  1. This movie was supposed to play in july during the summer film noir series i do not know what happened. The Hidden Room aka Obsession 1949 directed by Edward Dmytryk with Robert Newton Sally Gray Stanley Baker has a uncredited role as a cop. It is a very good film , Newton and Gray are very good, the ending is quite surprising, Story is about the husband's revenge on the lover of his wife. 7.5/10. According to movie collector and it was listed somewhere else before 12:45 PM Obsession (1949) july 6 Dir: Edward Dmytryk Actors: Robert Newton,Phil Brown,Naunton Wayne Runtime: 96 mins .. Genre: Crime .. Rating: TV-14 .. CC: Y

  4. Duvall suffers serious mental problems now unfortunately,She retired about 20 years ago,The filming of the Shining did not help her at all mentally the filming of the famous scene with the axe 127 takes took over 3 weeks, imagine that. She stayed in character for more than a month,it was a horrible experience for her,Kubrick uses women basically as props. She was with Paul Simon for more than 2 years she introduced her friend Carrie Fisher to him... true to form he dumped Duvall at the airport on her way to start the filming of the Shining i never liked Simon anyway. She now lives in Blanco Texas pop 1800,50 miles west of Austin in a supposed to be 'rundown ranch'.She barely survives with small royalties and social security apparently. You would not recognize her now i can guarantee it...

  6. I saw them twice in 1975-76 in MontreaI.I liked them then but after it is a different story for me.
  7. I agree and they plugged the title song 3 times during the film....
  8. He was the legal widower of Jean Seberg -separated but not divorced when she died. He remarried A few years later with Anna Karina till her own death in 2019
  9. Charlie Watts circa 1969-1972
  10. No . O'keefe was not a song and dance man he did everything else.Dana did several musicals in the mid-late 40's but not many, he was doing Noirf ilms at the same time.Nobody ever made such a drastic change as Dick Powell ,who turned to be a good director and an important tv producer.
  11. It is quite amazing the amount of screen time Elvis gets on TCM.Well you can start your month with Kissin' Cousins the Sam Katzman cheapie, the first true rotten Presley movie.I recommend the ending where you clearly see Elvis and his 'twin' in the hay, Katzman and Parker were so cheap they did not even bother for an optical correction. Colonel Tom Parker insisted on keeping the budget of all Elvis movies to a minimum, and a $750 optical was required to achieve the effect, the two cousins Presley plays are only seen together in the same shot once. Presley and his double appear in the immediately prior long-shot where they somersault into the hay .Incredibly bad movie and for all the masochists down here i strongly recommend 'Tickle Me' the bottom of the barrel worthy of the Eddy Murphy's jokes,,terrible...
  12. There is only one ; The Hot Spot from 1990 directed by Dennis Hopper with Virginia Madsen she gives good performance and is stunning in her best role. Also with a great cast,Reminded me of Body Heat same textured film, you feel it..I saw it first run but it bombed.Johnson had made too many turkeys by then. The music score is very good,he story is in Texas so the heat is everywhere,a very steamy film,Eddie Mueller should book this for NoirAlley as a Neo Noir,an excellent film.
  13. RE Crawford shoulder padds and Michael Curtiz here is the story: When Jack Warner, producer and the then head of Warner Bros. suggested Crawford for the lead role in Mildred Pierce, director Michael Curtiz reportedly exploded: “She comes over here with her high-hat airs and her go**amn shoulder pads…why should I waste my time directing a has-been?”. He forced Crawford to take a screen-test, surely a humiliating experience for an actress who had enjoyed two decades at MGM.
  14. Actually the padded shoulders was a problem for Michael Curtiz as he was against her casting for Mildred Pierce complaining iam paraphrasing 'she will be coming with her padded shoulders'
  15. It is very good i bought it then i think there was a backlash or a ban on it in the USA,a documentary was broadcast in Canada then but was not shown in the USA because of the content,it was around 1985-1988,the best book on her last days. imo
  16. Hi IMDB moved these info several years ago to have access you must register (and pay i suppose) at IMDBPRO,i was not very happy about that, now i must go at boxscore mojo to get some info.
  17. I likeJames Whale a lot, it is a great pre-code & good acting from Morgan, and all of the cast It would never be made in any era after 1934 i guess.
  18. From imdb:Welles is wearing make-up throughout the film. For hours every night, they'd add pounds and pounds onto him, and use prosthetics for his face. He once said that he was late going to a dinner party at his house during the filming, and arrived with his make-up still on. A famous actress approached him when he entered and in all seriousness said: "Orson! You look wonderful!"
  19. And Sean Connery..Baker worked again with Endfield for Zulu,,Baker was the producer of this excellent movie.
  20. The Thief 1952 directed by Russell Rouse with Ray Milland At long last i finally watched this film :a Cold War -Film Noir movie . Highly unusual for the time-even now- not a single word of dialogue a great thriller with Milland at the top of his game.I wanted to see this film since i was a teenager my father saw it as a teenager himself and mentionned this film as one of the best by Milland and a very special one.The sultry Rita Gam makes her very sexy film debut, she had a Golden Globe nomination as most promising newcomer and what a great figure... The important musical score got an Academy Award nominationThe film would fit in Noir Alley and on a SUTS day for Milland well he had one ONE in 2017 compared to others...I do not remember if he was ever a Star of The Month.I have never seen this film on TCM and it is very hard to find.7.5/10
  21. Chief Crazy Horse 1955 Universal directed by George Sherman Victor Mature Ray Danton Suzan Ball David Janssen has a small role.Mature is very good probably his best acting in the 50's. This film is from the Sioux's side which was uncommon of course the main leads are white actors in make-up as it was the custom then, Cinematography is beautiful in superb Technicolor Cinemascope ,Informative but a bit slow. The female lead Suzan Ball( related to Lucy) died when the film was released she died of cancer at only 21,her leg got amputated and she made the film anyway using body doubles and various tricks a sad story.. 7/10
  22. The great Fred C Dobbs did a fantastic essay on The Big Sleep titled the Big Sleep resolved or something like that if LawrenceA is reading this I'am sure he can track it down and put the link on this thread, by the way i miss you Larry...
  23. The Unseen 1945 Paramount directed by Lewis Allen screenplay by Raymond Chandler with Joel McCrea Gail Russell Herbert Marshall Phyllis Brooks. A mystery-film noir movie .Lewis Allen first full length film was the very good The Uninvited done the year before with Russell and Ray Milland in the lead. The Unseen is a disappointment for me.Could have been better it had a great cast. After this movie Joel McCrea concentrated on westerns only for the rest of his career except for Roughshod in the 50's. 6.5/10
  24. Becky Sharp 1935 directed by Rouben Mamoulian With Miriam Hopkins Frances Dee Nigel Bruce Billie Burke Cedric Hardwicke Alan Mowbray.Made by Pioneer Pictures distributed by RKO.Set in early 1800's England during the Napoleonic wars good comedy drama main feature are the beautiful pastels as it is the first film made in 3 strip Technicolor. Frances Dee in Technicolor is quite something but Alan Mowbray as a romantic interest is quite unusual i have seen him in many films but not in this type of role..anyway I have never seen this film on TCM and it was not featured on her Star of the Month tribute There must be a rights problem , I watched it in Canada yesterday. 6/10
