  1. >Eh I dunno if I did this quote thing properly....gee I thought this would be more intuitive! Use a right arrow (just to the left of your question mark on your keyboard) to put a quote in a box. Use two right arrows to make a double box, three for triple, etc.
  2. >>No, they would be boring trash just like modern movies are today. The code was abolished years ago, and what we've got today is the result. >Eh I dunno if I did this quote thing properly....gee I thought this would be more intuitive! > >Anyways I kinda disagree. I don't think it'd nearly go that far. I think that some of the more adult and interesting themes that we saw in movies in the 40s would've been explored with more depth and handled with tact unlike a lot of filmmakers today. ----------------------- (I tried to format the quote) I don't think so. The "adult theme" movies of the '40s were severely restricted by the code. Just watch the 1931 version of "The Maltese Falcon" to see what I mean. What made many "classic" movies "classic" after the code was the code forcing the studios to put more thought into their films, rather than making them all about prostitutes. Did Gretta Garbo ever star in a pre-code film in which she was not a prostitute or a w****? I don't think so. When TV began to take away movie audiences, and TV had a strict code, Hollywood decided to break the old movie code and put more sex back into movies to attract people away from TV. This trend continued. After "Bullitt" they decided to put car chases and wrecks in more movies. Now they've got more blood and guts, and sex, and vice, and cussin' than ever before. That's why I haven't seen but 3 movies in theaters during the past 10 years.
  3. >They would be very much like European films: honest, frank and adult. No, they would be boring trash just like modern movies are today. The code was abolished years ago, and what we've got today is the result.
  4. Ok, my test worked. First go here: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_links.asp Then scroll down a little to this paragraph: "The Anchor Tag and the Href Attribute" And use the "a href" code that is in the little box.
  5. This got me to thinking: "what if there wasn't such a restrictive censor board in place how would movies have turned out?" ====================== I tried to respond to you but this board is screwed up, and I give up. I just signed onto the IMDB message boards. Adios amigo. Message was edited by: FredCDobbs
  6. Recommended Configuration: 500 Mhz processor 256 MB of RAM 100 MB of free disk space Microsoft Windows XP http://browser.netscape.com/sysreqs/
  7. That might work for you metz, but there is a problem with that. I don't have Netscape on my computer and I don't want to download it. The more new programs we download, the more our RAM is used up and the slower our computers run. I use IE for every other message board and NONE of them are slow. The TCM message board has been slow during the 1 1/2 years I've been on it, and it just got much slower last week, so the problem is NOT with IE, it's with the TCM message board program.
  8. Copy what you want to quote, then when your blank "message" box opens, type a right arrow on your keyboard (that's the key just left of your question mark), paste the quote to the right of the arrow, and that should put your quote in a white box. Sometimes you have to use a right arrow at the start of each line of the quote. Posting a link still seems to be automatic. Just copy the url address to the link and post it, and it should appear as a hotlink when your message finally posts. Like this: >This is a quote. The right arrow is invisible when the message is posted. And this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064030/
  9. "ages ago" for me might be 1948. For a young person it might be 1992. So it would be helpful if you would give the approximate year you saw the film. Is this it? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064030/

  11. I think she overdid her lipstick when she got older. She put it on way beyond the limit of her real lips.
  12. How about "The Illustrated Man"? I thought that was an interesting Sci-Fi movie.
  13. Good observations. I think its a sign of a really good movie when people discuss the characters as if they were real people.
  14. >Now I'm puzzling over whether there are any genuine changes in the characters in Treasure. I think that's what makes it a great movie. We all wonder if all the guys were really like that originally, or like that only when placed under extreme stress. And it makes some of us wonder if we might be like that if placed under stress. Remember that all three men were willing to kill Cody, when the "piles of gold" got large enough. That's what Howard had originally warned about back at the Oso Negro flophouse. Even kindly Howard and Curtin were willing to murder Cody.
  15. I loved his Spanish movies!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNRAkD7uH8s
  16. I watch these films every time they show up on TCM. Boggie is just wonderful in both of them. I wish he had made more films like this. He wasted his time on his early low-budget gangster films.
  17. >Sugarpuss, > >I feel so old reading that sentence. I watched The Monkees in their original network run. Dang! I'm so old, I remember when there were no Monkees!
  18. >What is with the Ignore member? If you click on "ignore member" then all of his/her posts turn up as blank boxes with no text in them, on your computer only.
  19. Yo! Jarhfive! I thought I was all alone here! Glad to see you. This place is deserted today. There are tumbleweeds blowing across the landscape. I went to the TCM Message Board Center in Atlanta with my video camera, and this is what I saw in the parking lot.....
  20. If you stop talking about yourself, your personal troubles, and your constant whining, that might help. Try talking about movies for a change. We have newcomers on here every day who NEVER whine like you do constantly.
  21. >I just only took a glance over to see how the Fonda thread was doing to see the moderator in >action which he haven't done so in a while and was just seeing how people were rating her films >but could only find a handfull of members asking back and forth questions talking oly about her >movies You've said that 50 times already. Why do you keep repeating it? If you don't like that thread THEN DON'T LOOK AT IT.

  23. Why yes, my friend, that film is "Kind Hearts and Coronets". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041546/
  24. You are absolutely right. Nobody is going to ignore someone out of shear curiosity. I thought the ?ignore? feature would make the person?s name and posts totally disappear from the board.
