  1. I have all the bios on Errol including his 2 novels, the first printing of Wicked Ways is worth looking for as he had to withdraw passages in it about Jack Warner and others for the next editions.I have read on Olivia and her sister as well. Errol was a gentleman,he never kiss and tell-unlike Cooper- but Michael Caine in his bio book revealed more about the De Havilland- Flynn : it was more serious than everybody said, including Olivia who denied it.She told him a detail I cannot elaborate here, but after she could not tested for the Virgin Queen part that went to Bette Davisis the way I can explain it..I see no reason for Caine to lie and it did not help to sell more books as it was not reported at all at the time.
  2. Un Mauvais Fils 1980 aka the Bad Son by the excellent Claude Sautet with Patrick Dewaere Brigitte Fossey Yves Robert. After 5 years in a USA jail, a son returns home and must face the hostility of his father.Very good drama 8/10
  3. i think John Mills was honored 5-6 years ago, not certain,Jack Hawkins would be good, but no Ben Hur please ! Veronica Lake would be nice but long shot, she was mostly with Paramount and many of her movies never made on dvd
  4. I MARRIED A WITCH 1942 René Clair,it played 10 days ago on TCM,I had seen it many many years ago so it was new! Funny story! i like Veronica Lake a lot,i think she was talented,i like her voice too.Susan Hayward in an early role is excellent as the abrasive fiancée of Fredric March. March was 46 when the movie was made .In my opinion he looked too old for the part and was odious with Lake on the set.She lived in Montreal in the 60's,7 years ago I was identifying a lady on the phone when I asked her her mother's name she said Veronica Lake.It is not reported she had a child in the 50's or 60's but it is possible.I believed the lady -she was surprised when I told her I was very familiar but I digress,it is an excellent film by René Clair with very good special effects for the period. 8/10

  7. STORM IN A TEACUP 1937 by Victor Saville.Good comedy set in Scotland with Rex Harrison Vivien Leigh & a good supporting cast including Arthur Wontner-who made 4 or 5 movies as Sherlock Holmes-a good one-before Rathbone-story involves a reporter, a dog & an ambitious politician, I do not know if this film was ever shown on TCM. 7/10

  10. The Essentials has been too long,we even had the Essentials JR a few years ago for the summer I think,if they want to inform the new subscribers and reach to the classic film veterans they should show documentaries presented by M Haskell,Jeanine Basinger,Scott Heyman etcthere is many, many good documentaries available. enough for a first season or 2 as a try out. Anything but the essentials please.

  16. On Manpower Dietrich was starting an affair with Raft,Robinson wanted Marlene as well, she was also involved with Jean Gabin there was also a rumour about a woman as well,Dietrich was always 'very busy'.Jealousy was heavy and during filming Walsh had to stop Raft who kept beating Robinson after Raoul Walsh cut the action
