  1. Musicone, I am lucky enough to have one of the smartest computer repairman and nerds in the business. He repairs software for companies and individuals all day long, and sometimes into the night and on weekends too. I called him and told him the problem I was having, and he said, "Well, let me move over to my XP machine and see what is going on." I found out that whenever a major new operating system goes on line, he buys a new computer to run it but he keeps his older computers that still run older systems, since most of his repair customers still use the older systems. He still has one computer running Windows 98, and he keeps that working for some of his customers. So, he said he was not having the same problem with XP that I was having, so we set up an appoint for him to come out here to the high desert where I live, and go over my system. It took 2 1/4 hours but he got it to working ok. He added some new RAM chips and changed some things around inside my software, and he set me up to use Firefox and three new anti-virus programs. And now my machine is like new, it runs fast, and it operates with this new message board as if I have a whole new computer. Oh, and PS: He also took the side off my tower and cleaned out the desert dirt and dust, some old dead bugs, and some spider webs. Since I generally keep my computer room cool, the bugs and spiders like to live inside my warm tower.

  3. Ahh, Samoset. I knew him well. We thought it odd that the first native of the New World that we met in the wilderness spoke English.
  4. That looks like one of the last scenes in the Fox TV-show version of LAURA.
  5. Very interesting headline. I wonder what all would have been different today?
  6. We would have a lot fewer interesting films if these headlines had been published: --------------------------------------- Berlin August 5, 1939: “HITLER DIES OF HEART ATTACK” --------------------------------------- “Honolulu Dec 7, 1941: “EXTRA!!” JAPANESE ATTACK QUICKLY REPELLED BY ALERT US MILITARY DEFENSE” ---------------------------------------- San Francisco, April 18, 1906: “SAN FRANCISCO SHAKEN BY MILD EARTHQUAKE” ----------------------------------------- Nottingham Monthly, June 1435: “ROBIN HOOD DEAD IN FALL FROM TREE” ------------------------------------------ London Times, August 1938: “WIFE KILLER DE WINTER SENTENCED TO HANG” ----------------------------------------- Lincoln County Gazette, May 1877: “18 YEAR OLD WILLIAM BONNEY ACCIDENTLY KILLS SELF WHILE CLEANING SHOTGUN"
  7. Yes, I guess so. Hey, wouldn't the missing husband or wife send a telegram home right away, from the nearest foreign city, saying, "I'M ALIVE! I'VE BEEN FOUND! I WILL BE HOME THURSDAY!
  8. Not at the momement. Thanks. I'll let you know if something else comes up. Have you managed to get your cable re-connected?
  9. I like both films, but both tend to drag a little in places and stretch out the farce a little too long. It would have been very simple for the husband or wife to have simply told the new husband/wife in very simple terms, early on...."An amazing thing has happened..... it turns out that my wife/husband is not dead after all. They are still alive, and they have come home. They are here right now, and I don't know what to do about it." But then, I guess, we would have no film at all.
  10. I agree that those early 3-strip Technicolor shorts had really great color. Very vivid.
  11. I think it was a good idea for TCM to show these two films back to back.
  12. I think MY FAVORITE WIFE was funnier, and it had a better script. Also, there were two women and two men, which added to all the complications.
  13. LOL, I'll pass on this one. Let someone else DIG UP the title.
  14. Years ago I read in The Valley News, in the San Fernando Valley, that the 1936 MGM movie, SAN FRANCISCO, used different directors for different types of sequences. The reporter interviewed someone who had worked on that film. He said that all the scenes of the camping in the park, after the Earthquake, were directed by D.W. Griffith. A few of the wide scenes are really epic, with actors and tents going way off into the distance. Griffith is listed as a 2nd Unit Director on the film.
  15. Arent't there about 4 or 5 versions of this film and theme? I think I saw one from the mid or early 30s. Then there's one from the 50s or 60s. And the short MM version. Always in My Heart (1942) Walter Huston Daughters Courageous (1939) Claude Rains Tomorrow Is Forever is a 1946 Orson Welles
  16. Hi, When I come back to this thread, after not reading it for a while..... up at the top right of this page, just to the left of REPLY TO THIS TOPIC, I see: Go to first unread post I click on that and it takes me to the first unread post in this thread. That means the first post I haven't already read.
  17. It is obviously a list of words collected by the company that makes and sells the software for the message board, and the people who buy the software or rent it are probably free to remove words from the list. We might give them time to do that. I think they've been very busy as it is. And I think they've done a very good job so far. The switch-over has been rather rapid and mostly trouble-free. In the meantime, on the 8th of this month, Microsoft started messing up XP, in an attempt to get rid of it, and that has caused me far more problems. I had to hire a technician to come out and over-ride some bad stuff Microsoft had done. He also added some extra chips to my RAM, doubling it up to about 1 Gig. As a result of that, this board now loads ultra fast and each page or forum I click on also loads very fast. I think it is possible that some problems that some people have been having, is more due to the XP problems that is purposly caused by Microsoft, trying to get us to buy a new computer and move up to Microsoft 8.1 and IE 11.
  18. I just checked and there are/were 14 active members on line. That's good for a Friday. I think this new board has all the different forums easy to find and to get to, so I think our members will be spread around a lot. Go to the top left of this page and click on the first TCM MESSAGE BOARDS, then go there and all the way down to the bottom of the page, and that will tell you everyone who is on the board now. I think we will gradually gain back many new members and some old ones too. PS, NOTE: What I did was look this keyword term up on Google: WARNING POINTS and I read about how it is used on other message boards. I don't know how it will be used here or if it will be used.
  19. Look, just go to MY SETTINGS, and type in 999,999 Posts in the box titled MEMBER TITLE. That will show up above your Avitar and everyone will think you went over 100,000 and now have 100,017 posts.
  20. I'm still finding new stuff that this board will do. It's easy to use and has lots of gadgets and spectial functions. I love the YouTube embed, the direct link to a photo URL, and the access to photos inside our computer files. Have you found any new feature that you like? Fred
  21. I wonder if these people want to see each forum in a "TREE" format. I think that's what it was called a few years ago with the first post at the top of the page, and each subsequent post staggered to the right a little, then the next was a little more to the right. Sort of like a family tree chart? Anyway, I love the new board, and the only problem I had was re-registering, which took only a couple of hours, and then everything was ok. I'm still searching around for different kinds of functions. This board is really good. I see the mods are working on a "Warning" function, of the semi-automated type. I found info on that on the website of the company that makes this kind of forum format. I've used another board like that, and its a good idea. It helps avoid a lot of needless arguments and is useful in calming people down. Thanks again for all your help.
  22. Swithin, I've decided that this is a good film, although a little strange. I'll watch it again the next time TCM airs it. Thanks for the tip. Your tip is what caused me to finally watch it. Here is TRAIL OF THE LONESOME PINE, which you linked to the YouTube thread earlier. I haven't seen this one yet:
