  1. He was gracious to her,he had a better opinion of her when the movie was finished. He said she was a Professional Amateur !
  2. Hibi i just received the books in the last week i was inquiring about the George Brent one if you have read it let me know what you think of it?
  3. Check the PBS stations in your area several of them are showing the new remastered version, it is like 20 hours total but worth every minute of it,a classic as great as The Civil War.
  4. The owner Charles Comiskey was a very mean and greedy man,the White Sox were the Black Sox before the scandal.Comiskey decided to charge the players for the cleaning of their uniforms, the players decided to play with a dirty uniforms for a long time earning the knickname Black Sox , Comiskey finally conceded but screwed the players by charging them back the fees and deducting from their earnings bonus of the World Series of 1917.Severalplayers did not asked for their bribe money in advance, i have seen the film many years ago.Y ou should watch the Baseball documentary by Ken Burns.
  5. I made a big order of hard cover books for my collection and for the next 2 months-i guess-.I bought bios on Barbara Lamarr Mae Murray John Gilbert(i have Dark Star already),directors Thomas Ince, William Wyler a more recent one,Clarence Brown, the Vitagraph film studio and...George Brent , hey Hibi do you have this one ? I have read all the Agatha Christie's many years ago and everything by Conan Doyle,I do not have the time for fiction i prefer bios and movie books,in another life i will read McFarland's baseball books, they also publish the best movie books in the world.

  7. Actress Renée Dorléac aka René Simonot dies at 109 on july 11th.She was the mother of Catherine Deneuve and Francoise Dorléac (died in 1967). https://www.google.cawww.midilibre.frrenee-dorleac-mere-de-catherine-deneuve-est-morte-a-lage-de-109-ans-
  8. Bette Davis suffered so much in her early days,no wonder she dished dirt on everybody when she was on top. At Universal Pictures, she was dismissed , for lack of sex appeal. “I can’t imagine any guy giving her a tumble,” pronounced Carl (“Junior”) Laemmle, 23-year-old Hollywood producer. MichaelCurtiz said she was sexless..-when producer Darryl F. Zanuck urged Michael Curtiz to cast Bette Davis as Madge Norwood, the director responded, "Are you kidding? Who would want to go to bed with her?"[1] Angry that he was forced to use her against his will, Curtiz fumed throughout the shoot, loudly deriding her as "a goddamned lousy actress" or calling her a "God-da$ned-nothing-no-good-sexless-s4n-of-a-b$tch! And this was in an early Fox movie...in 1932 !
  9. I have seen Body Heat first run and it is a great film.Ted Danson has an early support role which for me was memorable as a prosecutor having dancing lessons.I always remembered him for the role and for his 'I will just breath the air'' line. As for Live and Die in LA it is excellent as well more conventionnal, first time i have seen Dafoe i think ,the whole cast is good,a movie not to miss and with a great film score.
  10. Friday, July 16/17 12am midnight To Live and Die in L.A. 1985 William Friedkin directs, seen it first run and many times over the years ,great cast, good action and a fantastic film score by Wang Chung. The fake bills in the movie were also very good. Friedkin mentionned the crew and himself used some of them in L.A then. The fed changed the bills in 1986 because of the ones done for the film that's what Friedkin said!
  11. It is a great western with a superb score by Jerome Moross, One of the problems between Wyler and Peck was the obvious absence of large cattle numbers, you will see some in the long shots but that's it, Wyler did not want to hire the beef extras i guess .Supposed to be 30000 heads there
  12. Yes i agree on the principle you mentionned, but Hollywood stars are not mass killers,i think dignity and respect are important But Trump,Idi Amin, Hitler etc deserves what they get...
  13. Well some things are better left unsaid if not true like Bette davis said "You should never say bad things about the dead, only good… Joan Crawford is dead. Good.” As for Quinn well i do not believe he bedded Barbara Stanwyck...among other women
  14. I do not mind the gossip,i have more than 1500 Hollywood books ! But dead people cannot reply and bragging falsehoods (like Quinn) do not gel with me. Flynn did a great bio with almost no names (you do not need to name a person a description would be enough eye brows and shoulder pads would reveal it )and many others did the same .Douglas should have written more about Nathalie Wood i guess and less about Ann Sothern.
  15. Gable had a breath problem because of his false teeth -in the early 30,s it was not the same.Kirk Douglas 'badmouthed' Crawford in his first bio, at least he said she had a firm and trim body...,i,am sure he enjoyed it,Crawford liked to congratulate and invite newcomers for dinner at her house......I usually like Douglas but he reminds me of Anthony Quinn (who i despise) with his kiss and tell,Flynn never said a word about anybody(almost) and he had a longer cv than the last two..Douglas had a small single line for Natalie Wood in his bio by the way. Crawford was a fantastic lover and this was a known fact in Hollywood, Guys were waiting in line to get an invitation and she was a beautiful woman.
  16. Tanganyika 1954 Universal directed by André De Toth with Van Heflin Ruth Roman Howard Duff, Average adventure, safari yarn set in East Africa, actually Universal backlot. 6.5 /10
  17. I have seen 17 films by De Palma on first run all the time, he is a good pastiche director like the painter Elmyr in Orson Welles 's movie F for Fake. But i will avoid one film of his. A friend of mine a very good critic at the Montreal Gazette titled his review then :Mission Incomprehensible. And I'am not crazy about Mr Cruise either...
  18. A friend of mine went to the premiere of My Best Friend's Wedding many years ago, he kept saying Rupert Everett was a great actor because his character was gay and British...
  19. Terrific is the right word, seen it first run, best performance by Travolta until Primary Colors.
  20. I watched the movie many years ago as I am a completist on Hackman.I was dismayed with a scene with a big boom microphone in a hotel room or something.I could not believe it. i guess the print for tv was not framed well ,it could happen i heard.Whoever did this made a big mistake and it is distracting,i will watch it again to see if the print is now corrected.
  21. Same thing, I saw it first run at an industry premiere, lucky i was -i did not pay for this turkey ,a terrible film and i remember Melanie Griffith on a talkshow-maybe Carson's-to plug it saying how proud she was of it .... you mentionned Willis , by the way he got $5 million up front for the first Die Hard then,an unheard amount at the time, every A list actor went to the barricades -they were getting $2-3million at the most then i.e Redford,De Niro,Hoffman Beatty et al.Inflation in the film industry started there.Do not forget Willis never had a movie hit before signing for Die Hard.
  22. Louis B Mayer was a very strong man,he was short but working in scrap metal builds a body, several actors were ko'd by him,for saying nasty replies to him.So i doubt very much Haines said a 4 letter word to Mayer...
  23. I have seen Bound on its first release,'intense' is the right word,Tilly is incredibly sexy, the sensuality is all over in film, I have seen it only once but i surely will watch again.
