  1. I just got off the phone with Dish. I canceled my service since all I really enjoyed watching was TCM. I won't sign up with Direct TV since there is no way to know if this would also happen with them.

Why don't you stay with us, since there are old films available on YouTube and other places on the internet, and this feud with Dish will eventually be over.

We can still discuss old movies.

How do I stop or discontinue automatic bill payment?

Contact billers directly to cancel or discontinue any scheduled Automatic Bill Payment. Some billers require advance notice to discontinue automatic payments, so allow additional time for any changes to your payment service. You may also contact your Visa card issuer to ensure that automatic payments to your biller are stopped in the future.

  3.  What happens if you've already paid by credit card? I've had my bill automatically taken out for years. I would venture to say that most people pay that way.

Call your credit card company and ask them if there is anything you or they can do for you. They might be able to stop the automatic payments for you, since you are no longer getting what you have been paying for.

  4. This is a long term situation. Nothing anyone can do overnight.

Call and email Dish and tell them that you were thinking of subscribing to Dish, but because of this and because of increasing cable and sat fees, you have decided to cut the cable and go only with on-line internet downloads and services like Netflix for movies, news, other video and audio, etc.

Tell them you are a member of a group, club, association, etc. dedicated to boycotting cable and satellite services because of the absurd increasing fees and the junk that the companies pad their channels with, such as all the worthless channels such as the sales and infomercial channels.

  5. Dish provides the satellite, I believe it's an equipment rental fee like any other cable company. Though I think at some point, you're given the option to buy the equipment outright.

"Buying the equipment" is a basic part of your monthly fee. As much as $5 or more dollars a month pays for the equipment until you own it..... however, you continue to pay the same fees long after you've paid for it.

I learned in the electronic magazine business years ago, that a $300 electronic item (retail price) is purchased by a company (a store or retail company) for half that or even less. So, now it is a $150 item. Half of that goes to the distributor and the company whose manufacturing name is on the equipment (middle-men). So now it is a $75 item. Half of that goes to wholesalers and factories that make the equipment, and half of that, $37.50 is the factory sales price for the item, and the factory has to pay half of that, $18.75, which is the factory's cost to manufacture the equipment, which is often made in 3rd world countries by starving children, slaves, and political prisoners.

So, you are paying $300 for an item that cost $18.75 to make, and you CONTINUE to pay your fee until long after you've already paid enough to own it. So you might wind up paying $600 for an item that cost $18.75 to manufacture.

That's why it is more profitible to be a Capitalist than a Consumer. :)

  6. Ok, for the umpteenth time.  Someone, some great soul, I forget who, went to the considerable trouble of cataloguing how many films from what decade were shown on TCM over time, and found that there had be no change in the makeup of the schedule, with the exception of the inclusion of newer movies as time passed.

  7. I think not. Osborne said drawing from other catalogs. when was the last time tcm drew anything from the K. Gordon Murray mexican import "catalog"? not recently I can tell you that. when was the last time tcm aired El Vampiro starring German Robles which was released before Hammer's Dracula in 1958. Have Osborne and tcm programmers even heard of Chubasco-Azteca Studios? ain't my idea of drawing from other catalogs. No sir, it is not. :)

    Dicen que soy comunista

    1951 Directed by Alejandro Galindo

    Synopsis

A worker overwhelmed by the economic crisis and the cost of living is accidentally propaganda of a political party, apparently from left, who convinces him to join their ranks and defending the working class. After entering through a ritual as mysterious as typical, you will realize demagoguery and arrangements existing between union leaders to maintain the status quo unchanged and profit from mafia practices.

  8. I wanted to bring this thread forward...to see what others thought about Anne Baxter's film work...

My favorite performance of hers is in THE RAZOR’S EDGE.

I wonder how many people realize that the acting she did while in the Paris hash house was her best, because she was playing a girl who was high on hash, and alcohol, and depressed too.

