Best Endings & Beginnings in film history?
Rudy's Girl replied to spence's topic in General Discussions
Harry Potter fans such as myself always shed a tear watching this end scene from The Chamber of Secrets. It's Hollywood magic (no pun intended). -
I know it's already been mentioned, but it has to be Tootsie for me. Next: Your favorite Hollywood gangster
-
I would have to say The Curious Case of Benjamin Button because I just watched it for the first time. Nope. Next: Your favorite science fiction movie about time travel
-
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Next: A movie that scares you to death
-
I've always had a thing for Paul Michael Glaser of Starsky and Hutch. He makes my heart go pitter-patter. Next: Your favorite villain that you want to win
-
I feel the same about the movie, but the soundtrack is beautiful. It's original, yet classical in sound. I believe Francis Lai beat Jerry Goldsmith that year. Patton could have won, but in this case it was a fair win.

Love this movie! I actually bought this movie out of a Critics' Choice Video catalog.

Nick of Time (1995) would have to be one. It's an early Johnny Depp film, before he got weird. A really intense thriller.

Actor-producer-author Kirk Douglas (1916-2020)
Rudy's Girl replied to jakeem's topic in General Discussions
As soon as I heard Kirk Douglas passed away, oddly, the first thing I thought of was Olivia de Havilland. I think they were the same age. Someone really needs to do something special for her while she's still with us. She's royalty. Some of my favorite Kirk Douglas movies are Ace in the Hole, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, The War Wagon. God bless him. I guess the classic Hollywood that we know and love is just about gone now. Except in this forum, of course. -
Thanks, I really enjoyed this. Never heard of this movie before.

NAME A SCREEN CHARACTER YOU'D LOVE TO PITCHFORK
Rudy's Girl replied to TomJH's topic in General Discussions
I know I've mentioned this one before. I refuse to watch True Grit because of this character. Rooster Cogburn (1975) is good enough for me. "HATE! PITCH THE FORK!!!" -
Has anyone ever seen True Believer starring James Woods and Robert Downey, Jr.? It's an entertaining movie. It became a little fantastic towards the end, but an exciting watch for an evening. James Woods plays a rather unusual defense attorney, and Robert Downey, Jr. his assistant, and they are going up against the DA to defend a man who has already been convicted of murder. I've seen quite a few courtroom dramas before and this one isn't much different, with the exception of James Woods. His dynamic performance steals the show and makes the movie really stand out. Actually, the point I wanted to make was I thought it was so cool that those two actors were in this movie together. Three years later Woods would have a cameo appearance in Chaplin. In a courtroom scene, he plays the attorney prosecuting Charlie Chaplin played by Robert Downey, Jr.

I just watched Patton, one of my favorite war movies. The soundtrack is as awesome as George C. Scott. I love the heroic sound of the music, and the echoing trumpets. When Patton reminisces of battles long ago you hear the distant trumpets. This movie won many Oscars. Would it have killed the academy to give it one more for Best Music Score? Speaking of patriotism, here's another epic soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith.

Best Fight Scenes in Movie History
Rudy's Girl replied to Rudy's Girl's topic in General Discussions
Here is a funny fight for a change. -
I saw this for the first time not too long ago. I like exciting movies like this. As I was watching, about midway through, I was like, "Hey, this soundtrack is pretty good," not realizing who did it.

Jerry Goldsmith is my all-time favorite film composer. He deserved more credit than The Omen, which was creative and made the film really creepy, but I think his other works deserved an Oscar more than that one. Capricorn One is just one of those.

First Movie SONG That Comes to Mind
Rudy's Girl replied to LonesomePolecat's topic in Games and Trivia
Ginny Simms singing "I'd Like To Set You To Music" from Hit the Ice. Next: Love song sung by Fred Astaire -
How about this for a game? Think of a different actor/actress that could have played a certain part. Someone names a movie and an actor in that movie, and the next person comes up with a completely different actor that could have played the part. For example... Breakfast at Tiffany's - Audrey Hepburn Answer: Grace Kelly Supporting characters are okay, too. Such as... Breakfast at Tiffany's - Patricia Neal Answer: Jessie Royce Landis I'll start. The French Connection - Gene Hackman

It just so happens that I watched Cool Hand Luke last night. The soundtrack isn't one I would buy, but it was just right for the movie. I also watched the original Overboard. It may be a simple romantic comedy, but the music by Alan Silvestri is great in my opinion. It makes the movie bigger than it is, much like Back to the Future. The music is very beautiful and even tear-jerking at times with orchestra and then switches to a kind of bluegrass with banjos. And I love the end song by Randy Newman, enough that I bought it off of iTunes.

I haven't been a member for that long, but I have noticed there are some here that take movies way too seriously. I enjoy movies and have fun with them. When you start picking them apart with every minute detail then it's no longer entertaining or enjoyable. Sometimes this forum can get a little heated, π which is just silly. Just keeping doing what you're doing and have fun.

Oh, don't do that! Not too long ago I posted a topic called 'Top 3 Favorite Film Composers', but I just talked about those three guys. There are so many others that I would love to talk about. I actually prefer this thread to some of the others because it doesn't have to deal only in "favorites" or "the best." It's all a matter of opinion anyway. This forum is for people like us who love movies to discuss movies and what we love about them. Period. I have family and friends that are into film, but not to the extent that I am, so I come here. π I like this thread and I say keep it going!!! Anyway... They showed The Magnificent Seven last night. An incredible score by Elmer Bernstein! It makes me want to ride a horse really fast over rolling green pastures.

Allhallowsday, you are awesome. I saw the word 'soundtrack' and got really excited. In my circle there is really only one person that I know who is into soundtracks. I could go on and on on this topic. π Here's a romantic one since Valentine's Day is around the corner. Does anyone like the love theme from The Lost Weekend by Miklos Rozsa?
