  1. Mr. Obvious - part deux. My Favorite Wife?
  2. OK, I'll be Mr. Obvious. Sunset Boulevard?
  3. James Gleason and Gene Lockhart... and on the distaff side, Mary Wickes and Thelma Ritter. CharlieT
  4. Hey, Larry. If you get the chance, tell Ralph I said "Hi." CharlieT
  5. Gosh, inglis. Give him a chance. You haven't even told him he's right yet. That won't happen until 9:22 PM EDT. Besides, he's got to go through his research books. Charlie T
  6. I would choose Bing, but my wife would be screaming at Elvis. Sinatra's great, but too jazzy for my liking. Nobody could sing "Christmas" the way Crosby did. CharlieT
  7. Ding-ding-ding-ding!!! We have a winner! Congratulations, wordmaster. Next one's on you. CharlieT
  8. Nope. Clue - the state is not adjacent to Pennsylvania.
  9. 'Fraid not. Clue - east of the Mississippi.
  10. Cary Grant to Loretta Young in The Bishop's Wife - "I'm at my most serious when I'm joking." CharlieT
  11. Is Thornton's character a slob, or has a miserable attitude, or foul mouthed, or violent, or a combination of slimy "attributes"? Yes.
  12. Here's an easy one for beginners. In The Quiet Man, little Michael O'Flynn (Barry Fitzgerald) tells Mary Katherine Danaher (Maureen O'Hara) that Sean Thornton (John Wayne) hails from Pittsburgh, but not Pennsylvania. What state does he put Pittsburgh in? CharlieT
  13. The reminiscing of children's TV fare in New York came for me at a sad time. One of my favorites coming out of Columbus, OH. recently passed away. His name was Bob Marvin and the character he played was "Flippo, the Clown" on the CBS affiliate. He had a morning show and a Saturday morning show in the 50's and later into the 70's had an afternoon show. He showed cartoons and shorter movies like Tarzan and Jungle Jim with Johnny Weismuller. One of the video clips shown on the news during the announcement of his passing included a guest visit by Captain Kangaroo. The ABC affiliate had an after-school program starring a puppet named Casper, the Camel. He had a live partner named Chuck Newsome and they played cartoons. The puppeteer and voice for Casper was a man from the Dayton, OH. area named Sky Lucy. Between these and The Mickey Mouse Club and Howdy Doody, my entertainment life was complete. If there are any members (or lurkers) here that remember Flippo, Channel 10 is airing a half-hour tribute to Mr. Marvin this Saturday night, 6-17, at 7:30 PM. CharlieT
  14. That Barbara Ann line sounds like it would have been said by Wolfman Jack in American Graffiti. CharlieT
  15. My two favorites are "Pride of the Yankees" with Gary Cooper and "The Glenn Miller Story" with Jimmy Stewart. I love both the actors and both stories have the type of ending that you don't really get in standard fiction. Everything doesn't end up with "they lived happily ever after." I know that neither is totally acurate historically, but they allow one the chance to escape the way any good film does. CharlieT
  16. No and... you are absolutely right, MrWriteLA. Hard to believe I got that far, ain't it? Take her away, MrWLA. CharlieT
  17. Going to bed. One more clue to chew on overnight. Clue #9- "Marvelous."
  18. Happy birthday! With a name like inglis, I would have expected you to ask for a new washer and dryer. Congratulations on finally being able to vote. Is the age of majority 21 in the Great White North like it is here in the lower 48? *wink, wink* CharlieT
  19. gwtwbooklover, I think the movie you're referring to is "The Last Starfighter." It was made in 1984 and starred Lance Guest. It also featured Dan O'Herlihy as the "turtle" commander and featured Robert Preston in his last on-screen role. CharlieT
  20. There is a thread on the General Problems Forum that gives instructions for changing your screen name. I don't know if they work. I'm happy with the one I've got. CharlieT