The brief conversation between her friends in their car, after talking to her there, brought up the subject of “or worse”, meaning she was both drunk AND maybe high on some drug too. I didn’t catch this significance of the brief dialogue reference until after several viewings of this film.

Wiki's review of the original book says it was opium, but I say it was hash. :)

  9. When I first signed up for TCM, back in ’94 or ’95, I had to take a small package from a local cable company, but it cost only about $4-$5 extra, and my whole cable bill was about $19 a month. I think AMC was not an extra charge and came with basic cable.

Then I moved and about 14 years ago I signed up for Directv and I had to pay about $10 extra for TCM in a package that also included Fox Movie Channel, Sundance, Independent Movie Channel, and a couple of other odd channels that showed some movies. The total monthly bill was about $24.

A few years ago Directv removed the Fox Movie Channel from my package, then later required me to upgrade my tuner, then gave me Fox again with the new tuner and an increase in fee. I’m now paying $79 a month. Somewhere along the way I lost Sundance and the Independent Movie Channel.

I think different cable and satellite companies have different packages, and some people have old packages they signed up for years ago while new subscribers get new packages. So I think it is not a simple matter of just a few standard packages.

  10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heel_%28professional_wrestling%29

In professional wrestling, a heel (also known as a rudo in lucha libre) is a wrestler who is villainous or a "bad guy", who is booked (scripted) by the promotion to be in the position of being an antagonist.[1][2][3]

They are typically opposed by their polar opposites, faces, who are heroic or "good guy" characters. In order to gain heat (boos), heels are often portrayed as behaving in an immoral manner, breaking rules or otherwise taking advantage of their opponents outside the bounds of the rules of the match. Others do not (or rarely) break rules but instead exhibit unlikeable, appalling and deliberately offensive and demoralizing personality traits. No matter the type of heel, the most important job is that of the antagonist role. Heels exist to provide a foil to the face wrestlers. If a given heel is cheered over the face, a promoter may opt to turn that heel to face, or to make the wrestler do something even more despicable to encourage heel heat.

The term "heel" is most likely derived from a slang usage of the word that first appeared around 1914, meaning "contemptible person."[citation needed] Common heel behavior includes cheating to win (e.g., using the ropes for leverage while pinning or attacking with foreign objects while the referee is looking away), employing dirty tactics like blatant chokes or raking the eyes, attacking other wrestlers backstage, interfering with other wrestlers' matches, insulting the fans (referred to as "cheap heat"), and acting in a haughty or superior manner.[4]

Occasionally, faces who have recently turned from being heels will still exhibit characteristics from their heel persona. [5] This occurs due to fans being entertained by a wrestler despite (or because of) their 'heel' persona, often due to the performer's charisma or charm in playing the role. Certain wrestlers such as Ric Flair and Eddie Guerrero gained popularity as faces by using tactics that would typically be associated with heels, while others like Stone Cold Steve Austin and CM Punk displayed 'heelish' behavior through most of their careers yet got huge face reactions, leading them to be marketed as anti-heroes.

On other occasions, wrestlers who are positioned as faces receive a negative audience reaction despite their portrayal as heroes. The term 'heel' does not describe a typical set of attributes or audience reaction, but simply a wrestler's presentation and booking as an antagonist.

  11. too much of this film is confusing..... three characters discussed all through the film aren't even in the film.

Why is there no fence up on the hill where women have jumped off and another girl almost jumped off twice?

With all those ghosts, why doesn't anyone just call the police?

  12. I think there were some major hints in the flim related to that.   The relationship was similar to the one in Rebecca but even stronger since the one in Rebecca was one-side.     A simple hint was calling the deceased women 'my darling' but the one that really made the point was about when they were young and were going to conquer the world together etc...    To me it was also implied that the marriage to Stella's grandfather was a loveless (no sex),  marriage.    This is why he had sex with Carmen instead of his wife and why Carmen got pregnant instead of his wife.

    yes, yes, and yes. :)
