We've been working you too hard TopBilled. "Inside Daisy Clover" does not play on 5/5.

Why do some classic movie fans bash newer films?
Dr. Somnambula replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
Perhaps we have various views on the word classic. Then there is the use of the word timeless above. So TopBilled, I am not sure how something new can be timeless without due time. So that could imply it can't be a classic without being timeless. (I'm getting a headache) I believe there will be a time when the first and second "A Star Is Born" movies will not be well known. So people will compare the newer one with Cooper/Gaga to the previous one. At some point people may think classic is Barbra Streisand, and not think Judy Garland. Imagine telling someone Judy was not the original? I started typing this before the bias word was added. I would have a bias against the content matter in a movie. LawrenceA explained it flawlessly, as if he knew me pretty well. I like movies that can be comfortably shared with the youngest and oldest members of my family. <10 and 80> in age. So, some of those movies could be clean in content, be real stinkers, and therefore not classics. I surrender to the idea that you are correct TopBilled. Not because I don't want to talk about it anymore, but because you really are absolutely right. I still favor movies with age for personal reasons. They can be real turkeys, especially on that channel that plays two months of Christmas movies from Halloween to New Years. You know the one. -
TCM and Other Sources for Classic Film
Dr. Somnambula replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
Just an observation. Tracy's birthday is tomorrow. So he plays today. Nothing for Doris, but we did get Debbie Reynolds on her birthday. Perhaps TCM feels Doris gets enough movie time already. Just my opinion here, but playing two movies back to back is an adequate celebration. Guess who is not fond of Summer Under The Stars? As always TopBilled, thanks for doing these movie lists. Some may take you for granted and we shouldn't. -

I looked it up. I agree. Thanks. -

I sort of wanted to make a comment outside of the programming challenge thread. Making a comment inside the thread could make me come off as a know-it-all, and that couldn't be more distant from the truth. Plus, a little shout-out. I would be out of my comfort zone trying to create my own challenge, but will vote. Sometimes, I love to see the "stuff" from the past. That too applies a certain comfort level. For a guy who is not a cook, I love the old kitchens. -

My first uneducated guess might be Andy (A Face In The Crowd) Griffith. Is that what you mean? I agree with TopBilled. Excellent post. I have to agree with the whole thing as it applies to myself. Only recently have I moved to a more liberal point of view. I am low income and some conservatives could care less. -

I prefer wholesome movies over a lot of what happens on the screens today. Not sure that means I'm bashing what is new. Somewhere around 1970 or so, I see a declining curve when it comes to movies to fit my desires. If I want sex, violence, and profanity, there is always the TV news. Michael Rennie was born 3 years after my Grandma. I am my Grandmother's Grandson. That said TopBilled, I am fond of all 3 TCM #40 Challenges. They all seem to be progressive with more modern titles. That is so not me, but I really do like all of them. Kind of hope to see a more conservative list soon. I love the old train! -

Some people fear what they don't understand:

I happen to like Anderson Cooper. I only watch him on 60 Minutes. He is enjoyable to listen to. I believe he does a fine job. As for the statement above. CNN for a long time.

I had a handful of LaserDisc movies years ago. They were all Pan & Scan. My player went to LaserDisc heaven. Ever since TV went HD and digital, way too many broadcasters have trouble getting the image to fit the screen.

Remake vs. original / Remake vs. another remake
Dr. Somnambula replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
I didn't know The Day The Earth Stood Still has a remake. Gee, I should know that. I do favor movies not made with a Mac. I could see a remake of Best Little W/House In Texas with Cooper and Gaga. 9 to 5 and On Golden Pond too. Jane could take part in both of those. Someone needs to gamble with a remake that starts in B/W then goes color to signify the change from old to new. Maybe even sneak in the original film. Look how well it worked for Dorothy. I cannot think of any other film to do that. Why? -
My favorite from within a movie:

Thanks Hibi. I sent her a note too. As a little boy, she was my second Mommy. If I scraped my knee, I'd go to the record player, play a Doris Day record, and all would be better. We are talking Circa: 1965. She was my Do Do.(dough dough) Loved her music long before I knew she made movies. I still love everything about Doris Day.

MY FAVORITE WIFE VS. MOVE OVER, DARLING

It is possible to turn off notifications when someone quotes you. I didn't realized it was turned off or that I could do that. Oops! Guess it is the "Like" type notifications that cannot be disabled. Kind of wish it were possible to delete notifications once they have been read. I know, should post in the proper place. Just making a simple comment since I'm already here. -

It may sound like I'm complaining. Not so. I enjoyed seeing the two movies, and the reverse order was a creative plus on the part of TCM. Must confess. Not a fan of Cary Grant most of the time. So maybe, who is in the movie is more important to me. Never said I was normal. -

First thing. I am no longer receiving any notifications when I'm quoted. Only reactions, which is so not necessary. Second. Guess they can't all be like The Philadelphia Story/High Society. The differences for me are enough to make a back to back showing on TCM just fine. So who will play in A Star Is Born Five? Being the First Of April, I just have to ask! Maybe it will be a Science Fiction film. -

I watched both movies too. The funniest part was Ben's comments just before Noir Alley. This is the second week in a row for me to watch the movie before Noir Alley. Ben gets kind of cute before he hands things over to Eddie Muller. Both movies are okay. I'm a bigger fan of Doris Day and James Garner. It was funny how Doris Day comments about My Favorite Wife, not mentioning the title but the actors in Move Over Darling. I am guessing that is why TCM played them in reverse order. It seemed a bit odd to play them back to back, as they seemed so similar. Like starting the movie over with a different cast. -
Someone did a ton of tiny edits here, but naturally, this is my favorite:
