I wished it would happen and it is! Scott Eyman will be a guest in early October to promote his new book on Darryl F Zanuck and the Fox studio,i have the book on pre-order since early july, out in 2-3 weeks.Zanuck was by far the best mogul of the film era,he could do everything,he was a great editor among other things. Also the most 'vigorous' of the Studio System...😉

Just to say i heard the new 'intro' for Noir Alley again I,.I'am not happy,They removed the original intro, removing the uniqueness of the segment,it was replaced by a generic intro good for ANYTHING...I will check Silent Sundays as the previous one was not as good as the one 2 years ago but i will check what it is tonight. I do not like much in the new look in general sorry.

BLONDE ICE 1948 B movie original film studio is Films Classics (for real!) Directed by Jack Bernhard Leslie Brooks James Griffith. Very good film Noir considered lost for a long time,my print was ok but not the remastered one done in the early 2000's. So i can not compare. Leslie Brooks is a sultry, gorgeous femme fatale.I liked the film but i was not satisfied with the ending. Brooks married one of the actors and stayed married with him for more than 50 years. She was in The Scar with Paul Henreid and Secret of the Whistler. She quit the industry after the Scar in 1948 the same year as Blonde Ice. 7/10

I have quite a bit of memorabilia but since she was honored this week by TCM. I have this fantastic photo of EleanorParker by George Hurrell for Esquire magazine issue of May 1942.I have the magazine and the printing proof.I have it in a frame -museum quality etc.I spent good money on special photos in my collection.Parker was 20 years old and just started in film, the display was trifold. It is the most beautiful photo I have ever seen of her.

QUIET PLEASE : MURDER 1942 20TH Century Fox directed by John Francis Larkin George Sanders Gail Patrick Richard Denning Good early Noir i would say, Complicated plot with forgery, nazis and murders.I noticed the use of silencers-everybody has one - and knives not too common then (silencers) but since the whole action happens in a public library i presumed they wanted to respect the code of silence.😉 Sanders is terrific as usual in that type of role.69 minutes 6.50/10

I WANTED WINGS 1941 Paramount directed by Mitchell Leisen.Ray Milland William Holden Brian Donlevy Veronica Lake Constance Moore. Overlong( about 135 minutes).Done when the USA were neutral during the war.The training done by the cadets. The soldiers are in a base with no barbers..nobody sports a crew-cut...Holden has actually quite long hair and looks dishelved several times. Veronica Lake shines in her debut in a featured role, she did only bits before. Lake is great as the venal night-club singer, out of wedlock pregnancy is implied etc etc With good direction Lake was a great actress ,she did Sullivan's Travels right after this one.She is the best thing in this long dated film. Winner of the Oscar for special effects in 1941. 6.5/10

ST MARTIN'S LANE 1938 UK Directed by Tim Whelan starring Charles Laughton Vivien Leigh Rex Harrison aka Sidewalks of London picked up for release in 1940 by Paramount for a few years (probably to cash in on Vivien Leigh) Laughton co-produced and co wroteb the screenplay-uncredited though. 85 minutes Very good film about a comedian discovering a young talent. Leigh one year before GWTW is beautiful with hardly any make up ,and in black & white,There is a scene in the movie very similar of her stretching in bed in GWTW.Harrison is 3rd billed and does not do much, the 2 leads are terrific. 7.75/10

Thursday, September 9 at 1.45 pm Scaramouche 1952 Eleanor Parker day with Stewart Granger Mel Ferrer Janet Leigh.
Parker in her Technicolor best. I also liked her beauty in The Naked Jungle. One of the best swashbuckling duel ever filmed, it is worth seeing.

Sorry you are right I confused the 2 names but it was an honest mistake! Her LLC is under Harriet Brown But Garbo was similar to Harriet Craig !

Harriet Craig was the favorite alias of Greta Garbo. She used it for everything,The company the LLC representing her estate is named Harriet Craig.

Cloudburst was a fine addition to Noir Alley. Eddie pointed out a major plot hole in his outro. I particularly enjoyed the codebreaker background. Robert Preston, as usual, is a solid actor who can carry a film whenever he has a leading role. Elizabeth Sellars was terrific as Preston's wife, as smart and fascinating as she was lovely. Not the usual noir. All in all, a well-made film of the right length.
Well I watched the film last night and I liked it What caught my eyes at the end was the name of Stanley Baker. He is the next to last name in the credits as 'the milkman', One of his first film credit.I like Baker so I fast forwarded the film twice: no Baker you needed to be a code breaker to find him! I checked everybody every vehicle..nothing.So I checked with IMDB. The UK release is 92 minutes vs the 83 minutes version we saw. Big difference ..Stanley and the plot holes are in these 9 minutes.,I guess Eddie did not know himself otherwise he would have not mention the plot holes in the film.10% of the film is missing.I always watched his intros and outros like many people here even if i have previously seen the film showed,He has more time to research them and more time to present them, Well nobody is perfect and he does a great job overall. At least with him we are certain not to hear the Leonard Maltin's film book of reviews(which i like),The book is abused by the evening host during the week I.E. lack of time in the intro is also a lack of time for research.

Days of Heaven was always on the Canadian schedule as a replacement for Bugsy as another channel has the rights in Canada ...I do not know what is the problem for the American schedule.

His health was bad since 2000 and it must have been hell for him as he was a very active man.He made excellent films,Anything between 1959 up to 1977 is good.I was expecting this any month unfortunately,His pal Alain Delon also had health issues,Delon will be 86 in november but wants to do one final good film. Belmondo in the movies was impersonating LA JOIE DE VIVRE.Delon and Bardot (87 this month )are the last big stars of their era in France.

Markey must've had something, though he was nothing to look at.
I thought he was insane to have divorced Hedy...but i think she had her own problems (6 divorces)...He was supposed to be a very cultured man ,if i remem ber well Hedy adopted a boy with Markey,She was later estranged from her adopted son.Markey was a serial cheater.

I agree with Laffite's opinion. About what Eddie said about the Rita Hayworth comparaison it is true Foster looked like Rita, Hayworth's career was going nowhere then. She did not do any film for 3 or 4 years (between 54 to 57),Harry Cohn at Columbia was already grooming Kim Novak for stardom, but it is true he could have annoyed Hayworth with Foster but for what purpose? He used Foster for a movie suitable for Hayworth but she was more or less gone then. She was no longer a big star and Monroe with Niagara's build up was already the new sex symbol. I see a similarity in Foster with a young Julie Newmar as far as her face only ,I felt they have similar features maybe the eyes,my opinion.
