using my Fire TV stick with YouTube app. Maybe Noir Alley will get this back on the schedule.

My favorite Michael Rennie is The Keeper, the only 2-part episode of Lost In Space. They went downhill with the transformation to color. I plan on watching the All-Star game. Comcast may be forcing me to give up TCM. Price is going from $147 to $208. I went there yesterday only to be refused a new deal. -

Guess I am still a kid. Have not seen this. Don't care to just now. Michael Rennie was great on TV. -

Well Sepiatone, read my post again. I got 1 independent channel. They showed movies that were current. That is where I saw Man's Favorite Sport?. No PBS. Got cable just before you. Grew up poor. Rarely went to the theater. I did not have access to the classics, but did have a pony and a creek out my back window. I always felt sorry for the city kids. I have seldom, to this day, lived with sidewalks. I live in a city now, about the size of your Grand Rapids. Yuk! I have lived in a town so small, we had zero traffic lights. I am a country bumpkin. Still have miserable access to TV over-the-air. I have to renegotiate my Comcast agreement. Without a deal, TCM is almost $20 extra. I have my good eye focused on Disney+, later this year. 😁 -
I can't crawl under my home anymore to run wires. Wi-Fi rules! If your TV, laptop, and Internet are in the same area, you can possibly attach your laptop to TV, using HDMI.

The resolution is 360p on YouTube. A DVD is 480p. HD is mostly 1080p. Sometimes 720p. This is the vertical resolution. Horizontal resolution varies with aspect ratio. My TV is traditional HD (1920 x 1080). You probably have 4K. That doubles both resolutions. (3840 x 2160). Your TV will do all it can to upscale the source material. It did look watchable on my tablet. It is 1920 x 1200. If DVDs look okay on your TV, Christmas Holiday might look okay too. Do you by chance have an LG?

Even if you are joking, that is a bold assumption. I did not have access to classic movies growing up. I've watched almost everything for the first time, right here on TCM. I enjoy reading posts from SR5. I can tell she has seen a lot more classics than I. Her knowledge runs circles around me. I'm my day, we were lucky to receive the most powerful VHF Low channels with an antenna in a tree. VHF Low was 2-6. The higher channels did not travel as far. I got CBS, NBC, and a pre-Fox independent. I watched movies that were current. Born in '57 and worked in cable TV prior to actually having it. Got access to "the big black wire" about 1980. I would not trade my past though!!! -
SpeedRacer5 says her TV has a browser. That should get the job done. The Amazon TV products have a browser too, Amazon's own Silk browser. As for Noir Alley, Christmas Holiday is only available to watch on YouTube. I think the Chromecast product would help a lot of people to see it. Here is what Chromecast can do: https://store.google.com/product/chromecast I looked at Christmas Holiday on my 10 inch tablet. It looked okay, but the resolution is low.

I am sort of interested in Chromecast. I have cheap Roku and Amazon TV sticks, and don't like either. My brother is an IT guy with our public schools. They have Chromecast and Chromebooks everywhere.

I am still only using my tablet. Biggest reason for my comment being so short. Haven't read it either, so the "cuppa" thing went over my head. Have seen clips/previews, and I'm guessing it would not interest me. I watched The Muppets Take Manhattan yesterday. Love the Muppets. Some might not. -

I have not seen it because it isn't my cup of tea. 🤓 -
It was a Three Stooges video. My brother and I use to watch this stuff and found it funny. Some might not. For me, the pie in face never gets old. The claim is the YouTube account has been terminated.

Now that's funny. Tell me if this is funny.

Funny guy that Joe. It is on Watch TCM.
