  1. If I worked at Universal, and wanted to keep my job, I probably wouldn't push too hard for DVD releases of unfamiliar old movies (safer to do the rah-rah for yet another release of "American Pie"). Managers and supervisors don't enjoy being confronted with underlings who know something they don't. I doubt if many of us fans would last long at these studios. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  2. A Clara Bow DVD box featuring her Paramount talkies would be a welcome thing --- two of them, "Kick-In" and "Her Wedding Night" have been preserved, but have gone more or less unseen for many years --- http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  3. "The Bad and The Beautiful" --- an inspired finish to a great picture, http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  4. I suspect "The Big Parade" will become a lot of people's favorite whenever Warners gets that DVD out. I've heard they're using a recently rediscovered camera negative for source material. That should look incredible. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  5. I think Dick Powell would have benn great in the Fred MacMurray "Double Indemnity" role --- and imagine Ronald Colman as "Lawrence Of Arabia"! http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  6. Betty Grable was clearly the bigger star during the forties. In fact, she may be the biggest female box-office name of all time, in terms of boxoffice. Was there anyone bigger? http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  7. The ones with Shearer, Crawford, and Harlow are very good, in that a number of them are pre-code. The forthcoming Gable DVD box set does include one of the best Gable/Crawfords, "Dancing Lady", for which they supposidly found the original nitrate negative. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  8. These two DVD releases, plus the TCM broadcasts of their films, should revive interest in Laurel and Hardy to some degree, at least. It would be nice if TCM would lease all of their Hal Roach output from Hallmark and run their shorts on a regular basis between features. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  9. Among "B" western stars, one who seemed to have been universally disliked was Allen "Rocky" Lane, though in later years, he was said to have contacted many of his old co-workers to apologize for his previous bad behavior. Josef Von Sternberg was another one people couldn't stand, but I don't think Jo ever got around to apologizing to anyone ... http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  10. Norma Shearer is the subject of today's "Monday Glamour Starter" at Greenbriar Picture Shows, with commentary and some rare images --- at the link below --- http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  11. What a pity that MGM/UA cancelled that DVD release of the British Hitchcocks, including "Young and Innocent", last year. Now that Sony has taken over, it's not likely we'll have these anytime soon ... http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  12. Wonder if that special edition of "The Maltese Falcon" will be available in DVD-HD --- http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  13. "Cuban Rebel Girls" was briefly available on video some years beck, then quickly withdrawn when a rights question came up. I think Barry Mahon's estate intervened at that time. He was the producer-director. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  14. Very much looking forward to "Gentleman Jim", which is said to be in the works for eventual DVD release. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  15. His Kind Of Woman Cry Danger! The Thing Sabrina Desperate Journey Strangers On A Train Brides Of Dracula http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  16. Hal Wallis --- he covered so much ground in the industry --- made so many great films, and worked with so many great personalities and in multiple genres. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  17. He's very funny in "The Great Profile" --- even in the midst of personal decline, he could still deliver the goods. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  18. There's a lot of info about Athole in the Howard Hawks bio, as he was married to her during the thirties. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  19. Isn't there more lost footage from "City For Conquest" other than the opening sequence? Seems I'd read that Frank Craven's character continues to show up throughout the movie. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  20. With so many happy personal memories associated with viewings of "Casablanca" over the years, it just has to be the greatest screenplay ever written! http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  21. The most essential films are the ones that made the strongest impression on us as we were growing up --- at least that's the case for me. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  22. If only they would program the Vitaphones. What a glorious month that would be! http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  23. Judging by his overall knowledge of movies, I suspect Robert Osborne writes most of those introductions himself. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  24. He and Peter Lorre were a great combination in their Warner vehicles. All of those are gems. http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
  25. I wonder if any footage survives from those weeks Tracy spent on "Tribute To A Bad Man" before he was replaced with James Cagney --- http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/
