Was that before they hit? Or just after? I saw the Pretenders open or The Who at American Airlines Center in 2006. They were still impressive.
No, it was PRETENDERS Learning To Crawl tour, 1984, I think SIMPLE MINDS' big hit came the next year.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney And Wings -Dec 1973
A great album, best so far for Paul.
Without doubt, PAUL's best album. I'd guess you'd noticed that JAMES COBURN and CHRISTOPHER LEE are on the cover. "Bluebird" is on a summer mix I listen to, so I hear that most often.

When my granddaughter was a toddler she used to sit in my lap as I watched videos on the PC. She would sit transfixed on this one and demand replays.
I saw SIMPLE MINDS open for PRETENDERS in 1984. That was a great show.

Why were they bad?
The first show included routine performing of the album Graceland. The 2nd show was much more recent and a dreadfully hot night ... with lots of booze! Freebies on the premises from my friend who worked there me and my other friend had bought tickets for the show but retreated from the venue because of the oppressive heat. The show again was uninspired, but it was so damned hot, to be fair, I don't blame PAUL.

Was the other the one with "Mother and Child Reunion" on it? I got a little clock radio as a gift one year and I kept that thing buzzing. That song was in heavy rotation. Then he made his famous acceptance speech at the Grammys where he thanked Stevie Wonder for ... not releasing an album that year. That one?
If I remember right, Still Crazy After All These Years was well received. I never paid much attention to Grammy awards.
"Mother And Child Reunion" was on this album (also great):

I've really been liking Paul Simon lately. The first time I heard "Kodachrome" was in the movie Coneheads. I would rewind the tape just to hear the song again.
PAUL SIMON did at least two great albums in the '70s, There Goes Rhymin' Simon being one of them. I saw him twice, 1st in the '80s and 15 or so years ago. Memorably bad shows.

I can't think of anything she's done that is the least bit impressive.
Sure... she married JOHN LENNON. I like a lot of "weird" artists and "unique" talents - I have several of CAPTAIN BEEFHEART on CD and vinyl...! Hell, I have THE SHAGGS, FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS, SILVER APPLES... yet, jeepers creepers I never could get into ... her.

Some Time In New York City by John Lennon & Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band with Elephant's Memory-Jun 1972
John follows his two greatest albums with his worst one. He cowrote and sometimes duets with Yoko on some songs. Yoko wrote and sings some alone but they are not worth mentioning. The first of their cowriting songs is "Woman Is The N***er Of The World" about chauvinism, which is OK. Several others are "Attica State", Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Angela" about current radical causes they were into, the song are not very good. The best of them is "The Luck Of The Irish" with John singing well and a nice folk ballad melody, unfortunately Yoko also sings on it. Two songs are by Lennon alone-the best is "New York City" with John doing what he does best- old time Chuck Berry style rock n roll. The other "John Sinclair" is another trite political song.
Making things even worse is another disc of live jam sessions from 1969 and 1971. John does a long version of his solo single "Cold Turkey" which is OK. Yoko shrieks and squeals for 15 minutes on "Don't Worry Kyoko". The best thing on the live record is John singing an old blues song "Well, Baby Please Don't Go", though Yoko is heard squealing on this too. The rest is some boring jams with Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention.
Back in the day, I only owned 4 or 5 vinyl albums of LENNON, and knowing this album now, I am so very glad I did not spend money on it. Plus, I must confess, ...Yoko : Oh no!

I love "Oh Yoko", the record company pushed for it to be a single, but Lennon thought it was too "pop".
I love that whole album, but that is my least favorite. Probably the subject.

Red Rose Speedway by Paul McCartney And Wings-Apr 1973
I owned it on vinyl. I will say that the cover was way cool... when I was 11. I remember there was a message in braille on the back cover. I did like PAUL's albums back in the day, and RRS does have lovely melodies. It is not very good though.

Another movie, like Frankenstein (1931), that is a victim of its own success.
You obviously understand my opinion. Great remarks. I will reassert: GOJIRA is stunning. Much better than its successors and it itself should be; crafted by real talent.

PRETENDERS - thinking of masterpiece...

Here's what I wrote about 14 years ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/RAF9HC0MY2WAQ?ref=pf_ov_at_pdctrvw_srp

The original is a giant monster movie. With all plausibility therefore on hold, the Japanese original without the chopped salad treatment of the USA version, is the best of all Kaiju.

LENNON did dislike "Run For Your Life", also my least favorite on probably my favorite BEATLES album.

I watched some of COFFY (1972) on TCM last night. I love that movie. It's good... and bad.

The original GOJIRA (1954) is stunning. Any other film or the USA cut of the original are inferior.

"Jealous Guy" as Lennon being tender: Ok, I can see that. My understanding is the song was John's way of saying sorry for having written Run For Your Life.
Perhaps JOHN was talking to PAUL, perhaps JOHN was talking to YOKO. Perhaps he was talking to himself. LENNON was great at self exposure, and was sometimes contrite.

DEATH IN VENICE (1971) was on TCM yesterday late afternoon. I watched it again; it's gorgeous even when it shows ugly. I love LUCHINO VISCONTI movies but the whole time I was looking at it, I was reminded how boring audiences must have found the film when it was new. It is truly an actor's piece, and DIRK BOGARDE is wonderful.
AIR FORCE (1943) was on late last night; super cast! Propaganda maximized!
