I use zippered CD pouches I buy at Wal-Mart for about $9. They are like a zippered school paper folder but not as wide. They will hold 48 and a thicker one will hold 72. These can be put in bookshelves or file cabinets. I use a marker pen to write the titles on the top of each disk.

Yes, the ending was a very good idea. The movie was upsetting in many ways, and I didn't know how it would end. It was an unusual ending and I liked it. But I think I dated that girl after she grew up.

Hmm, this sounds like yet another movie based on the story of General Edwin A. Walker. He was in charge of the US toops in Germany in the late '50s or early '60s, but rumors were going around that he might start a war with Russia, so Kennedy took him out of Europe and moved him to Texas, where he resigned and became an anti-government speaker for the John Birch Society.

I try to keep in mind that movies are an art form and with art, anyone is free to like or dislike whatever they want.
I think Marx Brothers movies are stupid, silly, inane, and that's why I love them.

Tonight on TCM "The Bad Seed" is on. This film has an interesting theme of asking the old question, "Can criminal activity be genetically inherited?"

For years I saw only small parts of Sayonara and it didn't look like a film I would like, but I finally got to see it all the way through and I found it to be delightful. I usually watch it whenever it's on the air.

A good way to try to help put an end to this and any kind of commercial abuse is to write the commercial sponsors and complain about it. The addresses of some of the companies are on the internet or on the packages of products we buy. Address the letter to the CEO of the company even if you don?t know the person?s name. Tell them you won?t buy their product and you will mute the sound on all their commercials.
Back in the 1980s the FCC dropped its restrictions on the number of commercials that could be shown per hour. It used to be restricted to just a few minutes, something like 6 minutes per each half-hour. That would allow for about 1 minute at the beginning of a program, 1 1/2 minutes 1/3 of the way into the show, 1 1/2 minutes 2/3 of the way in, and 2 minutes at the end of the show. But now there is no limit. If you watch re-runs of some old shows from the ?50s and ?60s, such as the Twilight Zone program, you might notice that the shows are edited and part of them are removed (from 1 to 2 minutes) so the networks can get in more commercials than the shows were originally designed for.
This situation is getting worse, especially with half-hour ?info-mercials? that are all commercial and no program. Those of us who pay for cable or satellite are stuck with some networks like National Geographic airing nothing but commercials overnight, starting at about 1 am and going until about 6 am. So on these channels at those times, we are paying to see only commercials.
Letters to the commercial companies saying that we are boycotting their products and not watching their commercials might help reduce their numbers. The commercial companies have other advertising options, such as magazines, newspapers, radio, direct mail, and even NASCAR. I?ve read that some companies figure they get more for their advertising dollars by sponsoring NASCAR race cars than advertising on TV.
I used to work for TV stations, in the news department, but I would often hear that local sponsors (stores, car dealers, etc) would call up and complain to the general manager every time they got a letter from a TV viewer complaining about their commercials or too many commercials during a program or about the vulgarity of the program they were sponsoring. The sponsors would always threaten to switch their advertising over to the local newspaper if the TV station didn?t pay attention to the wishes of the viewers. One common consumer complaint was too many commercials during news programs. For example, I started to notice several years ago that so many of the news shows (like the Today program) started airing so many commercials, there were more commercials than program. On some news shows (especially morning shows), a station or a network will sometimes run one news story then take a break for two or three commercials, then they will go back to the news anchor for one more news story, then they break for two or three more commercials.

It seems to me to be done in a style that was popular in the late '50s. Every now and the the theaters would show a Christmas promo like this, either for upcoming Christmas movies or for the advertisements shown in-between the movies. Whoever makes TCM promos always does a good job.

Thanks, Jack, I had forgotten about that. Since the second version gets too sad too fast, I haven't seen it in years. I can watch about 45 minutes of the first version and that's about all. These are just about the two saddest movies I've ever seen.

The modern Scarface was roughly based on the 1932 Scarface movie theme, that's why the stuff about the guy and his sister and his bad English, but it wasn't as good.
I watched Basic Instinct twice, trying to figure out some of the absurd plot. I think Double Indemnity is much better. I'm watching it now..... "I couldn't hear the sound of my own footsteps.... it was the walk of a dead man." "I didn't know that murder can sometimes smell like honeysuckle." The re-make of this, Body Heat, wasn't too bad, but the re-make of Body Heat, which was China Moon, wasn't very good. Basic Instinct was a composite of a lot of plots of old classic movies, but with more vulgarity.

I used to listen to this stuff on the radio when I was a kid, back before television. I could just imagine pictures going with the radio shows, especially when the shows were made about movies I had seen in the theater.
These radio shows went on into the 1950s and gradually stopped when television became popular. One good thing about the radio shows was that we could hear them over our car radio while on long trips.
