Well Lucille Ball's movie career does not warrant a third Star of the Month while so many do not even get one ! If i follow the logic of selecting Lucille Ball for a 3rd time .Bela Lugosi should have been selected in october a few times in the past It would make sense,His career even with many low budget movies was more important than Lucille Ball's movie career but he has never been selected. But of course we will be hammered by the next podcast(I love Lucy ?) like we are right now by Bonfire of the Vanities ,The Plot is obvious.TCM was better 5 years ago,it is downhill and i do not like the current situation at the channel.

Porgy and Bess is owned by the Gershwin Estate, they do not like the film and they will not re-released it,it seems there is no complete copy around.I do not think Hibi is racist in any way,The Dandridge tribute last year was strange and looked like a rush job,They should have put it in SUTS in August last year. There was simply not enough material,James Dean was a very good actor but he does not even have enough movies to do a SUTS. I think the Dandridge tribute was not well planned imo. I watched several and there was nothing exceptionnal in there, well not for a Star of The Month tribute.

l did not know who she was until last night i recorded it because it was rare showing. what a surprise! A great dancer and tap dancer! A beautiful woman .A quite alluring costume for 1936! I read she was strongly considered for the A Damsel in Distress film they selected the non-dancing Joan Fontaine studio politics for sure she would have been terrific with Astaire

I forgot to mention about the music,Wyler wanted to remove the soundtrack and commissonned another one,he did not like it....Peck stood by it,there was so many clashes between them .Wyler was asking so many retakes he had problems with all the actors and many refused to talk about it or him for years..Peck could and maybe should have directed the film,he was the producer on record with Anthony Productions on the copyright then.I will have to read my new hc bio on Wyler and revisit my other one titled A Talent for Trouble.

Yes Dargo ! My all time favorite western and so different... Peck and Wyler had many problems together, one of them is the lack of apparent cattle,At one point Ramon mentions10-30000 but all we see is a few ones here and there in a far away distance, the Hennessey' s cattle was visible but not on the Terrell's . Still it is my favorite, one of the few films i rewatch, again last night. This is the first film i wanted to buy the soundtrack(it was scarce) and i was not into that type of music at all ! All the cast is great, Heston as a villain is a rare treat.

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM

Saturday, August 14 at 4.00 am Tout Va Bien 1972 (non tout ne va pas bien dans ce film...) Yves Montand Jane Fonda if an experimental political social movie by Jean Luc Godard interest you...otherwise a major must miss.Godard got the financing for this 'work' because he got Montand and Fonda interested in it.Fonda's career was going nowhere during this period (for several years till Julia and Fun with Dick & Jane.)I lost a lot a precious time watching Godard's films and i still have some to see i guess i'am a masochist... Godard is really overrated imo -
I am gonna record Arch of Triumph as there a longer version i do not remember when it was reissued but i have seen the 'old version pretty sure TCM will show the newer one.

I have seen American Gangster upon release,I did not like it at all, A big gangster organization with no visible staff, it was very bad, Ness with no colleages.I like Washington early roles,i.e Carbon Copy and several others-early ones.He is having the De Niro syndrome for several years. American Gangster is the last film i have seen by him and lost all interest in his career.

Hey Hibi here is one for you :Marion Davies's 'Beach House' build by Hearst, for her pleasure on Santa Monica Beach. Some of it still exist there..110 rooms AND 55 BATHS,She was surely hiding the booze in most of them... Originally developed during the Gold Coast era of the 1920s by William Randolph Hearst for actress Marion Davies. The Davies estate featured a mansion of 100-plus rooms and an ornate marble swimming pool. As with many Hearst projects, the vision of architect Julia Morgan provided a cohesive grace to the rambling estate. The Beach House was a hot spot on Santa Monica's Gold Coast, with Hearst and Davies entertaining luminaries from the Hollywood set, such as Charlie Chaplin, Louis B. Mayer, Samuel Goldwyn, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable and other stars of the day. In 1947, Joseph Drown purchased the property from Davies and converted into Oceanhouse, "America's Most Beautiful Hotel," along with the Sand & Sea Club, a limited-membership beach club. After the Oceanhouse venture ended, the main mansion was demolished in 1956

She has other properties: a house in New Orleans,a farmhouse in the south of France,a flat in London. She bought the properties with Taylor Hackford.

Not conventionally beautiful, Miss Francis was a handsome woman who knew how to dress and accessorize.I watched'Give me your Heart' today (my 49th Kay Francis film!)and she looks fantastic in the white gown in the film. I have found a photo giving it justice,Brent was also very good in the film,on the original poster Brent has no mustache while he has one in the film! She was a great glamour queen and very tall you can throw a hat and it would stick anywhere with her...

SEVEN ANGRY MEN 1955 directed by Charles Marquis Warren released by Allied Artists (formerly Monogram) Raymond Masset Debra Pager Jeffrey Hunter,Good historical drama on the life of John Brown and his many sons.Paget and Hunter were borrowed from Fox. Massey also played John Brown in the 1941 Warner Bros. picture Santa Fe Trail it would make a good double bill. Good film 7/10

I thought the same thing but Hayward was higher up in the cast.

Young and Willing 1943 Directed by Edward H Griffith William Holden Susan Hayward-in early leading roles.83minutes A Paramount production one of the Paramount productions that was sold to United Artists in the early-40's when U.A. was having trouble meeting their exhibitor contracts because of lack of product, mainly due to their loss of production in England. Screwball comedy has its moments but is forgettable Florence MacMichael has a support role-she had a talent for voices but she is irritating -she talks like a chipmunk (for real) and her part is quite important... 6/10 Good tv print by Motion Pictures on TV Cie,sold to tv.
