  1. Isn't this My Six Loves with Debbie Reynolds and Cliff Robertson? CharlieT
  2. I loved The Day the Earth Froze and The Magic Sword. The earlier episodes with Joel were the best, IMO. CharlieT
  3. Suddenly (1954) SH - Sterling Hayden FS - Frank Sinatra JG - James Gleason NG - Nancy Gates CharlieT
  4. "I don't get it. The bar had no roof? Wierd. " Ahhh. Youth and innocence. You are truly LuckyDan! Charlie(old dude)T
  5. The first movie I can remember seeing in a theater was Lady and the Tramp. As far as movies on TV, the first one that I can actually remember, and the effect it had on me, was the original King Kong. Very scary for one so young! :0 CharlieT
  6. "That being said i was wondering about the scene involving the daughter's wedding where apparently if you ask for it it shall be done. Is this based on fact? Is this a tradition carried out when the higher mob bosses married off their children? Does the book explain why the people were granted favors? " I remember this scene, and one of the characters(either Tom Hagen or Michael Corleone) explains to Kay (Diane Keaton) about the tradition that the Don refuses no request on the day of his daughter's wedding. The book, as far as I can remember, does not give any explanation beyond this. Of course, it's been at least 30 years since I read the book, so my memory may be a little suspect. And, as you can see, by the undertaker's example, the granting of the request may come with strings attached. For me, anything Lucca Brazzi wants, Lucca Brazzi gets. CharlieT
  7. I visited Florida with a friend about 35 years ago, and his grandmother (who was a "Georgia Cracker") made a comment about us "scooterpoopin' around." We weren't sure what that entailed... so we went to a topless bar. CharlieT
  8. I meant Solaris. It just seemed looooooong. Charlie(Yawn)T
  9. Point taken. The Day the Earth Froze (aka Sampo) was Finnish, wasn't it. No hot movie that! Charlie(Brrrr)T
  10. I've sat through some of the recent 2+ hours films that I was begging for an intermission by the time the ending came. Part of getting old, I guess. Not quite ready for Cialis. I know when I watched Titanic, I couldn't wait for the boat to sink. I think it took less time to go down in real life than in the James Cameron flick. Charlie(Depends would be nice)T
  11. I'll keep my eyes open for it. Although, watching for fun what one does day in and day out can sometimes be just a little depressing. At least I don't make cars. But I can guarantee your clothes will be nice and dry. Charlie(pass the Downey)T
  12. Love it, but boy, is it long! Almost as long as GWTW. Saw it a local theater the first time, then saw some of it through a fogged up windshield at the local drive-in. No, I wasn't alone and thanks for asking! Had to get her home before curfew, so didn't get to see most of the second half. I guess I really enjoy what has become for me an all-star cast. When I first saw it, I only recognized the big names, but watching the classics on TCM has given me a whole new groups of familiar faces to find while watching. I always try to watch the annual broadcast, but usually pop in the DVD at least once over the course of the year. Charlie(not the Deliverer)T
  13. Wrong. The ideal version would have starred Ingrid Bergman and... me! Charlie(Line, please!)T
  14. I don't know if there is any movie that depicts my profession exactly. Working in a factory is not exactly considered glamorous. I suppose Gung Ho with Michael Keaton, Norma Rae with Sally Field or Swing Shift with Goldie Hawn might be as close a you could get. Assembly line production is SOOOOOOOOO sexy, don't you think? Of course, I've been there so long, I've got a cushy inspection job. Thirty-eight years come August, and I'm still only on the second rung of the corporate ladder (and ulcer-free, I might add.) Charlie(tote that barge, lift that bale)T
  15. I can't log on at work. They don't allow us peons internet access. We just slog away at putting in various readings and measurements. And of course, pass around funny e-mails. My on-line time increased when I got my laptop. I don't have to fight for the "family computer" with my wife who likes to play games and my daughter who has "tons of homework!" I usually try to come to the TCM message boards at least once a day. I generally start on the Trivia forum, fail miserably at answering the posers there, and then go to General Discussions, checking just the threads that look interesting, followed by the same on Your Favorites, Information Please, and Hot Topics. Most of the time I'll take a quick peek at one or two of the other forums, but my regular routine is going back and forth to keep the red dots away. I don't post very often for the amount of time I'm logged on, but I enjoy many of the posters and their comments... but not all. I rarely take anyone to task for his or her attitude or opinions, even if I think that they're all wet. That's their right and if I don't like it, I can choose not to read their posts anymore. My philosophy is "if you want to be a jerk, then knock yourself out!" Don't bother me none. I like things light and humorous. Funny, huh? Charlie(verbose)T
  16. Just so you won't get bored and have a little laugh: Clint Eastwood? CharlieT
  17. OK, I'll try the obvious and get it out of the way for all of the experts. Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity? CharlieT
  18. If I may, Cinemascope. It stands for Rolling On Floor Laughing My A** Off. People Will Talk is one of my favorite Grant movies, too. I was surprised it took so long for anyone to mention it here. With The Bishop's Wife and Arsenic and Old Lace, they are my triumvirate of Grant favorites. Actually, it's hard to stop at those three... I enjoy all of his films. Of course, that's partly my wife's fault. CharlieT
  19. Marlon Brando in Guys and Dolls? CharlieT
  20. Thanks, duffy. I had to leave and didn't want to leave the thread in limbo. CharlieT
  21. Exactamundo, vallo. Play away!
  22. I've got to take off for a little while, so I'll post one before confirmation. CG GR CC MM CharlieT
