DEATH IN VENICE (1971) was on TCM yesterday late afternoon. I watched it again; it's gorgeous even when it shows ugly. I love LUCHINO VISCONTI movies but the whole time I was looking at it, I was reminded how boring audiences must have found the film when it was new. It is truly an actor's piece, and DIRK BOGARDE is wonderful. AIR FORCE (1943) was on late last night; super cast! Propaganda maximized!

No, it was PRETENDERS Learning To Crawl tour, 1984, I think SIMPLE MINDS' big hit came the next year.
-
Without doubt, PAUL's best album. I'd guess you'd noticed that JAMES COBURN and CHRISTOPHER LEE are on the cover. "Bluebird" is on a summer mix I listen to, so I hear that most often.

I saw SIMPLE MINDS open for PRETENDERS in 1984. That was a great show.

The first show included routine performing of the album Graceland. The 2nd show was much more recent and a dreadfully hot night ... with lots of booze! Freebies on the premises from my friend who worked there me and my other friend had bought tickets for the show but retreated from the venue because of the oppressive heat. The show again was uninspired, but it was so damned hot, to be fair, I don't blame PAUL.

If I remember right, Still Crazy After All These Years was well received. I never paid much attention to Grammy awards. "Mother And Child Reunion" was on this album (also great):

PAUL SIMON did at least two great albums in the '70s, There Goes Rhymin' Simon being one of them. I saw him twice, 1st in the '80s and 15 or so years ago. Memorably bad shows.

Sure... she married JOHN LENNON. I like a lot of "weird" artists and "unique" talents - I have several of CAPTAIN BEEFHEART on CD and vinyl...! Hell, I have THE SHAGGS, FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS, SILVER APPLES... yet, jeepers creepers I never could get into ... her. Listening to: Ravel- Works for Orchestra (Complete) Vol. 1

Back in the day, I only owned 4 or 5 vinyl albums of LENNON, and knowing this album now, I am so very glad I did not spend money on it. Plus, I must confess, ...Yoko : Oh no!

THE PRETENDERS Learning to Crawl Review I had written years ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R31ORSL4X062CD?ref=pf_ov_at_pdctrvw_srp

Not planning to review it?

I love that whole album, but that is my least favorite. Probably the subject.

^ Now for LEAST favorite...

I owned it on vinyl. I will say that the cover was way cool... when I was 11. I remember there was a message in braille on the back cover. I did like PAUL's albums back in the day, and RRS does have lovely melodies. It is not very good though.

You obviously understand my opinion. Great remarks. I will reassert: GOJIRA is stunning. Much better than its successors and it itself should be; crafted by real talent.

PRETENDERS - thinking of masterpiece... Here's what I wrote about 14 years ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/RAF9HC0MY2WAQ?ref=pf_ov_at_pdctrvw_srp

The original is a giant monster movie. With all plausibility therefore on hold, the Japanese original without the chopped salad treatment of the USA version, is the best of all Kaiju.
-
LENNON did dislike "Run For Your Life", also my least favorite on probably my favorite BEATLES album.
-
Cool. Never heard of it.
-
I watched some of COFFY (1972) on TCM last night. I love that movie. It's good... and bad.
-
The original GOJIRA (1954) is stunning. Any other film or the USA cut of the original are inferior.
-
Perhaps JOHN was talking to PAUL, perhaps JOHN was talking to YOKO. Perhaps he was talking to himself. LENNON was great at self exposure, and was sometimes contrite.
